The Treasure Chest / Re: Recent find in newest locker...

If anyone is interested,I currently have it on Ebay...

That would be a GREAT first sale for you on eBay !  ;D

Edit:

Just went back to look at it again and went to the bottom where you pointed readers to another account dating from 2003 which has over 250 feedback. Wondering why (if the other account is yours) you decided to open a NEW account with zero feedback for offering this and your other items?

When you watch too much reality tv you think you can go up against Dave Hester....
When you think you can go up against Dave Hester you pay $1,300 for a pile of junk...

When you don't have money to pay your rent you dumpster dive in Bel Aire....

BWD....

Someday you might get in trouble for publishing something like this without giving attribution, but as long as I'm around on THIS forum I'll save your rear when I can.

The post and the quote above are from THIS source:

Edit: Maybe it's all right for Storage Treasures to take the idea from DirecTV (that was the original source of the 'idea' for that theme) and maybe they got permission from DTV to use a variation (though I doubt it) AND then there's the photo Storage Treasures used....see it below.  That's a ripoff (I believe) from DTV as well.  Is there no honor ? Come on Storage Treasures (Lance ?)

The DTV commercial in question has the young man shown in the ditch starting out playing racquetball, getting a damaged eye, then an eyepatch and getting chased and beaten up by 3 thugs and thrown in the ditch.

probably

Probably ?

That's like saying the word "probably" just above is probably shown in the color RED and probably in 18 pt type.

I enjoy reading about other people's luck with auction buys and I got through about 3 sentences of yours, but without a paragraph break now and again I can't keep track of where I am.  It wouldn't even have to be at a logical place for a change of thought, just some blank space between two ideas to put in some "breathing room".

Like this.

And this.

Sorry.

Edit:

After you inserted the breaks I was able to read the whole thing !  (and I bet some younger eyes were saved too) ;D

Movieman, have you used the CL App yet and if so which one?   The LifeLike App has so many bugs it drives me crazy.......

Nope, and after reading this thread earlier I went back to that old thread about iPad and Clist and revisited it.
You were talking about problems with it then as well.

I just use Safari on my iPad 1 and use Clist as I do on my home computer. I don't post on either Clist or eBay from my Ipad. I use my laptop at home for that; it's not just because my iPad 1 doesn't have a camera; I like the better control I have on the home computer and all the picture opportunities I have (zoom, html usage, etc).

As mentioned by another poster in that old thread, I need to clean, try out, etc any item I am going to put online, so I don't feel an immediate need to photograph and post it just after I buy it.

I think part of the Craigslist customer "thing" is that today EVERYONE is an "expert" on buying and selling...due to shows like Storage Wars, American Pickers, etc.

They all think THEY are the ones who know how to bargain, etc even though when they are dealing with "us" they are dealing with people who have both bought and sold more than any of them if they are just regular consumers.

I always ask a Clist customer on the phone (because I take calls not emails) what city they are located in as to me it is a dead giveaway that if they drive 20 to 30 miles or more that more than likely they are going to make the buy if the quality and price of the item are correct.  When I am making a BUY from Clist (not often) and they ask ME that question I always tell them I am coming from THEIR city so I have a little more bargaining power (I think).

I did have a customer get to me a bit a few weeks ago. I had an item listed at $350 and they were coming from 40 miles away...thought I had it made. She offered me $300 and I said "I'm pretty firm on that price." Her comeback was "Are you sure about that ?"  Pretty "ballsy" for someone who might be making an 80 mile round trip for nothing, but I hesitated before responding and she came up with "How about $325?"  That was fine with me and considering that I had only paid $30 for the item it was REALLY fine!

Meanwhile, Clist has been pretty dead for me the last 4 weeks or so. Either the wrong items, wrong pricing or ?? .

Starting off as Ho, Hum month (again)...

Went to one auction yesterday. Crowd OK. Maybe 15 total but 7 were regulars. Of the 4 lockers, one new guy got two, 1 regular got one and I forget who got the other one. I didn't bid once. Best one went for $400 and looked like it might double...I just wasn't inspired.

Forgot to go to one today. Oh well, apathy breeds memory loss !

eBay slow, Clist slower.  Ho, Hum doesn't describe it...may ZZZZZzzzzz is better.

Here is a nice memorial to Tom:

Edit:

One p.m. Thursday, Oct 4, 2012. Just talked to a manager who had lunch with Tom on Monday and all was fine then.

Also talked to another manager who said Tom died Tuesday night about 9 p.m. His wife was with him at home when he had a heart attack which was immediately fatal.  If you have to go, that might be the way. Some people have strokes which leaves them sometimes with years of a life that is hardly worth living.

Rest in peace Tom you have left many friends behind who are thinking of you and your family.

Tom was one of the best auctioneers in central California and he will be missed.

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: hello!
« on: October 03, 2012, 06:18:46 PM »
dirty DAWG here! Just wanted to say hello and ask where the best auctions are, region wise. Thanks!

They're the same all over the USA, but the values attached to them in CA, TX and soon in NY and FL are higher due to the TV shows, so move whereever you want to make your fortune.

Sometimes buyers are stuck holding items until the right buyer emerges. Indeed, the third-generation auctioneer, added in an interview that if someone told him that they quit their jobs and decided to become a storage buyer full-time without previous experience, he would advise them to try and get their old job back.

BWD didn't give attribution on that statement, so I will. It was from Dan Dotson in the NBC story linked by  BWD in another thread today.

Good story....telling it like it really is instead of the way the newbies see it.

I especially liked this from Dan Dotson regarding Dave Hester buy of newspapers reporting Elvis death.

“Sometimes the guys evaluate their stuff by perceived value, or future value depending on the length of time it takes to sell it or them,” said Dan Dotson in an email.  “Dave sells those Elvis papers every day on eBay for $15 each; it may take him several lifetimes to get his 90K, but eventually the value will be recognized.”

I'll take a look on eBay for those papers and edit this later with any results.

Also, at $15 each and selling 1 per day (every day) it would take Dave about 16.45 years to sell them all for a total
of $90,000. And that's if nobody buys a copy from the many other people who are also selling them.

Edit:

Here's a link for Elvis death newspapers. After you look at that one, click on completeds. I think it may take 30 lifetimes to sell all of Dave's copies !

This is the normal when I visit this forum. I guess giving people a free website is insulting. Maybe you could wow us with what you have done to help others.
