Title: Scavenging (from anywhere) and turning it into money
Post by: MovieMan on April 05, 2013, 10:27:30 AM
I would guess everyone of us here has "found" something behind a store, in a dumpster or for free on Clist and then done something with it either for ourselves or for sale.

A couple of sisters have a new book for sale; here are their "rules"

Salvage Sisters' rules

• Rust is a variation of red; red is always an acceptable color.
• Never be the early bird at a yard sale. The real possibilities are in the rubble.
• Never sell among yourselves, trade only.
• Broken? All the better.
• Don't look at it for what it is, look at it for what it could be.
• It's about the eureka moment, not the thing itself.
• Make the recycling bin your first stop for art supplies.
• Hunt, find and tell. No secret sources.
• Never worry about how to get it home. Just get it.

I don't agree with the one I hightlighted in red above. Why tip other people off to a favorite spot
for other people's discards? Sorry, I won't be  THAT helpful.

On the other hand I like the last one....."just get it".

I agree with you on keeping secrets, I also disagree with points one & two that I highlighted in red. Not sure I understand the point about not selling among yourselves, trade only?

I am a BIG preponent of the last point "Just get it!"

I don't own a fork lift so I have to consider how I'm going to get it home.

You can "find" those behind stores too.   ;)
