Social networking can doom job prospects
Companies will hold naughty personal moments against you.

Very true, but there is a huge difference between someones drunkfest pics on Facebook and someones hardship in losing a storage unit due to none payment.  I smell a lawsuit brewing if employers are found to be doing this.

I probably saw 50 lockers before winning my first. Be patient you'll get your chance and come back when you need encouragement, it really helped me when I would come home empty handed.

They may buy items from your locker if they saw something they wanted.  Wayne Blair here in Michigan told me he will do this ifhhe sees something he wants or needs.

Only problem with auctionzip.com is if the facility doesn't use an auctioneer they are not going to be listed on the site.  I know of only 2 facilities in my area that use an auction company.  Most do the auctions themselves.

If you don't want to look in newpapers and such.  Then get the phone book out and call some places.  You can quickly learn what days and how often places do auctions.  They will also call you many a times about new auctions if you register with them.

Well, the places that do sealed bids are on auctionzip.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: do you throw out 5$ incremental bids?
« on: September 29, 2011, 09:25:06 AM »
I don't unless we open with that.  However, one of the regulars that I call Mr. Five does.  He will constantly toss out $5 incremental bids depending if he wants to screw with you or not.  If it's a unit he wants he'll jump the bid in 20s or more.

I will throw out $5 bids if the stuff in the unit is of low quality or quantity so I as to not overpaying for a unit and lose out on potential profit, but the local whale has outbid me everytime.

Two free tips:

1.  Pay your bill, and it won't ever be an issue!

2.  Don't pay rent on a bunch of crap in a storage locker.......get rid of that stuff!

3. Stop storing nasty ass mattresses in your f'ing unit.

Lol found moviemans post after posting. Clears up my misunderstanding.

I don't really think they would fire someone of their mess in a storage unit, unless that mess contains rec drugs or sex toys displayed up in the front of the unit.  I would imagine that stuff would be hide in a box somewhere in the unit. Also last time I checked defaulting on a bill was no grounds for termination. If someone wants to try that I hope they have a damn good lawyer.

Scrapped it for $21 bucks. Could have been better but could have been worse.

I'm lost here. What are you trying to ask? Are you behind on your rent? If not they shouldn't be opening your unit for any reason. If they are doing this, I suggest you find a new storage facility.

I look at exercise equipment as scrap metal.  I alrady have a treadmill and one of those step cycle things that I can't get rid of.  The wife wanted them both and then never uses them........

I think selling exercise machines is like buying storage units, sometimes you have good stuff but no body wants it, even though it's in great condition. Having said that I just sold an exercise bike for 170, and only had to come down $30 from my asking price, which was retail for a used airdyne bike.

2 units so far, and no dump runs.  I just set out my stuff for normal trash day pickup.  I'm not going to stop doing this until someone tells me to stop.  I also have a free dump spot, so anything i get pulls in straight profit.

Not sure where you are acman, but I'm getting 10 cents/lb for steel, 65 cents/lb for aluminum in TN. Get a magnet and estimate what you will get. I'd probably scrap it just to be done with it cause it may be hard to find a buyer plus repair time/cost and hauling it around.

Hence the reason I have already said F it, I'll just scrap it.  Luckily for me the scrap yard by me is a mole away from my house and about 4 from my winning locker.
