The article below is from the following link:
gatewaystorage.net/7-things-to-know-before-renting-a-storage-unit.html

REMEMBER THAT SECURITY GATES AND PADLOCKS DON'T NECESSARILY STOP BURGLARIES FROM HAPPENING
Studies show that most self-storage burglaries are the result of an "inside job" by criminals masquerading as customers. Traditionally, burglars rent a storage unit just like you're about to do, then wait for an opportune time to go to work.

Once inside, they will usually cut a number or padlocks with bolt cutters, take what they want from unsuspecting customers under the nose of an unsuspecting manager, then replace the locks they cut with their own so they can access the burglarized units again at a later date, if needed, and the burglar is able to enter the property through the security gate with his confidential gate code, just like any other customer can do.

So what can you do to avoid a nightmare like this? FIrst, ask each storage facility you talk to if they allow their customers to use padlocks or if they are using the newer generation "cylinder locks" which have no exposed hasp to be cut by bolt cutters.

Also, check to see if the facility you are talking to has installed alarms on each and every door in their facility so they can know the exact time of day that every storage unit is accessed. To de-activate the alarm on a unit, the customer keys in their personal passcode. If an unauthorized entry occurs, the alarm will sound, immediately identifying which unit has been entered.

Most facilities these days have at least a few video cameras on the site. Make sure that the facility you rent from has more than just a few, and that their cameras are covering as much of the property as possible. Finally, make sure that they are digitally recording the video 24 hours a day.

Asking questions regarding these matters will tell you a lot about each facility's commitment to your peace of mind. If your questions are not answered sufficiently, you may be better off looking elsewhere.

I had never heard of this person before her stuff was lost at auction to Nabila, but I decided to explore her life a bit.

This link shows a screen capture of a facebook note she made on Feb 21, 2013.  When I looked at her Facebook page I couldn't find it, but might have just missed it. I can't imagine she would have deleted it (if even possible) since her posting look like those of a true nut-case...IMHO !

Flea Markets / What days of the week do your flea markets operate?
« on: March 08, 2013, 08:48:22 AM »
In my area there are flea markets that are:

1) open on Sunday and Monday only
2) open on Wednesday and Thursday only
3) open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday only
4) open on Saturday and Sunday only

As you can see, one could sell 4 days a week if one wanted to, and certainly it is possible to go SHOPPING four days a week.

Go out another 50 to 90 miles and that process is repeated.

Flea Markets / How often do you sell at a flea market?
« on: March 08, 2013, 08:42:57 AM »
Aside from Clist and eBay the flea market is my main outlet so I sell there frequently....about 48 out of 52 weekends a year.

I sell mostly collectibles, but some everyday items too. Lately I have been getting some "imports" (Made in China) in bulk and am trying them out as well. I don't sell any furniture larger than a baby's high chair, so chests of drawers, mattresses, etc are out, as are pots and pans unless they expensive ones....old burned ones go to the dump or Goodwill.

When was the last time you sold an iron with a burned surface? I see them at my flea but I don't know why.

The Lounge / What’s the price of gasoline in your area?
« on: March 07, 2013, 03:24:17 PM »
A few days ago in my area it was at $4.05. Today it is $3.99.  Supposed to get near $5 by summer.

Refinery problems, shortages, state taxes, summer blends ....and of course....GREED. The oil companies have been showing 30 billion profit a quarter of late (if I remember the news articles correctly).

Flea Markets / Does your flea market charge buyers an entrance fee ?
« on: March 07, 2013, 03:18:01 PM »
One flea market did that a few years ago and about drove the market into the ground and switched back to free.

On the other hand there are several big flea markets within 90 miles that STILL do it and get away with it. One of them is in Alameda, CA.

For me it's some medical items which aren't covered by insurance.

In my area several of them will put out cookies or donuts and bottled water. Guess they think the way to the buyer's wallet is through the stomach?
