I have a bunch of crap.......ummm.....I mean undiscovered treasures...... ;D that I have been storing in my basement.  Most of this are things that have been through a couple of sales or just leftover items from lockers that I sold all the good stuff off long ago.

I am planning to have a garage sale at the end of March or in April, depending on weather, and I am going to put out boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff, basically fill up the yard, and I am going to price EVERYTHING for a dollar.  Anything left over after the sale is going to Goodwill.  I've never tried one of these before, but I'm hoping to generate some final bit of cash out of the stuff before I make it go away!

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Disney Items In Lockers

Most of the Disney stuff I have found is newer and mass produced and it's hard to give it away......sells for a couple of bucks at a garage sale.  I did have an old Annette Funicello bear with all the tags and stickers and I got a whopping 30 bucks out of it.  I've sold a couple of Mickey Mouse phones, but they were newer and didn't go for a lot.

One funny thing about these and most other "collectibles"......if it says "collectible" on it......it's probably not!  LOL

This must take up a lot of your time.....now not only do you still have to go to auctions and do clean out and move and sell stuff, but you probably have show obligations and all kinds of people contacting you!

Now I have a college kid that works on commission for the items he sells for me. This way he deals with everything and posts items on his own terms.

I've been doing something similar for about four years now.  I've got three different people I use to sell my ebay items depending on what it is.....one guy is good for just throwing up volumes of stuff, but he doesn't research well or write great ads.......but he moves a lot of cheaper items fast.  My main girl takes her time, researches stuff, and usually get's me top dollar on my stuff.  Then I have another girl that I give a few items to......mainly if I have my main girl too backed up.

But a question for you......what kind of percentage do you pay your college kid, and is he reliable?  I went through a lot of people before I found some reliable ones I could trust and that actually get the stuff sold.  Thanks.

His cousin works for him cleaning out the units. You'd know that if you watched the show!  :P

LOL........it's a show!  Just wondered if they might have some guys that come help them out to get the bulk out or if they still move everything by themselves.........plus, SOME of us are out buying and selling and making money and can't watch unlimited amounts of reality tv......we're busy dealing with our own reality!   ;)

BTW.....got a bunch recorded but only had time to watch one so far.....I'll get to it....been very busy lately!

Public Run has been this week.  Yesterday was a big waste of time.  I don't know for sure, but like someone else said, I think the New York show has brought some more future millionaires (cough, cough) out of the woodwork.

Prices are down on some lockers, but they are full of garbage......one guy is buying up a ton of $1-$50 lockers, as many as he can get.  Last month he did that too, and he told me that after he paid for diesel for his big truck and paid dump fees, he still lost money.  Usually, when it looks like junk......it's junk.  Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, but basing your business model on "getting lucky" is a poor business model in my opinion.

On the brighter side, a friend of mine went on another run happening at the same time and scored a nice little unit with a bunch of tools and stuff for only $35 and he should probably come out with around $400........the downside being I don't get to share in any of that!  :-[

I still think that the overall quality of the lockers has declined dramatically over the last couple of years.  Too many storage locker renters watching the show and either not putting their best stuff in the lockers or pulling it out before they get locked out.

Doing a lot better picking right now.....and have bought a couple of nice estates lately.  I'll keep doing a little bit of everything to keep the cash flowing!

This is a pretty cool thread!   8)

So, what's the coolest thing you think you've ever found in a storage unit?

What's the most you've ever made on a single locker.......any of those 40-50k lockers that we all hear rumors about?

Do you still move most of the stuff yourselves or do you hire a bunch of guys to give you a hand?

Thanks!

I love getting Harley parts and clothing!  Not too long ago, I got a springer front end and handlebars and did very well.  I have had lots of jackets, various clothing, and even a brand new pair of boots in the box...the fancy ones the Harley logo branded in the leather with square toes and the buckles on the side!  First guy that showed up wanted them bad, but try as he might to shove his foot in there, they were about a half a size too small.  He was bummed.  I wasn't......another guy snatched them up later the same day.   Great stuff to have.

Huh? How do you know it's a big block?
Phil

Look closely at the heads....the valves are staggered up and down.....it's a big block chevy.  Small block would be a lot skinnier and the valves would all line up.  Also, the valve covers have more hold down bolts than a small block, and the valve covers are a lot wider....the chrome valve covers shown are definitely for a big block also.

The big "if" is if that engine is any good.  You can't tell from that picture.  IF the engine is good, and IF all those speed parts are in those boxes, that was not a bad purchase.  But, that's a lot of money to lay out there on a big IF!

That engine is a big block........if the speed equipment is in the boxes and the block and heads are good....always the big 'if", potentially somebody just made a lot of money!  Too bad we can't get a follow up like on the tv shows!

Oh no, I'm not looking for free......I will pay a fair price for decent stuff.  I have a number of antique pieces now, and have sold quite a few the last couple of months.  I just picked up a load today, and I have some really unique pieces for sale right now.  I'm always looking for good quality and antique furniture though.  The problem is, I can't drive down to Seattle for one item and make it pay.....but if I can get some really nice pieces to where it's worth it....I'm there!  Thanks.

He forgot to mention it's one of those little dual rotor jobs about 13" long! :D

That's about as good as Barter Kings trading $300 worth of diving gear up to a $20,000.00 plane........I wish I could trade up 3-5K at a time using some fuzzy logic of why the other party will have a better life by trading for something worth WAY less than their item........ :-[

I'm pretty sure most of us are buying fewer storage units than we used to!
