Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Lookey Loos Part 9.....September, 2011
« on: September 09, 2011, 04:54:48 AM »
9-8 I attended a 7 facility caravan.  Was 30 units in paper up for auction.  Think it got down to about 25 or so.  The morning started off like normal with most of the regulars, a few regulars from the next major city over, and a few of us hobbiest.  Next site saw more people that I didn't recognize but that was due to the resteraunt equipment 4 different people came for.  After that place all the newbie's showed up.  So we went from about 15-20 people to close to 30-35 by noon.  A few of the regulars bowed out at this point due to getting lunch, one already had 5 lockers, etc.  By the end of the day it was about 20 of us again.  With 1 local regular, 2 next city regulars, 4 of us hobbiest, and the rest new people.  One doctor even had his son out there (home schooled) that I thought the auctioneer was going to punt into a locker and lock it.  Will post a longer thread on all the unit prices, a few pictures, the 2 lockers I purchased and pictures.

U-haul 2 facility this morning.  Will let you know how those crowds are.

Yep - that one is a little out there for me.  However, I'm sure it would wind up next to "Herman" the imbalmed shark and other crap sitting on my nick/nack table.  I'd even take that to work to sit on my desk just for some reactions.

They must be freaking crazy.  They could quickly get slapped with a $100k fine for each offense.  If they are older medical records they have SSN's all in the record also.  They only way they would be covered is if every one of those patients were dead.  Even then your talking about some major bad publicity.  You can report violations via the url below.

$250 for a all box type unit isn't bad.  Is normally what my max is depending on the size.

I do have to laugh at people that run themselves up.  It's like they don't pay attention or something to what their bid is they just tossed out.

Let's hope this month is better.

Lol - this is one of those lockers that make you forget all about the 20 you bought and had to fight tooth and nail to break-even on.  Sounds like one of the lockers that they would of shown on one of the TV shows.  Gratz again man.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Second Unit not as great as my first

Sorry but I had to sort of laugh about the stuff animals.  Father and I stopped our bid on a unit that had a roll-top desk that he wanted.  The reason we stopped wasn't just because the bid went over $150.  It was partly due to the 4 large bags of large tiger, leopard, etc. stuff animals.  These looked in good shape but if I was to bring them home I'd never be able to get rid of them.  If had won the unit they were going to be dropped off in the middle of the night at my sisters house for her little girls and not mine :)

Well unlike TV I've come to find out most of the auctions are done by the local manager, owner, or regional manager.  I know one of the auctions I missed that had 3 units, only had 4 people at it.  Didn't miss much from talking to one of the regulars that went there.  For the most part everyone is friendly.  Don't know if that is a southern thing or what.  Good luck in your future auctions.

ROFL - some of ya'll just have all the luck.....NOT.  Who the heck would come to an auction in a RV.  Seriously get a clue.  Only a few Saturday auctions about an hour or so away from me so not going to attend.  Kids soccer practice trumps auctions  :(

Next week looks better.  Have U-haul on friday and a 30 locker caravan on Thursday.  Decided to take day off thursday so can hit all of the units.  Was just listed on the 1st so hopefully not too many get pulled.  U-haul I'll have to try and hit at lunch if they are done with the first facility on time or not early and I miss it.  Will try and get more pictures from the caravan.

A grand for 4 old matresses that you have to take to the dump.  Hmm, think I'd of given that guy the "Storage Auction Dumb Axx Award" for that.

Other then my very first auction which was on a saturday around here things have been pretty level.  Highest units have been at $550 for full family type units w/ lots of furniture and such.

That is an odd-ball bid, or is that with the tax and stuff included.  Or was it a silent auction?  You must be driving some distance for that fuel cost.  Sounds like one fill-up in my truck which would get me about 400 miles depending on traffic.  Please keep us informed.  More info we all have the better.

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Live in GA buy in FL

Welcome Liandra to the forums.  You ever try the Savannah auctions?  For most states it's the law they must "describe" what is in the units but they can't enter the units just like us.  Some facilities may or may not actually follow the law.  You quickly learn who and what sites.  So far for me only 1 place looked like they had a staged unit and that was in SC.  I know from talking with the regulars they have found a few goodies.

Let us know how Jacksonville or which ever city you hit in FL looks.

eBay / Ebay Shipping via USPS Flat Rate
« on: September 02, 2011, 04:53:53 PM »
Ok - maybe I'm just being dense here so come to ask for help.  I was going to try and sale some unopened software I have (WOW BC Collector's Edition).  In the past I've always used priority shipping.  Started to work on the listing and got to the shipping part.  Did flat rate - Priority mail med box.  The max ebay will let me charge for shipping is $4.00.  WTH is that?  Is there a setting or something I need to change since not done ebay in years?  Cost for a flat rate box is 10.95.

Was going to do the calculate shipping but then depending on where buyer is at the rate would be different.  I wanted it to be a flat rate.

Suggestions or hints from ya'll that do Ebay all the time?

Oh nice - wish I could find some old coin collection.  Don't just toss it aside or melt it.  Depending on the condition, dates, mint marks, etc. the coins could be worth some money.  Most indian head cents are book price $3 and up.  Can sell them easy for a buck, buck 50 with no problem, even in worn condition.

The texas and cowoy cliche is true.  They are far away from being what I would consider Rednecks....course we just got a glimpse.

I think they did this "Unlocked" show the way they did to follow in the footsteps of Deadliest Catch.  At the end of the season there they bring all the captains and do Q&A and highlights.

Hopefully this will show some poeple it's not all fun and games.  I've seriously not bid on a few lockers due to the fact they were so full of furniture and such and didn't have time to clean it out.

Lol - he showed that violin and I was like....that thing is busted up bad.  I was right it was a child one also.  Was comparing it on tv vs my daughters one she had from school.  While a child teaching violin cost 600+ bucks it has to be in playing condition.  Not sure why he thought he was going to get millions for a busted one.

His estimates on most everything is always high.  It's like the tires in this last show.  He said what $200-300.  Not sure if he was talking each or a set.  I never see them going for that at the local racing swap meet.  Only thing I agreed with him on was the engine.  If it was stock and then also had some performance parts in there it would of been a nice unit.  Not for $8k but who cares that he lost some cash.
