Thats what you gotta do to compete in this business. By the way, thanks to Glendon's YouTube Video, you and your hubby's (Don) names have popped up in other places, so you might become a "local" celebrity on the auction scene.  ;)

You have got to be kidding me?  Heck down here everybody has moved on.......

That just stinks!  I am always cautious when carrying large quantities of cash and I'm one of the few women who refuses to carry a purse, so I have my cash (once) folded with a money clip that stays firmly planted DEEP in my right front pocket.  And that is all I carry in that pocket!

As far as pulling your money out to impress somebody~does anybody really do that?  I mean other than on Storage Wars?   ::)

Heck I'd offer to give ya half our junk if you were in the vicinity.  Like most here we're down to crap & scrap with a few 'decent' pieces, but they don't seem to be selling right now~~~

Good luck on the surgery~

Gotta get offline. Hear stirring grand-children who will soon be flopping in grandpa's lap !

Great line!  Glad to hear your enjoying yourself MovieMan!  Beautiful time to travel the west.  We're (already) pushing 90 degrees here today which meant minimal foot traffic at the local flea.  Soon it will be brutal.

So true on the rocks & kids!  My oldest daughter stops all the time to look over 'rocks' and animals and pokemon cards and......

Enjoy your vacation!

That would be my luck too Cheesehead....
Actually I went up against our local whale to the tune of $2100 on one locker and $1400 (everybody else had backed out at about $900) on another......I didn't win either, but at least he now knows I will stick around if it's a unit I really want......and I REALLY wanted that last one..... :-\

Well Don did it again~consignment locker....  Major differences~prominent auctioneer that informed everybody via an announcement and explained the situation.  A local construction contractor was now outta business (something too common in Southern AZ) and the 8 units were all his.  Don bought one for $130.  Will easily double to triple our $$$ on it.

No surprises, no treasures, just a dusty unit with a profit~

I was at a single facility with another auctioneer and many of our 'regulars' were there, choosing not to go (on a caravan) with the more 'popular' auctioneer Don was with.  They all kept asking how the crowds were 'over there'.  Amazingly enough crowds were minimal (under 40) and prices stayed 'reasonable' at both auctions.

Heading out for PS in a bit.......

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: MY RAT UNIT
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:13:05 AM »
The smell of the rat urine is why you only paid $475 for a packed full 10 x 30! At least in my local you would have paid 2 to 3 times that amount easy, so must of been the odor.  ;)

Anyway, don't worry about being new to Ebay and thinking nobody will buy from you. When you have something listed in demand, they will buy. If nothing you found in the unit is selling on Ebay, then look for some things around your house that you don't need or are willing to sell and check the completed listings. When you find some in demand go ahead and list them, and they will be gone. This is a great way to start your sales cred. I think the second or third thing I sold on Ebay was a WWII helmet. A guy from France bought it, he paid for international shipping and I had no problems. He didn't care about my Ebay rating, he wanted that helmet and so did the other folks bidding!

VERY good advice and definitely check the completed listings!  When I'm not sure what to price an item at, I check all the completed listings including the start price, shipping fees and condition.  Gives you a real sense of why some sell and others don't.  plus a well-worded ad with numerous photos helps immensely at least for me.

Take good care of your customers and your feedback rating will reflect that.

Good luck to you!

2 units for $150?!  That right there is pretty impressive!
It's a rarity I see any unit go for that low lately~

Congrats on the score(s)!

Lesa from SWT...what a ditz!!!...Keep Jerry...he's the only one with any common sense!!

That's exactly what I tell my husband.

Since I'm only allowed one and I can't pick just one, I'll say I agree with all that have been listed thus far.  I really don't like the wife on Storage Hunters, but then again I don't like that show.  Does anybody really act like those people at the auctions you attend?  Certainly not in my neck o' the desert.

I am relying on picking more and more;

May have to go back to that myself.  Only real issue is I live rural and the gas I spend on hitting 'decent' sales is too much.
I did hit a yard sale last Friday where I landed 5 vintage pennants for $3~just sold two on ebay for $49!  I was shocked when I got home and saw the final sale price!
Also bought (at the same sale) an antique cast iron headboard for $10.  It's in very rustic shape.  I've got it on CL for $75, but will take it to the swap meet tomorrow and see what I can do.  Don't think I'll go lower than $50 on it and at that price, it will....ok~should....sell~it's just too awesome!

Day two with our 'Hollywood' auctioneer brought HUGE crowds, upwards of 100 folks.  I bid on numerous units, but landed none.  There was really only one unit I 'wanted'.  10X10 full to the brim.  Could see (buried in the back) an electric guitar and amp, numerous electronics, a few pieces of furniture (but nothing exceptional).  I knew the crowd was hungry and many thought the unit would go upwards of a grand.  I set my cap at $800.  It went for $850.  Oh well.

The next facility was down to one unit.  They opened the door and there was a microwave, one tote with garbage bags in it and that's it.  It went for $95.  I kid you not.

I bowed out to get home to my youngest daughter while Don and my eldest carried on.  The last locker of the day was in an expensive neighborhood.  10X10, 2/3 full with lots of sportsmans equipment showing including numerous gun (and archery) cases.  The auctioneer said that any guns must be turned into the facility manager.  Don figured he'd go up to a grand.  It ended at $2100 to a gal that just loves to gamble (and mostly lose).  The crowd was shocked that it went that high, but that was the trend o' the day.  One guy in the crowd told Don that bidding her (and her boyfriend) up was the most fun he had that day (insert maniacal laugh here).

Auctions for today are cancelled, so will spend the time sorting and packing for a swap meet run manana~

You might want to watch it, you are qouted in the video too!
As are you Cobia eh?  sorry :-\

What a mess.
Apologies to the board for creating this hydra~
Oh well......there's no such thing as bad publicity right?

I just sent a message to money, but thought I'd make the same point here as I did there~
if Glendon's video saves one person from dealing with what we had to, then that would be fantastic.

I highly doubt it will sell.  However, as my daughter said about herself...."I've never taken one of those apart yet".  So will get the few bucks worth of scrap out of it and spend time with daughter.  Is part of the reason I do this.

Good luck today - hope you have fun.

I like your daughter.  Sounds like my eldest.  She is sooo danged curious.

We did have fun today.  Bid on numerous units, but only landed one.  Small one for $185 with some profitability.  Had a blast with the auctioneer and looking forward to day 2!

Watched 2 minutes 50 seconds of it and that was all I could take. During that entire time the screen shot of rockin's first post was on screen, THEN he started reading it. Bye, bye for me.  No way I could make it through the 29 minute video.

Well I suffered through the whole thing and bottom line, other than making us sound like fools (yes.....we know the mistake came upon signing the contract) he didn't say much that wasn't true.  Of course he didn't say much that we didn't already know either.

A few corrections and then I'm done with this thread~we had plenty of cash.  We've won a few, we've lost a few.  Plan on continuing to do so.   Again without knowing us or the situation or the facts, it's seems awfully easy for others to judge.

First time I've ever been a part of Youtube video......yawn......
