Suggestion Center / Re: Down Time

I also 86'd the Google Translate.

I guess the amount of usage by people in the former USSR and Norway, Italy, etc didn't warrant the need for translation.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #2...February, 2013

I went to a piece-by-piece auction recently (happens about once a month or two months) and it was a total waste of time. Only had about 8 lkrs and each was just trash....didn't help that 3 of the eight were "manager" lkrs they had put together of bigger items that had been abandoned (not liened).

At lease one poster here (some time ago) commented he found this kind of auction no good as people ended up paying retail for items. That certainly happens, but it's just like the regular storage auctions....people there make mistakes too and it affects those of us who are doing this on a regular basis and for a long time.

I HAVE bought items at a piece-by-piece where I have broken even, maybe lost a few bucks, AND have also made a KILLING. For instance, I might buy something for $15 thinking I could get $30 to $45 (bread and butter sales) and ended up getting $20 or maybe even $15 OR $10.  It happens, just like the full lkr sales.

On the other hand I've also bought an item for $5 and sold it for $185. Bought something for $50 and sold it for $185. So, it's just a matter of trying to buy smart, but it doesn't always work out that way.

Another month with poor quality, newbies paying rediculous prices, and auctioneers running scams to make a buck!!

The last line certainly sums it up !  The up and down "wave' of all the elements you list continues to haunt us.
The scam by the auctioneer was laughable and good that 'he' 'bought' the lkr !

Here's the only quad I've gotten in nine years.

Those are great finds ... !

Here's a pic of an "antique" blanket chest I thought would bring over $100...sold it at $50.

I haven't even made a delivery in several years, and I'm happy to say those that I have made have been without pain.  ;D

Also, what kinds of limitations if any do you put on deliveries?

You can bet that these days most of the answers to this question will have something to do with the tv shows, but maybe some folks who started doing auctions BEFORE the tv shows will respond too.  It would be nice if the more than 2,900 hundred members who have NEVER posted would say hello.

As for me, I went to my first auction looking for a piece of electronic equipment and not knowing they sold the whole locker as one unit ! (newbie !).  Didn't find what I was looking for, but found something much better and over 9 years and around 400 lockers bought it's been a great trip.

Craigslist / Re: CL iPad app
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:01:59 PM »
I've had $50 on my iTunes account for over a year so figured it wouldn't be so bad to spend the $1.08 on the pay version of the CL App.   I'll let you know how it works.......

If I rememer our talks about the CList app from months ago you were using it for POSTING ads. That's something I don't do so I haven't used the app since the beginning. I loaded it and then unloaded it.

When I want to look something up on Clist on the iPad I just use Safari and call it up as I would at home on my PC (not the iPad).

I guess if you are posting with the app I can understand your frustration with it, and there's nothing worse than them changing it all the time and THEN botching it on top of that.

*****

The eBay app is great on the iPad (IMO), but again I don't post from the iPad. It's invaluable when out in the field for doing research on item values.

I'll start this one with three picks of a dollhouse I got in May, 2012.  Took five months to sell it on eBay but I got $375 for it. It came out of a $1,900 locker. I'll put the pics in three separate posts...should prevent it from loading to slowly.

Here's pic 1.

The Treasure Chest / Re: $30 Best Buy Gift Card!

VIP room?     I missed that door.

See reply #29 just above. It explains why you might not have seen the section area and the 6 or so threads inside it.

If your original Alias screen name was combined with Alias300 count I think you would be in. Maybe Travis can fix that, though Drew didn't seem able to.

The VIP room is sort of a general category, you can talk about anything in there. No need to put in sub-categories.  ;)

You forgot to mention that only posters with 500 or more posts can access it when they are online (signed in).

I have looked at it. So far two of the possibly 10 people who can access it have done so. I'm not one of them.  ;D

I've never bought any as my requirements are that they have the keys and I can open the car with them !

You can vote but don't necessarily have to post a comment, though the comments are really the meat of the matter.
