its interesting to say the least but unless im reading that wrong the average sale seems to be about $2

Maybe MY math is wrong; I took $117 million in sales and divided by 6 million sales to get an average of $19.50 per sale.

Anyone want to try a third math calculation so we can get some consensus?

Etsy is piquing my interest of late as I am sort of developing a product that might sell there.

They have a monthly "weather report" that includes statistics on that month's sales.

Here's one about  December of 2012.

Craigslist / Craigslist Statistics
« on: March 09, 2013, 07:13:39 AM »
Many of us use Clist to sell with varying degrees of success at different times of the year.

I find it very useful and just like eBay, sometimes you have to bide your time or change your
approach to get the best results.

Here are some BASIC statistics on the Clist reach.  I'll post more specifics later.

eBay / eBay Marketing Areas of Interest
« on: March 09, 2013, 06:41:25 AM »
Many of us sell on eBay and while we sell a broad spectrum of goods, there are some members here to sell to a niche market as well.

The following article details WHERE on eBay the most widely sold products are listed AND the section about 3/4 down has interesting facts on how many BIDS an item might receive.

The Lounge / Spike Orders Four Unscripted Series
« on: March 09, 2013, 06:24:51 AM »
They're at it again !

Reality TV is cheap and popular so Spike has contracted for 3 NEW series and renewed one old one.

The term "unscripted" is a real misnomer of course. They go into these shows with a perspective in mind, with
a set of characters picked for a variety of "types" and once the footage is shot there is "editing" for the effect they wish
to achieve to get the ratings they want.

See the article at TV Guide online link below.

I haven't been able to find anything on the internet about Hester's lawsuit or when (if) the series will be coming back.

We can SPECULATE about A&E WANTING to get it running (a revenue builder) but is anything actually happening. It's been 3 months now I think since the story broke.

or perhaps there is something in Mike's contract w/ SWNY that restricts it.

And that would fall under #2 above and if that was true it wouldn't take much for someone to say "Sorry, our contract doesn't allow that."

If I were the producers I wouldn't allow many interviews with them....no telling what info might slip out.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Jackpot ! Jackpot in the Safe ?

I haven't looked at this thread for a LONG time so thought I would just post here for a moment.
It doesn't bump it to the top of the list because it was locked there a long time ago by the former owner of the forum....DREW.

Come August, 2013 it will be two years since I bought this one, and off hand I can only think of one other that was similar in quality and that was in May, 2012, almost a year ago.

A lot has happened in the biz since this good locker was bought...primarily the onslaught (and wave after wave) of new buyers because of the tv shows.

Currently in 2013 I have not bought a single locker and have hardly even bid on any. Prices too high, quality lower than I want, etc etc.  But PICKING has been good !

Meanwhile, what's the latest on getting Mike from Storage Wars New York on Utah radio ?

I guess the following is true:

1) an invitation wasn't extended to Mike.
2) an invitation was extended but not accepted.
3) an invitation was extended and accepted but we never heard anything about the broadcast (or upcoming broadcast)

Flea Markets / Re: How often do you sell at a flea market?
« on: March 08, 2013, 06:44:31 PM »
im just the opposite , i bring nothing but crap to the market and sell all the junk you would probably throw out

A fellow flea seller (and former auction buyer) once told me..."You throw away more than I buy."  To my credit I was only throwing away a certain amount; much of it went to Goodwill because I didn't want to deal with it. Also, I SOLD that kind of stuff CHEAP to that fellow and several other sellers when they were around to buy it.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: How do you sell art?
« on: March 08, 2013, 03:03:43 PM »
I'm finding expensive art to be hard to get rid of.

We should ALL have it that tough!  Time will prove an ally in your cause to get the value out of them.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: A TRUE "Mystery" Locker !
« on: March 08, 2013, 02:08:16 PM »
Before I could get to the empty "butane" buyer today at an auction, someone approached me and told me that he had revealed they were all empty. Was glad I got that news second hand as it made it easier for me to talk to him.

I asked him if he was able to salvage it and he said he had to take them ALL to the hazardous waste facility and got NO MONEY for them.

Recyclers wouldn't take them apparently because of what they used to contain. I thought he could have cut off the tops or just punched holes in the side to show they were empty, but apparently not.

So a total loss for him, but better him than me if I had gotten it for the $100 I was willing to bid for a mystery locker.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #3...March, 2013
« on: March 08, 2013, 01:48:34 PM »
I went to one of 5 possible auctions today because it was the closest and often has good lockers. It did have one good locker.

It also had 50 people....40 of whom were new and got most of the lockers at double their worth.  The 10 x 20 that was last looked very good and I thought (based on earlier buys that went for incredible prices) that it would go for $1700 to $2200). It went to a regular who paid $2300. If the 10 or so boxes have great stuff in them he will make money. The big stuff would only pan out at around $800 or so.

Three of the 5 lockers there were 5 x 5s and went in the $150 to $300 range. One I remember had two bikes ($75 each new) and one box and one bag. Went for $250.  A 10 x 10 (not full) went for $800. Unbelieveable, but true.

Nope, this biz is going nowhere for me in CA. Hopefully other states are in better shape.

Meanwhile, I'll keep picking one item at a time.

At several flea markets in my area there is a fellow who has a GOING operation and there would be no taking it away from him.

For those vendors who don't have their own tables, he rents them. They are the kind with the aluminum A-frame lets and a piece plywood (maybe 2' x 6') for the top. I think the gets $5 a table and probably gives them 4 for $15 or something. He delivers them and the vendor sets them up. He picks them up at the end of the day.

He ALSO rents canopies. He gets $10 for one or $15 for two.

What a money maker for this guy. He has a big pickup pulling maybe a 16 to 20 foot trailer FULL of canopies and table parts.  He has a vendor audience of maybe 200 possibles, but I think a fair number have their own canopies/tables.

I couldn't see renting from this guy on a regular basis if you were a committed....regular seller, but he's been doing it for years.

At virtually "all" the flea markets in my immediate area the vendors bring their own tables ?

How do fleas do it in your area?
