New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Attending first auction tomorrow
« on: December 29, 2011, 09:47:38 PM »
Not that we are ready to buy a vehicle for this, but my wife and I were debating the merits of a truck vs. a cargo van.

I'm curious what led you to get a van over a truck. Also, if you could, what model did you buy?

Thanks.

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: Why don't I ever find these units...
« on: December 29, 2011, 09:38:57 PM »
Keeping the cash would be illegal in this scenario, but if we're being honest here, I would probably skim some of the cash, then get the proper people notified.

Doesn't seem like this came from an auction, though.

Hate to correct you, but that's actually on History. That said, I do believe History and A&E are part of the same family of networks.

On a similar note, I saw an ad for a new Pawn Stars "night shift" show. The store is open 24 hours and it looks like we'll be getting episodes with the overnight crew.

Merry Christmas to everyone in the forum-verse.

Let's all make 2012 a banner year, make some money and (hopefully) have some fun doing it!!

I got hit with this once and just "refreshed" and that worked for me. It didn't double post or anything, so you guys might try this until a fix is in place.

Not a bad idea, but I think it's a little late.

Some of you may be able to do F2F swaps, but shipping at this point would be an issue.

Maybe next year!!!

If you can consistantly hit those kinds of numbers, those are the kinds of small "wins" that add up to a decent result over the course of the year.

Keep it up!!

The Lounge / Re: Buying Magic: The Gathering cards
« on: December 19, 2011, 01:33:35 PM »
I know I have some old cards somewhere, some that were fairly cool and I suspect now have some value. Of course, I can never find those... the only ones I seem to come across are the commons.

Then again, they may have some value, too, considering age and such.

It'll be a little while before I start digging around for them,  but this thread has me thinking about them again.

As for that guys location near a big store...not sure what they were thinking.  Bad idea IMO.

I'm not sure I agree with that. That area already draws consumers who are interested in shopping in that kind of store, so you'll have customers who go for the giant one, but will walk over to check out the new one.

Around here, we have a Salvation Army right next to a Goodwill. The Goodwill is better and probably draws more customers, but most people will browse both stores.

I dont like the no phones or no smoking rule. And before yall start, I smoke away from the crowds. I am a considerate smoker.

Ditto. Though I try to smoke outside the gates before the auction starts and not have to worry about it during the auction.

We only need a few places to be smacked with fraud charges for the others to start cleaning up their acts.

If you would be so kind, I'm curious where this happened and whether the facility was an independent or a chain.

I have an "adult newsstand" in my area. I keep meaning to see if they buy pre-owned porn dvds.

I do know that dvdempire.com will buy pre-owned dvds. They probably low-ball everything, but any cash you can get is better than trashing them.

How many of you ever imagined you would be discussing how to sell porn??   :P

Storage Facilities / Re: Why do storage companys charge tax
« on: December 15, 2011, 08:01:20 PM »
Better yet why do they charge you tax every month to rent a locker ?

I hate to say it, but every single sales tax question is going to be state specific. Might be best for all of us to study the sales tax codes in each of our respective states, especially as small business operators.

I knew the California code pretty well when I was living there, and now have to re-learn the Texas laws.

So, my suggestion is to study up and, when asking questions, be sure to include the state you're in. Might even want to put the question in the regional forums.

This happens all the time to me as well. The site I use that is like CL  the site tells people not to support those who buy at storage auctions in there classified ads and to always ask where the item was bought.

Curious, does the site explain why they don't want people supporting storage buyers??

Also, what do you tell your customers when they ask where you got such & such items??

bwd, thanks for the repost. If I were in the area, I would totally check that out. The scale alone might make it worth the time.
