General Storage Auction Talk / Re: What i sthe average cost you spend
« on: October 22, 2011, 11:48:50 AM »
My extra expenses being:
$89 per month for my locker (which is now closed)
20 - 60 in gas per month
$50 per month on dump runs (it helps when you got someone who will pick it all up for $50 :) )
around $15 - $25 in packaging, handling and shipping a month
Labor expenses (this reawlly depends, I usually hire by the day and pay $10 an hour for just loading, hauling, and unloading). Never had to pay more than 4 hours in a given day, and no more than 25 hours in the week.

Car seats, no, at least in my area. Most of them are being stamped for not to be re-sold period. Cribs can be iffy. But strollers, changing tables, play pens, and high chairs is what I was mostly referring to.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Wife got her first one today

Not bad, your wife did well, she just made you a good profit. Especially if the glass top for the table is in there. Golf Clubs alone should get you from anywhere from half your money back to a slight profit, depending on if people in your area are buying golf clubs. Bag looks shocked though. Cheers

A good example taht everyone I am sure saw, was the last Storage Wars that played the other night. The one with the containers. PODS uses a differnt kinds of container, but with that you can get an idea.

I will add about the mattresses and non working appliances. You can take apart the mattresses and throw away all the cushioning and take the coils to a scrap yard. It does not pay much, not really worth my time, but I have a partner that will take them off my hands, and that is what he does with them. Same thing for non working appliances. You can find people who will buy them off that fix them up and sale them. Or you can take it yet again to the scrap yard.

Word. Well i mean how much more do tenants pay

Depends on who you use (PODS, Smart Box, PackRat and so many more), what type of storage or moving you need, and size.

But to give you an idea, in my area, renting a 12 (12 x 8 x8) foot container that will be stored in their facility will run 150 per month plus an initial fee of $70 for delivery. Now you can have it stored on your property, which would be lower, or they can help you move your stuff to your new house, which would cost more. You have to schedule with them on what days they can be dropped off and what days they can be picked back up.

BigBizz.....

Can you explain to me your use of the word "word" at the beginning of some of your posts ?

I've never seen this before and don't understand its use. Is it a regional expression? Is it something used by a generation younger than myself?

Thanks for enlightening me.  ;D

Its a younger generation type thing, kinda of like saying, "really! cool" "Badass" "awesome" and the like, think you get the picture :)

My dad and I will be going to our first storage auction this Saturday. We live in rural NC and the auction will be held here. We discussed that it might be more advantageous to travel to more populated areas, but still in NC (i.e. Raleigh, Charlotte). I wanted to ask the veterans if they have had better luck in urban areas than in rural areas. It seems that urban areas would have better stuff since the people there have convenient access to bigger, better stores. I would appreciate anyone's advice.
 Thanks - Melissa

Not necessarily true. But with a small town you are almost gurantee to run into more than one whale. But in a populated location, you may not have any bidding against you. As far as valuables, it can go either way. Also keep in mind, the rich and well to do are starting to move out of the city and into the rural areas.

It varies, just like any other auction. If you already gotten your feet wet, and you got a feel on how to get rid of the inventory, then hit up a pod auction, but bring 5 - 10 grand with you. Not saying all POD Containers will be high. Some are sold off for a few hundred, then some will rake in 3 - 4 grand. And there is still profit to be gained.

148
Must agree, you will get lockers like that, that you end up walking away and still really wanting it.

lol, nice,

Sounds like you have a very strong case. And I know I wish you luck in taking care of all this, and please keep us informed.
