General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Mattresses
« on: April 25, 2012, 05:43:08 PM »
Ok still working had to get some ebay stuff listed and boxed to make room for the creative side.

Here we go.

Used an old sheet (from locker) ripped it into strips to tie the springs together, added some twine. The green fill was out of my craft supply. Paper wire unwrapped. Thinking about adding some buttons to it.

Have another idea for the crib springs. For another day.

@ Craig have the wire cutters  (We build rabbit cages  ;) )

The wire around this thing was at least 1/4 " thick.  :o  well guess you call that steal rod...

Have the wreath together need to add a little bit more to make it shabby chic (thanks for not calling me out on previous miss spell).

Will post a picture if my husband is honest and says it looks good....  Not his style (shabby) So we will see.

Love to see what you come up with Craig.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: sealed bid auction...

On the picture issue Standard practice in our area, they don't email them though.

Nice about getting the pictures a head of time can see if worth your time. MO

Advice on the sealed bid. We have only been to one, told us at end no waiting.  We did not get a unit either.

After the fact thought about it and decided we bid on too many. Took our seed money divided it up on several units. Question was how many would we have bid on in a regular auction not as many as we turned in.  May have gotten a good one if only one bid. None of the regulars got one either.

So word of advice decide on which units you would like to have and bid what you feel it is worth, your maximum bid if a regular auction.

Feel these kind of auction get the maximum out of the units, no cheap units.  IMO

We could of had one for $2, was an entertainment center, but we scratched it out and no one else bid on it.  ::)

Hey when they send you the pics you could post them here and get ideas on price, granted not from your area.

Hope that helps and good luck.

I usally list between 100 and 150 things a week.

Good grief... Can you say full time. Hopefully I can hit half that many in a month.

Once money clears need to buy a digital scale. Limited to only shipping USPS... No local drops for Fedex or UPS.

Thanks for the encouragement.  :D.

Thanks guys.

@Alloro I must have miss read it. But still did not explain why the amount was wrong.  ::)

But moving on.

@ Matches I know but what a pain. Thought I had proven myself as a seller... LOL

But I should not complain all the items sold and they would have sold for less or not at all at a yard / Flea.

Welcome

39 and retired sounds like you should do well in this business. Luck being part of it...  ;D

No really it takes a lot of time and effort but as you learn gets easier.  Not the physical part.

Do you know where you are going to sell the stuff? Thing the show does not show you.  We started out great had a thrift contact kept us rolling. Then things changed so working on getting rid of current inventory, finding better ways to get rid of it.  ::)

On the Auction Scene Thread sounds like the crowds are slowing, prices still high IMO.

Good Luck and keep us posted on your adventures.

Lottery tickets ( we pick one up every now and then)

We pay our stupid tax...  ;D

Hey Craig just noticed your post # 888 sounds like good #'s to me.  ;)

Some states don't require a unit to be disposed of by auction at all, so if the facility doesn't get a high enough bid, they may see it in their best interests to take possession of the contents themselves.

Like many of these issues, a lot of it will come down to the details of a state's lien laws.

Happens here a lot. Florida... Have not been to one that it was not auctioned off or purchased by facility.
I think it covers them if they don't get any bids on a unit then they can dispose of it after auction.

We have one with reserves we don't even bother to go.  ;) Thank goodness they put it in there ads.

eBay / Re: Finally making it work.

If this is from an eBay sale then you're much better off printing the label on eBay instead of off the PayPal website.

On other threads to cover your A** print from paypal. ??? Because of the address thing. I did double check the addresses. But Ebay had $5.10 for the shipping on a padded envelope, the post office went up to $5.30. I just worry don't want to effect my customers. Still working on that #...  ::)

@ bulldogmom it is worth it sold a pair of Levis for $16. would have been lucky to get $3 at yard / Flea.
My pile is getting smaller. Start small.  ;D.  I am going to go back through the Flea stuff and pull out some to sell on there.

Fun thread!
The visual of money butchering a mattress is hysterical.  Next time just grab a bic and fire that mother up! 8)

OK will add to the fun... The metal frame was 1/4" thick was able to cut a few but a little difficult.. So laid it on the ground and used the ground as leverage then it was a snap... AFV should have been in order.

On the bic side Burn ban... No rain for over a month, for Fl.. that is bad. The gators have even moved on.

bulldogmom~I was going to suggest the springs on the bottom of shoes and try to sell them to the vertically challenged at auctions!  ;D

I resemble that remark.     :D

LOL Bulldog. It is called shabby sheik not ugly....  ;)  but most of it is ugly.  IMO

Spent about an hour pulling off the metal frame holding everything together.  Would have been 30 minutes if I had figured out to cut the metal frame into smaller pieces and just pull out.  ::)

This was a serta mattress so the springs are individually wrapped. ( only a cloth holding them together)  So I have strands of springs. Did cut some out and all my big ideas bounced away.  ;D

If nothing else did not pay to get rid of it and have enough in scrap to cover my time.

Still working on the ideas.... Saw a wreath on etsy with some paper flowers added (ugly) for $30. Too bad they don't have a watch list.  :D

Update / Rant

Went to print labels from Paypal account.... Not the right option for padded envelope Priority, Tried ebay wrong amount.

Paypal wanted a credit card added... Did that... Still could not print labels. So off to the post office.

Finalized last sell printed label today with no problem.

Also holding money until beginning of month.  ???

Last sell was over $40 instant payment.

Three sales under $20 holding until 5-7.... Guess I need to call them. ???

Ok I am done.
