Yeah, rotate in a new guy, rotate out an old one.  Moe's gone.  I wonder if it will be like the main storage wars where they have a rotating stock of new guys until they find one that sticks with the fans....

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Did you catch Storage Wars Texas?

I noted the absence of Moe, but that was foreshadowed at the end of last season with him mentioning the hospital and this season with Mary saying he had surgery.  Since he's no longer in the open I assume he's not coming back (at least not this season).
Jury is still out on the British guy IMHO...

I noticed that too. I don't know if they pump up the prices on SW or if it's a regional thing where the prices are naturally higher out there.

I've always run on the assumption that on SW they buy and sell things in "California Dollars" which apparently are a completely different currency than the rest of us uses.

Welcome to the wonderful world of TV. They been doing this since the 1950's. Guess they why they call it Entertainment and since day critic and others called the show fake but people decided to believe different and showed up in massive heards from auction site to auction site waiting to get that big score they saw on TV. Kind of like the monkey see monkey do theory. As they say if you build it they will come

I think the analogy here is...

"Storage Wars" is to the storage locker resale business
as
"WWE Smackdown" is to greco-roman olympic wrestling.

I agree, Barry did two things which really helped hold the show together.

a) He was the bidder the "regular folks" could more closely associate with as he has the image of being the person just doing this for fun and try maybe make a buck, which is what the majority of the audience wants to be.  He doesn't have a whole life/business built around storage lockers.  He's a retired guy looking for neat stuff.
b) Comic Relief.

6
I wonder if the shuffleboard thing where he brought out his whole cast of "wacky sidekicks" was his swan song?

I think I was too much Supernatural because I was expecting them to start the show with a "The road so far.." and montage of Barry clips set to "Carry on my Wayward Son"

I think after the "Dave wanting more money" phase they felt the need to try to make all the original regulars know they were easily replaceable (odd since they haven't replaced Dave with a new agitator yet).

"The old vet who is just trying to make a good living" -- Ivy is there to show Darrell he can he replaced (although I think Ivy was originally meant to be the new Dave and fills some of both roles)
"The young couple trying to be the American Success Story (with wife with a great rack who makes fun of husband)"  -- Am I talking about Brandi and Jarrod, or Rene and his wife???
"The comic relief" -- The twins as a sad low rent replacement for Barry.
"Man and Woman auctioneer team with the woman being sassy and having attitude"  -- Which pair am I talking about?
"The agitator who is there for money and doesn't mind being the bad guy" -- This was Dave, and I think they wanted it to be Ivy, but Ivy just comes off a goofy and nice to much.

Show producers think in terms of formulas.  They don't just want a hit show, they want a template they can make other shows from.

I think Duck Dynasty does well because there are two big groups of people who like it..
a) Rednecks/swamp folk, or those like me who are essentially one generation removed from rednecks/swamp folk.
b) People who like to make fun of Rednecks and Swamp folk.

Combine those two groups and it's a surprisingly large audience.

And I disagree that they just need to salt up the lockers better.  The personalities of the people contributed a lot to the shows likability.  Just look at how lackluster the spin offs have been in comparison.

SO they've lost the chief agitator (Dave) and have yet to replace him (Ivy doesn't really have the pop  IMHO, and German Boy is only entertaining because I keep wondering how much skimpier his wife's outfits will get.)

Now they've lost the eccentric comic relief, and no the twins aren't gonna fill those shoes easily.

So the question becomes, what is the over/under on time frame after the show ends before the business gets "back to normal"?

I just assume they're talking in "Crazy California People Dollars" which have an exchange rate of something like 4:1 to regular dollars.

LOL...it could be worse. You could be a top ten poster on Storage Treasures' Forum.   ;D

The have forums?  I suppose as credit to your google-fu and/or domain name choice when I was interested I just googled "storage auction forums" and not so surprisingly this was the first hit so viola, here I am....

Yep, that's why the kids are either at the shop or at the auctions. Anyone seen how much it cost to put more then one child in a summer camp!

As opposed to back in the day when Summer Camp was being dropped off in the woods in east Texas with a 410 and a bowie knife and told "See ya around the 1st of August, try to have a decent number of skins to sell by then"

13
Under the auspices of full disclosure I feel compelled to also mention that sometime back in the early 80's I was one of those "kids" as in my Tween/Teen years I would occasionally do things with my uncle which included storage auctions (he had a thrift/resale store back then).

Which is actually why i'm starting to get interested in doing it again.

I think the defining line here is if the child in question is acting as a distraction/noise maker/little bottle of chaos versus the kids who show up in the assistant/gopher/apprentice roles.

Pretty easy to tell one from the other.  Kinda like how places allow service animals, but not just anybody's pet on a leash.

Just wondering if we have any stay at home moms here on the forum that buy and resell storage units? If so, can you tell us how you juggle the kids and a resale business?

You have an interesting MILF hunting strategy there sir, I have to give you that.
