How do you sell used watches?
« on: February 25, 2013, 08:55:33 AM »
So how do you all get the best price for used watches. Not talking about cheap Wal-mart brands that get tossed in the garbage or a Rolex that can be easily sold to a jeweler or "We Buy Gold" place; I mean the mid-level watches that are to nice to toss but seem like a tough sell at the flea market?

Brands like Bulova, Timex, Seiko, Tag Heuer, Elgin, Fossil?

Do you spend the money to replace the batteries before selling?

What about replacing the broken wrist bands?

The better ones go on ebay
the cheaper ones go to the flea market
the junk ones go in a box and sold on ebay when i have 5-10 lbs worth
i replace batteries and you can get them super cheap on ebay 10 batteries for $2 -$2.50delivered in a lot of cases
its a lot easier to sell a watch thats running than one that isnt
by better ones i mean things i can get more than $20 for

Yeah, eBay is definitely the way to go. Some of the watches you mentioned are selling for 70-80% of their retail price.

I bought a large pack of mixed batteries from a tool place in columbia, sc.  I use it to check some of the watches that I think will sell.  If I put a battery in then the price is $10 or more.  If however I don't want to fool with it, is a cheapo, etc. I just put them in a box for $1 each.

Never thought of selling a box of them.  You doing it as scrap or parts on ebay?

anything thats messed up or i dont want to fix i usually put up as junk watch lot with the # of pounds in the title usually with a buy it now of about $4 a pound , I dont say anything about for repairs and dont elaborate on the condition of the watches

if you include  the ones that look like that might run with new batteries you mention that some will run with new batteries , a completed search on ebay will give you a better clue

oh semi important if your selling some decent watches on ebay too sell them after you get rid of the crap ones , not at the same time (I always check to see if the seller is cherry picking the nice stuff)

I sell vintage jewelry on Etsy. Wrist watches sell there OK. I haven't done a bulk sale there but lots do so I assume when I get enough I will just list them there as well. For all of my pocket watches I have a buyer that come in. I just bought batteries yesterday at Harbor Freight 24 for $3.99 assorted.

e-Bay has always been a good place for selling watches and if you are selling good brands then you always end up with buyers.
