If you want to get their attention, give the local TV station or newspaper a call!!

No that long ago in Seattle, someone found medical records in a dumpster. The TV station played that for a couple of days.

Avelanch,

If your in the area there is an auction in Bonney Lake tomorrow.

I'm not going for a couple of reasons.

1.) A Saturday...

2.) It is a sealed bid - open the door, the walk by, write your bid on a piece of paper and PRAY.

When you get in the area, let me know.

Avelanch,

Welcome to the forum. This is a great site and you will find it is VERY informative.

It looks like we are going to be neighbors! I live on the NW corner of Lake Tapps (no, not on the lake).

I look forward to comparing notes. I have not done much at all. Went to a couple and bought one and and done very good.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: What to do Office Furniture?

LaWaughn,

I hope I am wrong but I just wanted to bring this to your attention. I would hate to have you sell them something their not getting. The last thing you need is to get a buyers attorney on your case.

I have some contacts in the furniture business in my day job and I am somewhat familiar with the construction. I would highly recommend that you look this furniture over VERY GOOD. Unless you have purchased from a manufacture that went out of business and you were able to see some raw goods, you could possible have MDF with a veneer on it. Look very carefully for end grain on the wood. The drawer fronts may be real wood. The side panels of the drawer pedestals should have end grain. Also, the inside of the peds should be wood grain and the underside of the top should have matching glue up lines as the top.

If I am out of line, I apologize.

I wanted to give everyone an update on this car locker that I bought.

I sold the car on Craig s List for $1900.00. I had to jump thru a few hoops to get the paperwork but as you can see was worth it. I sold it to a guy in BC, Canada. He is was going to use it mostly parts for 2 cars he is working on. He paid me $400.00 to deliver it and it cost me $120.00 in gas. I spent the day delivering it.

I sold some of the paint guns and the small compressor of $700.00. I still have a few left to sell.

I had a good bite on the motorcycle but it went south. I will re-list it on CL and lower the price.

I neglected to list the engine hoist so that is on the short list of to do.

I will start looking for another auction to go to.

Well, I went to my second SS auction on Tuesday and bought my first lkr. It was a 10 x 30. I went to just get the lay of the land, prices, number of people, and what was there to see. Looked like about 45 to 50 people with 6 lockers available.

The first one was some rattan furniture, 2 mattress/box springs, boxes, end table and couple of bags. Sold for $1550.00

The second one was the one I bought. You could see about all there was to see from the door. A 1977 Kawasaki 650 motorcycle with the head lite missing gauges broken up. I found a box of parts as I started moving the stuff out. I looked like everything I need to put it back together was there.

The main attraction is a 64 El Camino in primer. It is stripped of everything and I mean everything: moldings, dash, wiring, gauges, windshield, back glass, motor, seats, core support, doors, hood, fenders, and inter-fender wells. After the buy, I found all of the glass in the bed. A ton of the chrome trim and emblems. It has rally wheels with 2 holding air and 2 flat. In summary, I think everything is there to put it back together with the exception of fenders, doors, hood, and tail gate. The motor was on a wooden motor stand, 327 I think. The transmission and bumpers were under the car. Six more wheels and 4 additional tires.

There was a metal worktable with the seats setting on top with a bunch of boxes under it. The boxes had auto paint and misc reducers/thinners.

There was a box with a couple of paint guns out the top. After the buy, there were a total of 8 and 3 of those are new in the box. Only one cheep o gun.

A little air compressor connected to a hose reel with hose and another new 1/4" air hose still wrapped up.

An older floor jack and a cherry picker. I sold the floor jack for $30.00 before I left for the day.

I paid $500.00 for the locker. Everyone said it was the deal of the day and I would definitely agree!!! I should have my cost back after selling the paint guns.

The 3rd locker was newer motorcycle, it was at the far end of the lkr so I could not see what it was plus I knew I was done for the day. It also had a solid door hutch of some type and a wood chainsaw carving. Sold for $275.00.

The fourth lkr had a Chev pickup box and four doors and rear hatch from an Explorer. Some boxes, a couple pieces of furniture, some tires, and no sure what else. Sold for $550.

The fifth had all of the walls lined with plastic shelves and a row down the middle. The shelves were about 2/3rd full with boxes. There were some tires and a couple cases of Red Bull. Sold for $975. This was bought by the same guy that bought the rattan furniture. I talked to him last night and a lot of the boxes had business records in them. He was not real happy

I know there was six but I can't remember the other one, sorry.

I will keep you advised as I sell my lkr.

I would like to thank everyone for their response.

An Update… To answer a couple of the questions. The groups were 15 to 20 and there were 3 groups that I know of that went thru. It was for sure a low budget event. There was ONE guy showing the lkrs; he would get done and then go again. I had a chance to talk with him and he was a friend of the owner. The bids were turned in to one person in the office.
I called and they gave me the bids, after they checked to see that I did in fact bid on them. I bid to see if I was anywhere close to what they may go for. I knew I would not get any of them just by the number of people being there.

Locker 1. Vanity with no top, car top carrier, Pepsi machine without a compressor, and a 2 door cooler of some sort. Sold for $82.00

Locker 2. Dishwasher, clothes, tool box, coffee can with some wrenches, dresser, stuffed chair, boxes, totes yards tools; shovels, elect blower, elect trimmer, elect chainsaw, mower, totes, 2 camping stoves  Sold for $616.00

Locker 3. Several 5 gal buckets of paint, chair, rug, several boxes Sold for $276.00
Locker 4 Soft bow case, fishing pole, lead weight and molds, pull golf cart, mower, totes, chest of drawers, boxes, blower, old style chest. Sold for $1127.00

Locker 5. Can’t remember that one at all (the mind is the second thing to go!) Sold for $705.00.

To sum it up it was an experience, I was not even close on pricing. I will not be going back there.

Again, thanks for the response.

West / First Sealer SS Auction
« on: April 11, 2011, 01:19:04 AM »
Went to my first ss auction.

It worked as below...

Hours 10:00 to 4:00 on a SUNDAY
5 lockers
They walk you thru the lockers and you turn in you bid.
They would take a group every half an hour or so.
They call to tell you if you win.
End of story...

A couple of issues come to mind.

There is no opening the locker once and your through with it. Go or no go.
IF you happen to win the bid, you have no option of securing it from staff with keys. They used a red lock and I noticed some lockers with just a red lock and some with 2 locks. (red and other)

When I turned in my bids, 10 or 15 minutes after walking thru, in the office. There was no other bidders around, just a group out looking at the lockers.  The manager, I beleive, opened it up and looked it over, did not say anything. I ask a couple of questions and left.

Also, they do not have a process of bidders to find out who won or better yet what the winning bid was.

Is this how a sealed bid would work?

Thanks in Advance with any comments that may set me staight.
