I like watching the kids when parents find toys and such. To them it'd better than Xmas.  Everything in the locker is a treasure! lol

A facility asked me how I'd feel about having to register online.
They were thinking buyers would have to register and put a deposit by the night before.
They hadn't worked it all out and just asking everyone for input.
But I'd be cool with some variation of it.
Also thinking of restricting it to 18+.  Nobody is watching their kids while bidding and they are scared of injury/law suit.

The other idea was opening all lockers from say 8-11 with an employee guarding. Then auction. But scraped idea cause of cost and people want the locker opened in front of them. I can see both sides. Be great to show up. Go to all five lockers and see they aren't for me and leave but also I too want the lock cut in front of me......

The Lounge / Re: No auction place is safe.

Well that sucks.
Wonder if the place here will change to auction style.
They just sell by weight. Pallet is weighed. There's the price. If more than one person wants it THEN it goes silent auction.

Friend if mine was into it but it's a gamble. 99% clothes obviously. He had lots of electric razors and hairdryers and the worlds largest collection of hotel shampoo. lol

Check out this place: unclaimedbaggage.com/

Just thought of a tip....

I have "safety flags" for airplane inspections. Just a red strip of material sewed  to a rubber o-ring.
I slip it on the lock of my storage locker after constantly getting lost in the warehouse. Really, the place is a maze!!

No more counting rows or looking at numbers. Can find my locker from a distance.

I do keep personal safety "stuff" in my car at all times.
Usually have s pocket knife and multi- tool on me.
Also in the tool box is gloves (work & surgical), dust mask, tools, torches, garbage bags....all your emergency stuff plus I do side automotive work so all ghat crap.

About the only thing I think I can recommend is when you go to auctions, look at the locks of ALL the lockers and what the facilities sell.  Then get the same. You don't want to go cheap and some of those expensive ones don't even fit on some facilities lockers.

That was advice given to me when a guy saw the lock I had. It fits but, at that facility, the way the latch clicks over its a total b*tch to get on.

Now have five. Two of the kind I like and three cheaper of various sizes.

Then again, for me, forgetting a lock is no big deal. Since I can't seem to win any lockers!!! >:(

that kinda goes into my belief that they "know" what's inside.

So far, all the ones I've attended they've cut the lock. Either had it double locked with their own and renters still on. Or they had an evidence lock. Those wire things that are a thin wire that  you have to destroy to get off

Not from there but I've been out of this for years and just got back in.
Noticed it too.
But it's random. Some do the "who wants to open?" some start with a figure.
And at one he opened a trash locker at $75 and then a good one at $25 followed by a 10x20 filled at $25.
I just figured he knew the good ones would go well above any open so started low to get people going.

Haven't been to enough to know the auctioneers but seems to be personal style.

Flea Markets / Re: Question: selling to sellers
« on: February 08, 2012, 01:20:57 PM »
Thanks. That makes sense.
Just wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking some "code" and insulting people.

Never really thought about them having to lug it away.

Flea Markets / Question: selling to sellers
« on: February 08, 2012, 10:53:09 AM »
Love going to fleas and swaps. I pick, don't sell.
But I do sell a lot to the vendors. I usually go a few times, talk to the sellers, see what they always have then if I come across something I'll go to them. But it's always a bit uneasy.

Question to all you that sell at markets. Is it bad form to just walk up and say I got this, you interested?

Cause when ever I do it that way they kinda blow me off or offer just nothing.
Like this weekend I had an end table. Guy had like pieces so I offered it to him for $15. He didn't look and just said no. Stall next to him offers $5.

I sold it on CL for $60.

For certain items I'd rather take less. Move it fast and not have the hassle of ad, calls, meeting....

Am I breaking some unwritten rule of flea marketers? I've done it fir years, works well but always catch attitude.....

I see your point.
And I guess five bucks is an okay price as not to be tripping over kids and having 20 people in your view of the locker

As my grandpa use to say: ya can't get a pickle if you fill the jar with radishes.

No f**king clue what that means, never have. But to him it answered just about all lifes questions.

best I can do for you......

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Ebay vs. Flea Market
« on: February 07, 2012, 08:50:31 PM »
All valid points.
All I was thinking is that if you don't do even a quick google search you might be selling an expensive hotwheels for $1......

Only reason this hit me was because my co-worker is a hotwheels guy. Waiting outside retail stores in morn when he knows a shipment is in. Pays the stockroom guys to call him when certain ones are in. I couldn't believe how much he makes on the weekend with those things .

Back on point.....
I don't really count research time in. I just do it at down times at work or while I'm laying in bed watching tv. Basically when I wouldn't be doing anything else anyway. So if I find something is worthless I didn't really waste my time. At most I missed out on the last half of an old MASH episode. :)

I see their point but that's messed up. I'm not paying $5 just to find they have three trash lockers. Or lockers that go above my limit.

Though this tells me the facility doesn't like the reaction to the tv shows either.

My feeling is the facilities liked the higher bids as a result of the shows but now it's just not worth it. Not like the have that many defaults. Most often sold within two months of last payment so not a huge loss. Auction recoils some. Selling to collections a touch more and the rest is a write off.

And that's my opinion with having no knowledge of financial losses due to default.  :-\
