Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #11...November, 2012
« on: November 27, 2012, 08:39:47 PM »
Only a few days left in November, 2012 and it's going to raining cats and a few dogs around here through the next few days...crowd should therefore be BIG !

Three regular auctions tomorrow the 28th and then a piece by piece on Friday.  Picking continues to do well.

Here's another neat...and new....feature...at least I'm pretty sure it is....don't recall seeing it before:

Hello MovieMan
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.

Those two features in red above are great as far as I'm concerned...the easier it is to see the NEW posts or threads, the better.

 :)

Well, it's 2:30 Pacific time as I post this and I see all the color, text options and the smileys....assuming the recent post link shows up when we are logged in now...it would be a pain to have to go in and out of being signed in to see that, so hoping it works...or will work.

Looking good so far !   :)

I would imagine that it will be there but I won't know for sure until the theme/template is installed today. If it isn't there, I'll try to find a mod for it.

Here's a TWEAK that's needed.

At 11 a.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday the 27th if you are logged in the "recent posts" link does not show at the bottom of the page...BUT

if you are not logged in it DOES show up.  Get out the programming guide !

No smileys or other BB updates (color, italics, etc) available yet.

I trust the "recent posts" link which used to be at the bottom of the main page will also return.

Seems like THAT is a "must have" to me....otherwise one would be shopping all over the many topics to find something new that has been posted.

My web designer and I have almost everything planned out and she will be installing the upgrade to version 2.2.2, the new template and the critical modifications on Monday. She will most likely finish installing the non essential modifications on Tuesday.

Hopefully, it will be a seamless transition.

Slowly but surely. And don't call me Shirley ! (no smilies to attach yet)

Other Forms of Selling / eBay Classified Ads....What luck have you had ?
« on: November 26, 2012, 09:12:01 AM »
Does anyone else use the local eBay classified ads?

Some months ago they changed their interface (easy to use and good looking results) and I use it to place bigger items (bulky and $50 and up) BUT.......

I have had NO response to them at all.  The only reason I really use them is THIS.....

It allows you to create a sales flyer with pull-off phone tabs at the bottom.   Yes, I know this is available in some word processing programs, but the fact I can load 8 pictures and quickly create a flyer makes this work for me.

I am just disappointed that no one has ever called and said they are calling based on eBay classifieds. Clist is what gets the calls into me.

I HAVE had people tear off the tabs at an A-Frame sales board I place at my flea market location. That saves me from hauling the bulky item to the flea and serves somewhat the same purpose. I HAVE had sales from that A-frame.

What's your experience (if any) with the FREE eBay classifieds?

EDIT:

Just go to ebayclassifieds.com

The Lounge / Re: Should Stores Be Open On Thanksgiving?
« on: November 22, 2012, 08:06:59 PM »

Obviously the American society wants stores to be open on Thanksgiving or nobody would be out shopping and it would not be economically feasible for stores to be open during the holidays.

Yep, hence my early statement.... "Watch the consumers....they are the ones driving the biz."

But, I take the stance that we all can wait (or should be able to wait) for the day after. They could still give the great prices...there will be many more opportunities before Christmas after all.

Another tradition that is being "abused" is starting Christmas decorating and Christmas music BEFORE Thanksgiving.

A local radio station started non-stop Christmas music days before turkey day. The only result that got from me was switching stations.

Why stop now; how about starting Christmas before Halloween...no, that won't work it would take away from Halloween item sales.

IMO, give it a rest for a day. There is nothing someone is going to go out and buy today that they can't buy tomorrow, or this weekend.

I agree, there is always a tomorrow, but for some reason one of the attractions is getting that "tv" or whatever after waiting in line for a few hours (or even a week) and of course saving some money in the bargain.

I can't think of anything I want that would warrant  the madness....unless it was going to an auction and buying a locker at 2009 prices with only 10 people there...all of whom I know.

Many businesses are "open" 365 days a year and employers always manage to accomodate the needs of their customers and of their employees...to wit:

1) restaurants (even on Thanksgiving)
2) movie theatres
3) health care facilities
4) nursing homes
5) law enforcement
6) fire prevention
7) radio and tv stations (network and locals)
  ) newspapers
9)
10)
11)
...
101)

Regarding the wisdom of selling on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas:

In our society consumption appears to be the name of the game .... where would we at this forum be without the buyers who want the products we are "recycling" ?   ;)

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Hi 2 All!!
« on: November 22, 2012, 12:05:04 PM »
Hi- I'm new to storage auctions. Currently sell on ebay and have sold in flea markets for years. I trade in Gillette razors, Bolex and other 16mm cameras and lenses, Vintage wristwatches and pocket watches.

Welcome!  As you know from the tv shows (if you watch them) you will find a Bolex or a Rolex in every other locker you buy.
Sometimes you'll find them in 90% of the lockers you buy. They are often concealed in the same box that has the dirty clothes or the kitchen pots that have seen hard use. I've even heard of them popping up in the box of bathroom lotions or household cleaning products like Lysol, Tide, etc.  ;D

Should retail stores be open on Thanksgiving? Is it fair to employees/families? Has Black Friday / retailers gone too far?

1) employees are probably getting special pay in some cases.

2) Fair?  There are 12 hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.   They can probably figure something out.

3) Black Thursday?  Watch the consumers....they are the ones driving the biz.

4) Too Far?   I'm not selling today, but I'm going to a flea market, the vendors at which say it has always been a great day
    to sell !
