Title: How much money do you take to an auction?
Post by: MovieMan on December 02, 2012, 09:19:26 AM
Fess up. How much do you take?

Depending on the venue I will take as much as $5K, but usually it's $3K.

How do you carry it?  In a pocket, in a bag? In a money-clip?

No less than $1,000, no more than $2,000. Used to be more but the crowds and costs have come down quite a bit here in the last year, so don't need as much. Average good locker is about $400 currently.

I just do (did? havent gone in a while) small lockers, and with limited space at home i wont get more than 1or 2, so not very much.  Usually just $500-$1000.

There has been a few that I've only taken $500 and then it turns out there was many small lookers up.
I just ask if its cash only.  Always have debit card on me.   But it's never come to that.

The neighborhood, parking situation and amount of cash determines personal defense items carried.

One facility no longer allows firearms on the premises.  In reality they can't enforce it.  All they can do is ask you to leave and if you don't its trespassing.    But it's in a nice area, you pull in and they lock gate when auction begins and they have security on site.  Not armed security but by the looks of these guys I'm thinking they have guns close by.  lol

I've gone to an auction with as little as $200 (and bought a unit).  The most I've ever taken was $2k.  Normally it's $400-$600 "auction money" with another $300 in reserve.  This doesn't include any "regular money" that I may have in my normal wallet.  I carry two - one with my auction / buying money and the other with my normal cash, CC, license, etc.
