eBay / Re: Suspicious bidding
« on: October 21, 2013, 03:42:05 PM »
You are right, they did anonymize(sp?) it, but one person bidding will have the same anonymous id made up from 2 random characters in their username with stars/asterisks in between. and it will be the same name with their feedback score next to it, so you will not know who they are specifically but you can see how many times they bid and what they bid on from a combination of their anonymous name and feedback score. see pic attached

Garage Sales / Re: How much traffic do you get to your yard/garage sales?
« on: October 21, 2013, 01:10:34 PM »
Yeah, location and space seem to be key as well, fortunately I am in an area of town that is considered nicer and I am starting to develop a reputation. I hear of other peole in town only getting 20-30 people come by. That would suck  :(

Craigslist / Re: Do you put a map in your Craigslist ad?
« on: October 21, 2013, 01:07:39 PM »
I do, but it is because I am over an hour away from the geographic area covered by the nearest craigslist, so I put the map with the pinpont just on the city I live in. It doesn't help me much, because most people aren't willing to drive to where I am to pick it up and noone local where I live checks craigslist. So I rarely even use craigslist.

Garage Sales / How much traffic do you get to your yard/garage sales?
« on: October 21, 2013, 11:10:44 AM »
Just curious what other people see, from my guestimate I get about 200-300 people come through my sale on a Saturday. I have also found sometimes it is not as much about what you have as about how many people you can get to come through. If 200 people spend $5 thats a grand.  8)

Garage Sales / Re: What's the most you've ever made at a garage sale?
« on: October 21, 2013, 11:08:07 AM »
Best was $2600 each at 2 different sales about a month apart with contents from the same units, mostly tools. average about $800 - $1000 per sale had about 6 sales in the past year.

Unfortunately where I live, there is no regular flea market. They do hold a community yard sale /flea market twice a year at the fairgrounds. You get your first indoor 10x10 space free, and each additional 10x10 space is $5. It is just 1 day on Saturday from 7-2 with setup on Friday. I tend to make more at my own yardsales though then I do at those sales and I do not have to haul all of my things down there.

Chapter 1. It's not hoarding...if you plan to sell it.

Chapter 2. There's gold in every storage unit...that you didn't win.

I like Chapter 2.

Chapeter 3. Acquiring a Hazmat Suit  :D

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: Tila Tequila...say it isn't so !

They are resorting to spamming other sites because their forum is actually pretty lame. Other than an occasional newbie posting an introduction or people posting sob stories to win their over a year old $200 startup fund contest. The only ones posting anything are the moderators and it is just reviving old post saying stuff like "good find, keep us updated :-)" It does not contain any real useful info, I am glad I found this forum, because if nothing else, it is entertaining  :)

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: James bond sub car sold at auction

Damn, Talk about return on investment, $100 to 550,000 pounds, thats near a million dollars. If only we all could be so lucky. I bet he's glad he held onto it, and didn't sell it right away.

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: Round Two Goes To Dave Hester
« on: October 18, 2013, 12:17:29 PM »
I never really liked Dave that much, too big a douche. I am glad that he is exposing that the tv shows sensationalize this business. Can you d=find valuable stuff in lockers? Yes Is every unit gonna be profitable? Hell no, well they can be if you don't buy the unprofitable ones ;-) I had been wanting to start attending storage auctions long before the show came out. My wife was never on board. Then she watched Storage Wars one week while I was on travel for work, when I came home she said lets do it. I watched a few episodes of the show and I was exited and hooked. I have bought about 15 lockers since then, some only turned a little profit, some huge profits, but all would have been losers if I paid the amounts they seem to be paying on the show. I watched a few episodes again and was shocked by the amounts they were paying for these lockers $3000- $10000 and then they go and start throwing out what they think they are worth.  :D
I am sorry but if I bought a locker for $10000 and sold the contents for $11000-$12000, I would call that a loss, not a win, time, hired help, gas, what not, I'll stick with my lower priced lockers with less work and a quicker return on investment, if I buy 4 lockers for $500 each and make $500 on each one that is $2000 profit with less time effort and work, oh yeah I also have the other $8000 still to buy other lockers with.
Sorry for the book, I need to learn to be more concise.  :(

Story isn't that exciting, but it was posted as "News", My only comment is I am glad I have never been to a storage auction with 300-400 people in attendance, what a nightmare.  :-\

Craigslist / Re: Best Craigslist ad ever
« on: October 18, 2013, 10:59:32 AM »
i get all these clowns comming to look at it telling me they are going to have to cut the rust off, do all this bondo, do all this work on it.

I agree; Its like they think you don't notice the problems and hadn't considered those when pricing it. I think its especially funny when they are talking about doing stuff that costs thousands more than the car is even worth in excellent condition. Duh thats why it is only $600

I recently sold my Grand Caravan, it had a few dents and dings which I took into consideration when pricing it. The guy who bought asks me to go lower because he will have to take out the dents and dings, I mean come on its a 9 year old minivan, are you really going to repair those dents and dings.

Craigslist / Re: Real or not real
« on: October 17, 2013, 11:12:38 AM »
Real or not, I say keep personal info out of the sale. Period. I see so many people on our local facebook selling groups throwing out sob stories about how they need to sell fast to pay for [Insert whatever you want here]. Then the next day they are looking to buy or asking for a new Iphone or video game system. Just irritates me. >:(

I thought this was pretty humurous, don't know if it qualifies as actual news.
