General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Spring Cleaning.....
« on: March 18, 2013, 09:19:24 AM »
If anyone here doesn't have items cluttering up at least one room in their home, they're either not buying much or they are a very organized and efficient buyer indeed.

My problem is just getting rid of stuff so REGULAR spring cleaning can take place !

Fifty or more of the items below could be made from the stack above.

The Lounge / Spam emails...not from Clist
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:04:23 PM »
Received two spam emails today:

The first one purports to make me a multi-millionaire ! It was sent from a Marjie Simmons but text is about people
with other names.

#1

My wife Violet and I Allen Large won $11.3 million in a lottery 6-49 in July, 2010 and we have decided to donate the sum of $2,000,000.00 USD to you. Contact us via our personal email for more details ([email protected])
.

The 2nd is from "FedEx" and suggests that my package had arrived 11 days ago but couldn't be delivered. They wanted me to push a "print receipt" button and take the receipt to the nearest FedEx office.

Hard to believe some people fall for this obvious CRAP approach in either #1 or #2.

#2
To receive your parcel, please, print this receipt and go to the nearest office.
Your parcel has arrived at March 11.Courier was unable to deliver the parcel to you at 11 March 06:33 PM.

Storage Auctioneers / Re: Auctioneer Makes Up Laws As He Goes
« on: March 17, 2013, 09:50:03 AM »
You guys probably don't remember the post I made a few months ago about the dancing cowboy who conducts some of the auctions in my area.

Well, I remember it, but that's either because I have a good memory or relates to the fact that I'm a "stalker" !

In my area we have a similar idiot who on more than one occasion has said "You have to sign in..it's the law."  In reality of course it's for him to show his boss how many people showed up for the auction.

This is the same fellow who pulls bolt cutters out of a locker if he sees them as he sees that as "breaking the law" somehow also. He must have dozens at home waiting to be sold.

He also arbitrarily assigns "deposits" based on his opinion of the buyer's looks and whether he thinks they will leave a mess behind. Unbelieveable but true.

Due his actions he and his company have been dumped by single-owner facilities and chains alike as they have now gone with an auctioneer who is not on a power trip, but out to make money for everyone concerned (except maybe the newbie buyer !).

Does anybody else get creeped out by somebody “Checking Up” on the members of this forum?

And this isn’t the first time it has happened…

What creeps me out is pictures of men wearing "wife beater" shirts standing next to engine blocks.  ;D

Actually it's quite easy to see what someone is up to in the buying and selling world; take Jrossjr for example from the original post in this thread.  Just go to the STATS page on this forum and look at top 10 posters section. JRoss is #5 of the top ten posters with almost 900 posts during his time here.

If you click on his name there it will take you to his profile which clearly shows to the entire world several links where he  sells items.  Combine that with the fact that in one of his posts he commented that he did most of his chatting about the business on the "other" website and it's not a stretch to see what he's up too.

People are "on the radar" anytime they make posts about their activity. Anyone can access that info without much effort.
People who have websites also have public records of their home addresses, etc.

I watch some people here because I'm interested in their buying and selling routines that I might learn from. Of the around 3,000 members there are only 10 or so who post on a regular basis with maybe another 10 to 15 who post less often and maybe another 15 or so who post less than that. The vast majority of those 3,000 never post at all...now those are the ones that are harder to find.

Meanwhile, remember those eyes in the sky and Google Streetview vans are always active, so a real view is always a possibility out there.

Well today was a complete bust.

Sorry to hear that. If I recall correctly this was one of two favorite sets you had. From 23 to 1 is a huge drop.

But....there are always more auctions !  ;D

Well, if you haven't realized it by now, I'm not politically correct.  ;D

Actually, I've known it for a long time.

Picking through trash? Literally? No thank you. I'll stick to storage units.

With a six-figure salary like yours (from your online efforts) I'm surprised you still deal with $50 upholstered chairs on Craigslist.

No, but I had a dream last night that I was...and in the dream I still couldn't tell a difference. I guess for now, as long as he/she is doing a good job, it really doesn't matter.

Oh my !

A politician would be a dead duck saying something like this.

The Lounge / Re: What is stainless steel scrap price in your area ?
« on: March 15, 2013, 04:13:04 PM »
non magnetic stainless was 50 cents a pound last i checked

Thanks for that info. I posted about a stainless steel shell over a outdoor light timer that I got and one of the guys said the stainless could be worth as much as $15. I found that hard to beleive for the small quantity. The whole thing weights maybe 25 pounds but 23 pounds of that is transformer, etc.  That would make the thing worth $1 if broken out. Hardly worth the effort involved.

Will wait for some other responses.

Thanks for the quick response guys!

Here's another idea. I'm only 400 miles away from your goods. Post some photos or a link to photo-bucket or whatever and let ME take a look at it. I might be interested.

You may be a candidate for Travis' new FREE storage auction listing service. He has not sprung it on the public yet, but will do so soon. You could PM him and talk about it.  IF you decide to go with him, I would like a 1% commission for steering you in the right direction.  ;D

This article published March 11, 2013 pretty much tells most of us what we already know, but some newbie reading this post might benefit from it.
