Storage Heroes, like the new post you put up lol. Did some more reading, enjoying your blog. I like the angle you took with the letters, kind of an interesting take on things aside from the normal here's what I found or storage auction tips.

I'll have to start paying closer attention to paperwork, letters, etc, normally pretty much all paper I find immediately goes in the trash without a second look.

If your intersted in doing some guest blogging shoot me a pm I've been slacking on keeping up with my storage auction blog and I been finding yours very amusing. I, been tied up with another blog and a site I'm in the process of setting up to sell copper bullion. I'll give you some backlinks and you can have a free plug for your blog if your interested.

Keep on blogging enjoying reading it

Well to be honest with you, I was not going to read it. I really dont like reading blogs to much. However I did enjoy the 4 articles I have thus far. Really good work! Rewarding, educational for the lot of noobs that come and think that it is just piles of gold or whatever they are thinking will be in their "JackPot" unit. Everything written very nicely. Hope you do more photos and articles on a complete dig through.

Cheers!

Thanks, y'all!   I try not to get too into mechanics of writing and just focus more on telling a story (like I would in chat or e-mail) about the things we find.  I'm glad you're enjoying it!  I will definitely take a guest blog or too at some point, so I will definitely hit you up for that... that would be amazing!

As far as the letters, we are writing a book called "Letters from Storage Lockers" that should be published pretty soon!   It's a compilation of a lot of the letters we find.  We try to return personals & letters when we can, but the facilities sometimes just tell us to throw them away and that's when we save them for the book.    I will definitely be posting back here when it is published!

Thanks so much for the feedback... please keep it coming!

Hey y'all!  Found out good news yesterday... I won a contest sponsored by Storage Treasures and I get to have a one-on-one 30 minute phone conversation with Dan Dotson.  Please post a comment on my blog if you think of a good question for me to ask!

How about:

If you could go back in time, knowing what shows like yours did to the industry, would you do anything different?

or:

How can you enjoy that new Maserati while all of your regulars can't afford to buy a unit?

I like to thank you for one of your recent blog post. The one about you talking with DD, or will be soon anyway. Great website, looks like I dont have to spend $60 every six months or $100 for a year no more for my subscription. Looks like they have those ones as well as more.

Naw I got it, I pretty much still compile them myself, just didnt worry about all the small towns around me mostly because I didnt want to spend that much time researching where all those storages were at and getting phone numbers. Well this site has that done for me now. So now I just add them to my call list.

Sad though, most facilities in my area dont use them. But cant blame them, I dont think I would want to pay 200 a year for it, when there are places to post for free.

The only thing I am really liking about the site at the moment is that they have all the storage facilities addresses and phone numbers. I doubt they will ever have a  majority of the auction listings because of how much they charge. But at least a pre compiled list of all the facilities are already there at mouse click.

I love this blog - is one of the ones I frequent every day to see if there has been an update.

@storagetreasure.com -- I've been on that site even before I found this place.  Have a total of 1 auction listed for my area out of 6 that I know of the first week of sept.  Listings for my area is so/so.

As for San Antonio - I could see 1500 locations in and around the area.  With the large military presence, home base for a number of large companies, etc. there are a ton of people and thus need.  If it's like Atlanta then you have to do a search for not just Atlanta but all the small towns, counties, etc. that make up the larger area known as Atlanta.

For large metros like Chicago, Atlanta, NYC, DC, Dallas, etc. I could see finding and paying for a service.  If you do this as a hobby you spend the money to save time.  If your doing auctions as a living then I'd use my time to save me the money.

Well doing a google map search with a 50 mile radius in San Antonio brings up around 739 listings. However some of those are double posted (which is stupid, and have no idea why they are double posted) as well as a good few of them are not self storage facilities. But other businesses that will tie into in some direct or indirect way.

But I may be impressed and opt for your service if I see value into it. As it stands, currently I only drive in a 20 mile radius around my house, then on occasions make plans to go out of town to 3 other units. So even my personal call list is rather short, about 50 - 100 facilities I call, since I dont use that subscription service no more that I use to use. For me paying them $60 for 6 months or $100 for a year, and to many other bidders are using them, kind of defeats the purpose financially.

we just got a facebook page though (FINALLY) so we'll try to run everything through there from now on.  http://www.facebook.com/storageheroes

Still enjoying reading posts here though, too!
As far as traveling to auctions, I'm not opposed, but I've never had to go more than 15-20 miles away.  I know that isn't normal.  How far do you guys travel on a daily basis?
