What's it Worth?? / Re: Possibly a gold mine?
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:42:18 PM »
Not a clue on the first one! lol

Second one, holland pewter, can't tell from the picture the size but kinda looks like what they call a "porrige pot".  A serving dish.  I don't know where you are but here Pewter isn't a big seller. Maybe $20?

Want to be very clear.....I had experience in selling stuff like this but in no way am I sure.
Could be totally off. Just giving you a direction to start looking.  <end of disclaimer>.  ;)

That's odd.
By no means an expert or even novice ....all I know is from researching all the crap my grandma left me upon her death.
A Cambridge Tuscan piece should have a little "crown" with or without the word Tuscan. (I google'd and double checked this)
Even the companies that made similar pieces marked their stuff.

My GUESS is it's a modern decor piece.....???

Hope I'm wrong but even so my grandma's stuff was in the $30-$75 range. Not gold mine but you might have a few bucks......

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Finding jewelry in a unit
« on: February 28, 2012, 08:05:56 PM »
Most everything I've got I've sold intact or scrap with stones in.
Most that had real diamonds, the diamonds were very low grade.
Could do the above and save them up but I don't get enough to make it worth my time.

And I've gotten a lot of pieces that are 10-18k gold with synthetic diamonds.
Gem tester is still on my to-get list.

Feburary sucked for selling. Worked way to much.
March I have tue/wed off and that's the days for auctions here.

Did a lot of details and some bodywork. Got an offer on the '67 datsun truck. Hasn't paid yet but looks like a done deal. And got a '97 BMW 528i that I gotta pull out the front end. Should make a couple bucks on that one. Got a couple bids in on some cars that are easy flips if I get them. Low ball'd so don't know. Don't put in huge bids on the online auctions. Found that the auction house's "runs great" differs from my "runs great".  lol

Anyway, set myself up cash wise for march auctions. I think I might overpay on a small unit even if I loose money just so I can say I got one!  Tho I'll tell y'all it was full of guns, gold, 200 safes and 5000yr old Egyptian cat.....that's still alive.  :)

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Firearms?
« on: February 28, 2012, 03:11:29 PM »
I just use a local gun shop. For 20% they will test/inspect/clean, run a check, do the back ground check and if gun is in my name they do paper work to transfer ownership.
They get top dollar and heavy traffic. Web posts. Can sell to someone in any state and the contacts to sell to dealers if you want to sell fast for less.
Usually get, even after 20%, close to what I can get selling thru paper with no work, hassle or risk.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Car Title in Storage Unit
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:03:42 PM »
Here in Washington the title doesn't mean much.
It would have to be signed AND have s Bill of Sale with it.

And she wouldn't put in for a salvage title but an abandoned title. Having the original title wouldn't help in the slightest.

Salvage title takes (as s rule of thumb) half off bluebook. Abandoned titles don't show anything, you get a normal title.

As for you having it, you don't own the car. You own a piece of paper that tells you who owns the car.

Also, if she puts in for a abandoned title the owner is contacted and can claim the car. She would need to put a lien against the title. That way the owner can either pay the debt, give her the car or just drive away. But since there is a lien he can never sell it or get tabs.

Again, this is my state. But it's pretty uniform from state-to-state. I've run into some slight differences but not much.

If you find it to be different let me know. I deal with cars a lot so would like to know.

The Lounge / Coin help?
« on: February 23, 2012, 08:03:30 PM »
Any coin people here?
Got a bag, weighs about 50lbs, of mixed coins. Since I'm not in need of fast cash I decided to just slowly sort thru as time permits. First sort to pennies, nickles.....then by year.

Anyone know a website that is reliable on price? Or price guide book coin people favor as scripture?
Searching around I've found such wide opinions on value. One site says this 1909 penny, top price,  is 0.3, the other $1, another $7.50.....
Every site says they are the best, their book is most accurate....,

Anyway, already have found a few okay ones. Two silver quarters and a nickel. Bunch of pennies in the 25-50cent range. Figure condition and the hit by selling to dealer isn't gonna make me rich but if I can get even a penny more than face value.....not like the game needs my full attention, might as well be sorting.

What a great day Alias!  I am still trying to find a place to unload used batteries.  Everyone around here either doesn't want them, or pays next to nothing.   They are starting to pile up!

I found a guy on CL that pays $9/ea if you have more than 20. $5/ea otherwise. Don't know where he sells. The recycle center only pays $5/ea.

A lot of shops will give you $4. Assume they stockpile and sell for $5.

Just ask around your small auto shops. Or if you see a battery guy ask him. Most of those battery delivery trucks are private owners. Like a vending machine guy. They own a route. He'll buy them for $2-$5.

I wait till I have a minimum of 10. Otherwise it just seems like a waste of time.

Hit Goodwill on Monday.Today blue tags were 99 cents.Pink and green 40% off.

That's what I did this weekend. Got some nice items cheap.
Cleaning up some furniture right now. Hope to get on CL in next day or two.
Still on the fence if I should CL the Sentry safe or keep till I get a good one.

I'm in a position where I have money set aside and items that I want X amount for so holding out but if need cash I can drop price and sell fast.

Scrap is always a good stand by. Can find that all over town.

Or at times I have just thrown out a CL ad to detail cars,

or undercoat/fabric/leather protect. New car buyers are much more willing to pay $100 to me with no warranty over ther dealerships $400-1000 with warranty that most people know is almost impossible to claim on......

The Lounge / Good find day....
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:26:16 PM »
Bored. Nothing to do so went driving.

Found 3 car batteries which puts me over the 20 mark so get $9/ea.
Some nice scrap that is an easy $100, perhaps more.
Goodwill had a sale and got a nice end table for $3 and sold s like one for $20. Also a Sentry safe for $6. It's 1.5cu size. Nothing special. Only fire rated at 350 for an hour. Was going to CL it but think I'll keep it until I get a good one.

Then I happened across the local market dumping produce!
Literally saw them pull it from shelf and wheel it out back. Was on cart next to dumpster so got 30ish pounds of various patatoes and yams. 100ish pounds of fruits/veggies.
Spent all eve slicing fruit and freezing. Made 2gallons of juice. Froze a gallon in qaurts.
Big ass pot of soup cooking.....
Normally wouldn't have grab'd it but since 10min earlier it was for sale on shelf....

My analysis:

Unit #1 if it's a lazyboy, and no bad stains, cigerette burns, or tears $100-$150 easy.

D*mn! I need to move.  But just 20miles south is 10-15 warehouse outlets where you can get furniture that has been on display for cheap. Might get $150 for a lazy boy if it's brand new, up a bit if new and leather.  Fred Meyer has off brand for $320 for two right  now....

But maybe I just don't have the outlets to move items for a good price.
Still looking for the people that will buy used shop vac's for $75-100 like they say on Storage Wars!  lol

eBay / Re: Shipping & Boxes
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:44:38 AM »
I always just keep an eye out at stores. Grocery/liqour stores are bad. Everything thing comes bulk and you know if you need that size they will ALWAYS be there.
Look out for stores that receive odd shape/size shipments. Auto parts stores, stationary and art stores.
Places like Target size have compactors but if they are stocking shelve and you ask for the box they will hand over empties.

Do the same with bubble wrap and peanuts.

I've never once bought shipping  supplies except maybe packing tape. Usually I even get that free from post office.  Tho I'm not a big shipper. I do mostly craigslist.
