How far are you willing to drive to auctions?

How far are you willing to drive to auctions?
« on: September 19, 2011, 07:26:20 AM »
I've been attending auctions for a few months and have purchased 2 units so far.  Up until now I've stayed fairly close to home, but I was wondering how far other people go for auctions.

I've driven 70 miles before for an auction, but it was an estate auction.  For storage auctions I've so far gone about 50 miles away to the next mid size city over the state line.  I will drive longer distances but only when I'm also going to be doing something in that area.  Example would be hitting some of the Atlanta auctions in Nov when I'm already going to be up that way.  However, with the distance it limits what all one can buy.  When I travel I look for small units that can fit in my truck.  So units with furniture, matresses, etc. are pretty much out automaticly.

Being in a suburb of Atlanta makes it fairly easy to not have to travel beyond 50 miles.  Of course if there were to be one in a very small town outside of that range I would go.

I'll do 150 miles or 300 round trip if theres enough action on the other end or along the way. However my dump is free so I dont have that expense so I figure it helps ofset the fuel bill..

We will often go to an auction up in Maine or New Hampshire but make a mini adventure out of it  , lobster or clams for lunch or dinner  and find a  small country auction to attend in the evening .
Otherwise We have plenty to choose from within 30 to 50 miles from home .

I usually do not go more than 50 miles, unless it is somewhere where I am going already because of other plans.

unless a facility has like 30 units going for auction im probably not gonna go more than 20 minutes there's more than enough units for auction in my immediate area.
