Title: Beware of climate controlled units.
Post by: chelboo on July 04, 2015, 09:43:17 PM
Bought 2 climate control units in the same building a few months ago. Both were loaded with not only good items but also BEDBUGS.
We have been fighting them ever since.
All of the items are locked in storage containers now but we made the mistake of bringing in a few bags to rummage through.
We have purchased everything that we can find locally and on the internet but it is still a battle.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Rat, roach & cricket infestations...yes. Bed bugs, thankfully no. It could be worse...you could have picked up a drug resistant, flesh eating bacteria.

i steam any beds/cushioned furniture as soon as I get them.  Shooting the cushion with Hot steam should kill anything thats living in it.  I got the idea from a TV show where someone had bedbugs and they stuck all of their furniture in a giant kiln to kill everything on it.

This is why it's so important to pick through items in a place not inside your own home. In the backyard or at the self storage facility itself is a good idea. It helps you get rid of clutter yourself and Lord knows how messy out own homes can get while we're waiting for buyers...

They make mattress and pillow covers that are anti-microbial. The better ones claim to be bed bug, lice, mite and water resistant. I have one on my mattress and my daughters mattress. They're a little pricey, but worth the investment if you have little ones.

For starters they're cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Often they'll have insulated walls instead of sheetrock with one coat of taping compound on them.

Most climate controlled units are indoors, but I've had to clean out some indoor units that were saunas. Most of the units you can drive up to are non-climate controlled.
