I've seen a few listings in the legal notices for some auctions this week. I've read that people can pay off the unit right up until five minutes before an auction. Most storage facility offices open up around 9:30 am in my area. Should I call right when they open or wait until about 60-90 minutes before the auction time?
Just wondering what other folks do.

If the auction starts at 10 and it takes you 30 minutes to drive there you would have to call about 9:20 right?

Most people will call the night before.
Because the tenant can pay up to the time it is sold at auction, there is only so much you can do. Sometimes you'll hit an auction and there isn't what you expected. The first auction I went to had 3 out of 4 units completely empty.

I try to call the night before right at 5:30 to see how many paid. Many of the places around here cut the locks after 5:30 the day before the auction.
You just never know also. Had one facility cancel the entire auction the morning of the sale. People start to show up at 9 and a sign on the door says auction canceled. Wasn't the people paid up, it was HQ canceling the auction or something I later found out.

I always call the day of if possible. Also be nice when you call!!! The office gets bombarded with calls about the auction and they usually are in a pissy mood

Thanks for the tips!

Good luck!

If it is an auction scheduled for the morning when they open up, I call the night before, about 10 mins before they close.
Otherwise I call 30 mins to an hour before the auction starts.
