:o  I see that it's time to come up with some new subject to talk about.

How about this one? It's a winner if ever I saw one.

Question about meeting at your storage unit.. How do you work out the gate access? Do you meet them out front and squeeze 2 vehicles through the gate? Do you pack your vehicle with your product and bring it out front?

If the appt is at 3 pm I arrive at 2:45 and go through the gate to my unit. I locate the item and leave my car at the unit. I then walk to the office and wait for the person to come at 3 pm. The mgrs there know me well...I have had the unit for years and get a bargain rate. I often give them items that I get in bulk. In other words we have a good relationship.

When the person gets there I code them through the gate and tell them how to get to the unit. I walk through a shortcut and meet them at the unit. I show (and usually sell) the item and then I either leave with them or walk to the gate if I have other work to do. I have to punch them out.

Craigslist / Craigslist Flakes...Let the 2013 Flake Count Begin

In the last 9 years I think I've only had 5 no-shows for appointments I've made with them at my storage location which is where I meet prospective buyers.

I don't want them coming to my home and the locker is only 1 mile from my house, so not a big deal to drive to it.
I have a friend who meets people at the side of an apartment complex about .4 of a mile from his house. He brings electricity with him for those items that need it.

Anyway, today I was to meet a gal at 7:45 am to look at an item and I waited a solid 25 minutes and she didn't show. She was coming (supposedly) from 30 miles away so I was giving her some time based on possible traffic problems. I usually only wait 15 minutes.

So, that's number 1 on the flake list for 2013, and the first for about 9 months. I guess my luck is running out.

You beat me to it !

"I lie about everything. Even about lying."

I don't know what percentage of people do it or with what regularity, but some of the "why" people do it is revealed in an article at the link below. Oh, and it happens here on the forum for sure !

Craigslist / Re: Texting late at night.

Last Tuesday I bought a locker. I put up 14 ads on Craigslist. Today I had 3 left. I don't leave my phone number on the ad. I say to respond with whatever catch phrase in the subject line. If I don't see that catch phrase in the subject line, I don't respond with my phone number.

That's a good return ! (11 sales in a week.)  Very good!   I have had an antique on Clist for 10 months. Buyer coming today from 40 miles away and the price will stay firm !

To have "gotten" $20/$10 for a monkey doll ?  Outstanding !

Catch phrase.....Cassowary...who'd have thunk that one up !  ;)

I've never put my number in the Craigslist ad, so I can't say if it's better to put your number in there or not. If I did, I would definitely code it like this.. nine1nine six22 nine78two. Again to weed out spammers.. But maybe I'm paranoid!

There is a fellow in my area who has three ads running. He has the same phone number in each ad, but he uses your suggestion of mixing it up with numbers and words. But he does that mix three different ways in three different ads ! What the heck ! I guess he's had problems before.

What do the phone spammers do?  Do they put it into an autodial machine or something?

Like I said I've "never" had a problem.  Wait, one guy called me after midnight (the work shift he was on) but he was just a dumb jerk who didn't think about the hours most people keep. Anyway, he came the next day and spent $45 bucks so I was ok with it.

You put your phone number on CL? That's a bold move!

That's the only way I get contact from prospective buyers. There is a checkbox that prevents them from sending you email and I check that.

Been doing the phone number approach for over 9 years now and haven't had a problem. Most of the time they get an answering machine...my home number. I don't want to get calls to my cell phone.  Then I make an appt to meet them at my storage unit which is only a mile from my home. I think in all these years I've only had maybe 5 no shows.

Also, when I get a message left on my machine and it has an out of town area code, I always ask them what city they're in to rule them out if it's 90 miles away...though I had one guy drive 400 miles for an item (one way).  Knowing they come from a city that is say 30 miles away helps to keep the price firm...are they going to drive that far (one way) and then dicker over $5 or $10 off on a $50 item?  Hasn't happened yet.

Guess their own web page can't keep up with what they are doing on-air !

Perhaps the explosion shown above is the lawsuit blowing up...but no wooden spike through Dave's heart !

Two new episodes of the original Storage Wars are airing March 18th but it looks like the show will go on without Dave Hester. Will it still draw huge ratings? We'll see.

That's funny. From what I read on A&E's page for Storage Wars they showed some old episodes, but no new ones.
One would think THEY would be promoting new shows.

What are the episode names and city locations you say are new episodes?  What is your source?

Not a single sale.    Nothing..

Well, at least you tried. If you hadn't you would never had known if it would have worked or not.

The product I'm thinking about has six people doing it on Etsy and a similar number on eBay, so I have SOME hope, but if it doesn't work, it works locally anyway.

I posted a bunch of products up there for my promotional products business. Wedding favors and announcement magnets, things like that.. Never got a hit.

Etsy started out as an "artsy-fartsy" place and at one point I understand there was quite a fuss because some products being sold weren't coming out of little mom/pop shops but from "overseas" outlets.

Your "never got a hit mention" reminds me of two years of off and on listing on eBayClassifieds for items I also had on Clist. Took two years, but when I made a sale it was for $800 and I was a happy camper.

I'm wondering if people who were looking for wedding favors, etc wouldn't look more locally for that kind of item so they would have more "control".
