eBay / Re: Ebay hacked -change ur password
« on: May 24, 2014, 10:27:41 AM »
big screwup on ebays part. first off they notify us way late to change our passwords and even changing your password all your data is still out there. i imagine this will turn into a big class action with ebay having to pay for lifelock for everyone for a year or two. i hope it blows up in their face since they handled it poorly as well.

eBay / Re: Annoying Ebay Glitch
« on: May 19, 2014, 12:07:05 PM »
I run into this all the time, its very annoying. Sometimes it wont let me remove a buy it now price, othertimes it wont let me remove an auction price.

When I run into this the most is when I'm using a past listing to relist. Say I had a past listing for an item or even a current item and want to add an auction listings to match my buy it now listing. I'll do create a similar listing but it will never let me change to an auction. What I have to do is click continue and get taken to the next page almost as if I'm going to make a duplicate listing, then go to edit and when you go back into the listing it will then allow you to change from fixed price to auction or change prices.

You are right its super annoyigng and its almost as if its not a glitch since it screws up everytime lool and never does it correctly but what are you gonna do.

Rules,

I appreciate the input and I thank you for the compliments. I agree, we do need new boards for other types of auctions and I'll implement them this week.

And yes, we've been digging for new topics for a while. Not much in this industry (besides online storage auctions & lien laws) is changing. We've talked about almost everything. In the beginning, newcomers posted a lot of basic questions, which spurred activity. 7 storage auction reality shows later, the public has a pretty good understanding of how the storage auction business works.

Factor in that "auction" forums (with the exception eBay related forums) get very little activity in the first place and it makes you appreciate what we have here.

One thing I've learned about forums is that activity spawns activity. Sure, some of the questions being asked could be answered by a simple Google search. But that defeats the purpose of a forum...to have a conversation. I'd rather ask you guys a question and get several opinions than trust something I read in an article where the author may have an agenda.

Most of the people who visit the forum (with the exception of our regulars) are looking for answers to certain questions and once they find their answers, they move on. That's just how forums work. Every now and then, forums attract new members (who actually get involved in the conversation) and once in a blue moon, members like yourself (top 10 poster, top 10 topic starter) come along.

I know it may seem like some of the posts were made just to stir up conversation, and they are. When I visit a forum, especially one that I would consider participating in on a regular basis, I look at the activity. If the forum is stagnant, I assume that my posts won't be answered in a timely manner or ever.

Keeping the forum moving is not an easy task but I give it my best every day. We recently had to ban one of our best topic starters (which wasn't an easy decision) due to his constant negativity, but I think the forum will be better off in the long run without him.  Alloro & I have been doing our best to keep things moving, but we can't do it all on our own. We really need everyone's help. We need our regulars to get involved in the conversations and start new topics. We need people who aren't currently members to register and introduce themselves, ask some questions, tell us their stories. If we all just contribute what we can, the forum will be a better place for everyone.

Remember, activity spawns activity.

Very cool, would love to see some new sections. To the other poster who posted would love for him to drop soem knowledge on estate auctions, I've been to a few but don't know much so thats' something I'd love to explore a bit more. Definately have a great appreciation for what you do, I've tried a few forums in the past and failed and like you said majority of forums out there have little to no activity or are poorly run, most industries or niches have like one good forum and yours is it for storage aucitons. I remember years ago signed up for storage kings and a few others but quickly lost interest and moved on. Yeah I think some other types of auctions or ways to get merch would be of great interest to myself and many others. I'll try to be more active myself and would love to see others as well as like you said essentially you can have the greatest forum and moderator around but without a commmunity theres nothing so would love to see some new topics and more activity. Keep up the great work.

Guilty.

Hello everyone, I am one of those you were speaking of Travis, I pop on the forum check out the nuggets I am interested in from resent posts and move along. I guess sometime I think my input has no value, but as I am writing this I realize not participating by commenting and asking questions I'm missing out on all the value this forum gives.

I don't do a lot of Storage Auctions because of my day job, most of them around here are during the week. Estate auctions and regular auction houses is where I get most of my merchandise so maybe that could be new topic to add.

Love the Forum and committed to be more active.

Darrell

I've been to a few estate auctions but not many and don't know much about them. Would love you to share some knowledge about those? Are you able to bargain or are the prices listed the prices? What type of stuff do you typically see? Any other strategy or anything you have to share woudl be awesome. I always look at these online but rarely go so would love to hear some more about them.

Hey guys, sorry havn't been posting in a while or as much as I used to, have my hands full with some other projects and been traveling a bit. The ebay section is probably one of my favorites these days, not a ton of activity on there.

Travis, tons of props, love the changes you've made to the site, love you as an admin and everything. I appreciate that your trying to spur discussion but at the same time, just my opinion, the forum is kinda being watered down with junk posts. I see you and a few others posting things like can you retract a bid on ebay? or similar questions, things that are easily found on ebays site or even doing a quick google search first result that pops up.

Though not as accomplished as you I do have some blogs and have taken a stab at forums in the past with no success. The reason I bring this up is say a new reader or someoen new to storage auctions comes nad checks out the site. Even if there aren't as frequent updates as ideal if they see past discussions that answer important questions and provide good advice they will probably join teh forum and add some value. If they come and see the entire first page of a category is garbage filler questions they probably wont even bother taking a look around.

I'd love to see maybe some sections added, maybe a bit off topic but everyone here i think has some similar interests in terms of making money so maybe focus a section on police auctions or soething. The company I used to attend auctions for that did chicago pd auctins and us marshals hassn't run one in a year. I love police auctions but can't find any in the chicagoland area. Also maybe those freight auctions or airline auctions or maybe even a section for wholesale merchandise for those ebay sellers out there

Not sure if this woudl be more fitting for a PM but would love to see the forum as engaging as it used to be. That said I shoudl also probblyy chime in a bit more myself and try to stir up some discussion. Love the forum, would love to see everyone engaged like before.

eBay / Re: Do cigarette company "stamps" still sell on eBay?
« on: May 14, 2014, 12:29:40 PM »
While I was researching this, I saw several lots of tobacco coupons listed for sale. Coupons are selling well on eBay. Want free money? You can buy Chase Bank coupons where if you open a new checking account, you get $100, $150 or even $200 or more depending on the type of account you open.

Just because an item is listed doesn't mean its allowed to be listed on ebay. ebay is full of fake lacoste polos as clearly nobody sells new lacost polos for 20 bucks. Ebay has way too many listings to police. I'm not a tattle tale on ebay but its bull**** if ebay penailises me for something and lets all my competitors do the very same thing so occasionally I'll bring a listing to their attention. They never do anything about anything. I got penalized once ove a stupid issue someone claimed I was using their pic when it was a public domain stock photos. I disapeared from ebay searches for like 3 months, I have a competitor with his website links all over his listings they do nothing, listing items in the wrong category to get more listings and avoid limits and get lower % fees again ebay does nothing. This has been going on about a year, I've reported wit the report button and also called up and talked to reps 5 times nothing has been done. Just because you see something on ebay doesn't mean its allowed and though ebay is bad about policing ebay if your unlucky enough to get caught there goes your ebay account all over selling a coupon and making a couple bucks.

I thought ebay did away with all coupons. As far as tobacco I think they allow american type tobacco vintage memorbilia but no actual tobacco products

eBay / Re: Do you use Stamps.com?

I checked them out one time and found them to be just a middleman with no added benefit.

agreed, you can't beat paypals integration with usps and ebay plus if your a top rated seller or power seller theres pretty substantial discounts. on a flat rate envelope express normal price is about 20 i get it for about 12 or 13.

eBay / Re: Ebay Screws Non Store Owners..
« on: May 10, 2014, 12:43:54 PM »
In the past many people had two accounts a store account and a non store account because in the free listings department non store owners actually got more free listings. Kinda a backwards way of how busienss is typically done, give more to those who arent' paying you. I never really thoguht that made sense. It's not really screwing ebayers without stores, with anything whether cellphones or anything else if you pay more or commit to some length of time you get a better deal. Why shouldn't store owners to pay anywehre from $15 to $300 a month get more than someone who pays nothing?

eBay / Re: Ebay Non-Paying
« on: May 10, 2014, 12:41:51 PM »
This a little over a week ago was the first time in three years that I listed something for sale on ebay. I did an auction and it ended at $100. Guess what?  Caught myself a non buyer.

Do any of you guys find that this happens with a certain niche, or is every type of product effected by this?

With buy it now it cant happen if you request immediate payment. With auctions, especially 7 days auctions, your giving someone 7 days to shop around for a better price or to decide they don't want the product. many people may decide immediatley they dont want it but are too lazy to cancel their bid so they just let it end and dont pay and cause you a headache.

eBay / Re: How do you create a fake account on eBay?
« on: May 10, 2014, 12:40:27 PM »
You don't need a paypal account to open an ebay account. Its just like creating a regular account. Many people do this to contact sellers in their niche and try to supply them so its not attached to their real account and they cant get their real accont suspended. If you actually wanna use a second account or open an account because you are banned you need to chnage all info, use diff credit card, diff email address, diff address and ideally use a different ip address or use deep web so yours is bounced around. Otherwise ebay will eventually catch on.

PayPal / Re: Money sent to PayPal account by mistake

similar things happen with bitcoins more than you would think

I've made great money on some units and broke even on others. There is money to be made but this is hardly a passive income. You really have to work for your money. The shows show people buying a locker, going to see an expert and collecting thousands of dollars. That said the reality is money is being made however your also spending your weekends at flea markets, having garage sales selling items for pennies. It truly is a hustle and hard work and I think thats why the fad of storage auctions and many newbies had such a short run. If you don't mind some dirt, hard work, and like networking you can make a nice side income.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: When the door opens, where are you?
« on: April 29, 2014, 07:02:35 PM »
I'm generally in my car smoking a bowl and then running up to the door as the line dwindles lol. Seriously though, I like to be towards the back. When your the first person in line you got 20 people behind you pushing you along wanting to see the locker. I think the people towards the back get a bit more time to linger and look around.

I forget the exact amount but does anyone know what dollar amount your required to keep receipts for? I believe something under like 900 or 1100 you aren't required to keep documentation but anything above that and you are.
