1975Picker...

No wonder you see trash at mall dumpsters. Those prices you quoted are murder and would definitely put a crimp in making money in my area. In California we have a lot of laws about paint and such, but the prices for dumping vary by county.

In my area you can take a full pickup truck load (loaded HIGH) for $15 to $20 and that would include mattresses, old furniture, etc. If you have any old tvs or monitors on board you simply declare them (no extra cost) and they are put at the side of the dump area and collected by workers inside.

Those prices you quoted are incredible...what state are you in?

I found a big box of old baseball cards and comics from the 50's soaked in soy sauce. The box above it contained a bunch of bottles with no covers on them. One was soy sauce that tipped over. This was 20 years ago at a barn sale. What a waste. That was a bad day, because i bought a coin collection for $150 and they were all fake coins. The coins were really for education.I guess i should of read the fine print on the back of the book were it said these are not real coins. ;D

How much do you pay for dump fees on the junk that gets thrown away?We pay $20-$30 per appliance. That includes monitors,tv's,computers,washing/dryer machine, water tanks ect..

$2.50 for each trash bag under 30gallon.The bags cant contain any oil, paints or other hazardous material.Furniture is $15-$20 each.Mattress are $20-$30 each.Oil,batteries, florescent lights and scrap metal are free to dispose.

So far every storage unit i have seen would cost me more to dump it then what it was worth. It looks like a lot of people are using storage units to throw away all there junk, because in the long run it is cheaper to do it that way then to haul it off to the dump. Why care if you default on it when you are in bankruptcy.

Iam also seeing junk showing up next to dumpsters behind Malls and shopping centers, because the dump fees are to high.Dose any one think this will be a problem in the long run?

I would hate to bid on somthing that has 30 CRT monitors and old TV's hidding in the back, because it costs me $15-$20 each to dump.I will say people still use them, because i put about 10 on the road side for free and they were gone in about two hours.Three came back the next morning.

YOU ARE RIGHT ON .. this show is total BULL****!!  And I strongly suspect it is Scripted and FAKED!

I watched for the second time the Nov 30th show where these two PHONIES find a $8k Schwinn vintage bicycle in one locker and then in another cheap buy, a '79 Fender Strat Custom Color and Blues deVille Fender Amp!! GIVE ME A BREAK! Would ANYONE abandon a storage locker with those highly collectablles in them?? Unless the owner was a Fence or the Thief and now in jail, maybe!

I am a Vintage Guitar/Amp collector, dealer and also renting to the movie/music video studio industry for some 20+ years. First I k nnow that Norm of Norms Vitage Guitar is the biggest "shark" in the business ... he'd ripoff his own mother to under pay for a classic valuable axe or amp. That "custom color" 79 Strat in 99.9% condition is going for $4k to $6k on the market (yeah, late '70's strats are no '60's collectables) but his  offer of $2.1k was a joke and a rip-off, espwecially since that near mint '90's Blue deVille Amp was worth $300 - $400 on the market. Either these two show guys are MORONS for not researching the value (simple as Google '79 Strat Custom Color) or this was all STAGED! I think that Strat and Amp WERE PLANTED!! I also think the Vintage Bike was a plant too. I suspect that Norm's and the Vintage Bike dealer loaned those finds for the publicity!

This whole show has the SMELL OF FAKED and scripted!

That Strat is worth about $1000.Did any one notice it was a bolt on neck? They go for a lot less then a straight neck.No mother of pearl on the frets.Thats brings the price up even more.

Hi,
Ive been a picker since the middle 70's.I use to pick Department Stores dumpsters back then.Never could figure out why they threw a way good merchandise. If i had saved all the new toys, electronics, clothing that was all in there box's i would be rich. Most of the things i get today are from dump runs. Then i sell them right from my house.I live on a busy road so there is no need for Ebay or Craigs list..
