Title: Bought my first unit today
Post by: AnnieMae on December 28, 2012, 06:35:47 PM
Hey guys,

I bought my first unit today. I paid $800 for a ten by twenty foot unit that was packed full of boxes. Couldn't see much from the door but after I moved some of the boxes I was excited to find out that the unit was full of cigarettes, cigars, pipes, tobacco posters and art, lighters and flavored tobacco. I haven't gone through more than a quarter of it yet but I'm pretty sure it's an entire tobacco store that went out of business. There are several glass display cases and shelving. Also, found a couple large boxes labeled Marlboro that are full of cartons. Can't wait to dig through the unit tomorrow to see what all I got.

Glad you had a nice score on your first unit, you should do quite well on it. Don't expect every unit to be a winner. I would avoid the internet and flea markets for selling tobacco products, especially the internet. Selling to a tobacco store could be an option.

She'll probably just have to sell them by word of mouth. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to buy a $30 carton of Marlboros. How much are they now $50-55 a carton? However, they might be stale depending on how long they sat in the locker and whether it was climate controlled.

I'm not sure but I don't think you need a license to sell smokes.   As long as the tax was paid, shown via the tax stamp, your good.

I know lots of small businesses that buy cartons at Costco and resale by the pack.   That's how we did it at the bar.......

I'd still do it on the sly to be safe.   Got a local needle exchange or methadone clinic?   Go sell cheap cartons there so they stop shoplifting them!

Local bars are a great place to sell them. If you have a carton of Reds, just walk around the bar until you see someone smoking Reds and ask him or her if they want to save 20 bucks on a carton. A smoker would have to be broke or an idiot to say no.

There is still local taxes to pay, no?

Phil

Here it's just sales tax.

And I asked a friend.....he needed to get a license to sell tobacco products.  And he can only buy from a licensed distributor.

So selling tabacco products here would be a hefty fine or arrest from Washington Liqour Controll Board which oversee's Alcohol, Tabacco and Marijuana sales.
