Craigslist / cList....is dead!
« on: January 27, 2014, 09:36:17 AM »
Don't know about anyone else, but cList has been DEAD for me for about 4 weeks now. Not a single bite even let alone a sale.

eBay going great though, so thank goodness for the TWO venues.

I always thought it would be a good idea that if you leave someone feedback, they have 30-days to reciprocate or the feedback you left them gets pulled. After all, why should they receive feedback if they're not willing to give it.

Good idea !  It won't happen, but good idea.

Buyers who don't leave feedback is the reason my feedback policy is as follows:

You send me money.
I send you item.
You send me feedback.
I send you feedback.

******

Yes, I know we've talked about this before; use whatever works for you and for whatever feedback philosophy you hold dear to your heart.

Was curious if all your customers get these automated emails with tracking info.

I'm assuming they do as I receive copies of them directly from eBay...you should be too I would think if you checked a radio button to do so. Of course you may not WANT to receive that many.

Once in a rare while I'll get an email from someone who has immediately paid saying "please send me the tracking number"...this is before I've packed it and eBay/PayPal has had the opportunity to send one to them.

I'm surprised how many people still use

Could be, but Windows based pcs still outsell Apples despite the Apples being "elegant". When it comes to computers I use one of each brand and it is nice to have choices when it comes to computers and browsers.

you take 12 pics whether needed or not because it doesn't matter if they are needed, what matters is having the full 12 pictures gives you the full juice you can get from ebays cassini search. and yes i do take pictures and post the full 12 in my listings.

also, movieman you've made a couple comments to me seemingly doubting my ebay numbers or expertise so ill attach a screenshot for you.

That's good proof !  A little short of the quarter million I thought it would be, but still VERY GOOD.  I also commented in past posts that you've come along way from the days several years ago when your hot products were a coin sorter made from mostly wood, and the copper ingots you used to sell on eBay....not to mention the Vietnamese Dong.

All it takes is one good line of products.  Do I remember properly that your net is about 20%.  What does that amount to in gross sales to get that kind of net ?

Alias....

I enjoyed reading your rundown on the problems you were having and especially the IT department's "solution"....unbelievable !

******

Meanwhile, I started thinking more about the problem I was having and did some online research.  I was using Windows 7 and IE 9.

As I recall, this is what the laptop came with when I got it about 3 years ago I think. Whenever, Win 7 came out.

At some point I had upgraded to IE 10 but had some problems with it and went back to IE 9.

******

Now I see that IE 9 is only suitable for Windows XP, so somewhere along the line things apparently got fouled up and I had the problem described in post #1 here.

Sooooo.....

I downloaded IE 10 and NOW I CAN SIGN-IN to eBay again !  There's always an answer, but sometimes figuring it out is a headache.  Nice to know I can fall back on FireFox and I learned some things about it over the last few days, so not a total loss.

Unless you really like internet explorer I'd suggest using firefox instead, some people like chrome i prefer firefox. Lots of sites don't work with IE however. I can't pay my carnote to Hyundai using IE. Paypal also doesn't work with ie for me it tells me it can run script when trying to print labels. I'd recommend just using a new browser

Right now I have both IE and FF active. The only time I need the FF is to sign on to my eBay account. Everything else works in IE.

I'll just let some time go by and see if IE straightens out for eBay sign-in. If it doesn't I won't spend more time trying to figure it out, I'll just use FF.

id recommend using the full 12 pictures or whatever is the max. yeah i agree its probably not necessary and even if the pics are repetitive more pics equals better performance in best match searches

Twelve is the max for THEIR approach but you could put in 50 in html if you wanted to within the text portion of your listing.  When I DO use 20 to 30 pics in the html section I DO use all twelve pics in their section, but look at the next example when 2 pics will do.

An item showing through in a plastic bag. Pic one taken from the front. Pic two taken from the back of the bag where item is described on a white background. Are you going to take 12 pics of that? Nope.

Speaking of which, it's hard for me to imagine you taking 12 pics for that great selling stuff that is bringing in $20K net to you each month on eBay.  ;D

General Storage Auction Talk / New Business Plan for 2014
« on: January 23, 2014, 10:02:47 AM »
Actually, I've been doing this for a few months now, but it's really coming into its own now.

I reduced the number of storage auction lockers I bought in the last 6 months due mainly to the quality of the lockers available in about a 30 mile range. A lot of the lockers I have seen have just been trashy or at the best they were medium quality.

Combine that with relatively high prices for the better lockers and the work it took to clean them out, dump runs etc, I just decided to pretty much give them up.

******

Because I had fewer sales items from "picking" I GAVE UP SELLING AT A FLEA MARKET!

Yes, after 9 years and 10 months, my last flea sales day was  at the end of October, 2013.

I haven't missed that 4 a.m. getting up, getting to the flea at 5:30 a.m. and loading up 90% of the stock between noon and 2 p.m.

******

My picking skills have improved (sure I still buy a dud now and again) and sales on eBay are great right now but Craigslist is slow (last couple of weeks of Jan, 2014).

Anyway, a big change after selling about 45 Saturdays a year at a flea market for almost 10 YEARS !

At least he was trying to help. You could've shown some appreciation for the response and gracefully said, "thanks, I did try that", then move on. Your lack of gratitude for him trying to help might explain why no one else has bothered to try.

Hence my response "Don't take this wrong".....

I think it's most likely that no one responded because there just aren't that many people even reading the posts.

But, thanks for the observation.  ;D

Have you tried clearing you cache/cookies/active logins?

Don't take this wrong, but you sound like those foreign-country based help line assistants !

While I realize they have to go through their scripts and can't have an original thought, I patiently explained to her before she could run me through it that I had done the following:

1) cleared cache, cookies, browsing history, etc.

2) got a new password (which also didn't get me in)

3) had tried 3 computers (two of which are rarely used) and had similar experience (couldn't log in)

4) had gotten in ONCE by using Firefox instead of IE9

5) later couldn't get in with even Firefox.

I think #3 above says a lot about what I finally said to her:

"Doesn't it make sense that if I can't get logged in using THREE SEPARATE computers that it is something at YOUR end?"

Her response was "I'm not authorized to say anything about something like that". That kind of told me that I wasn't the first one having the problem.  She put me through to the advanced team, but after being on hold for about 10 minutes I hung up.

Lo and behold, 10 minutes later I was able to get in using Firefox. I haven't tried IE9 again. I just wanted to get some items listed.

Get a clue eBay...fess up when it's your fault.

Crap !

I signed out of eBay while in Firefox and now it won't let me back in.  Sure hoping this is truly an eBay problem because I can't figure out anything I would have done to cause it.

There are a couple of members signed on here now at 7:42 p.m.  Could one or more of you try to sign in to your eBay accounts ?

eBay / Can't Sign In to eBay
« on: January 22, 2014, 09:17:22 PM »
It's 7:15 pm on the west coast, Wednesday the 22nd.

Can't sign in to eBay using Windows 7 and IE9.  Said my password was wrong (which it wasn't) but I sent  change request and that came back. Tried with new password. Said wrong password.

Did a google search for problem signing in and got about 3 notes showing today's date and similar to what I said. Did that several times and even THOSE stopped coming up !

*****

Finally decided to try Firefox. That worked !  Able to sign in with new password.

Anyone willing to try to sign into eBay with any version of IE ?

LinkedIn is filled with people who think they're more important than they really are.. pretentious people. Self important (insert expletive here) who think the world of corporate America. I signed up for my printing biz, because I thought it may be a good way to get customers, but no.. People talk about themselves, don't care about what you post.

The owner of the world's most popular storage auction forum belongs.

eBay / Took Pictures for eBay
« on: January 21, 2014, 11:45:05 PM »
While the east coast is suffering a lot of snow and cold, I took advantage of a sunny, 68 degree day in the central valley of California; we're about 10 degrees above normal and have gone 45 days without rain...that could be a problem this summer.

I took 270 pictures of 17 items; I take two pics of each "pose" or "angle" and then choose the best one later on the computer for posting on eBay. Each of these items are ending up with an average of 5 to 8 pics.
