Craigslist / Re: Think I scored a nice one yesterday...
« on: May 19, 2013, 08:23:27 PM »
well a week later things have gone great with this stuff I got from the consignment guy from CraigsList... the RailRoad Books I sold to one collector for $700.00...some cameras and accessories have sold for $320 so far but here's one I didn't even realize how good a score it was ... an 8 Track!!! ( I hate 8 tracks more than books,lol..well maybe not so much anymore, hahahaha )...the auction description ......

"NEW in BOX PONTIAC 1972,1973,1974 8-track demo tape GTO,Grand Prix,Firebird.
 So COOOOOOLLL!!!!.
Original,Real Deal,Authentic Plastic Wrapped,Unopened,Unused
After some online research I'm pretty sure that:
This is an early 70's Pontiac 8-track tape cartridge that was used for demonstration of the 8-track tape player in your new Pontiac. This was given to customer if car was equipped with an 8-track. I do not have an 8 track player to test this. A great display item at the car show in your classic GTO,Grand Ville,Bonneville,Trans Am , Firebird,Grand Prix or any other Pontiac.
Though it appears to have been safely & securely stored ,I have no idea if it functions."

 THE RESULT......
....... it hovered in the high $20.00 range until the last few minutes of the auction..... then ...BAM ....
final selling price..... $282.77 .... amazing... and the guy paid like 3 minutes later... crazy, right?
( i can't figure out how to insert an image so below is a link to the auction result)... how the hell are images attached? ( yes,i hit the icon but then i get this >>>    <<<< ,now what???

eBay still allows the sale of the Quran which contains commands to kill people who who don't have the same faith. But eBay wouldn't want to be religiously intolerant to Muslims.  ::)  Regardless of whether someone approves or disapproves of the KKK, they're still a religious organization. How can eBay be tolerant of one religious group but not another?

So it's still OK to sell pictures of drones, missiles, & bombs right; cause these are only used in the promotion of LOVE!  :-*

WTF! They left all those boxes in the rain to get soaked just so they could do a piece auction?  :-[

214
Those are NOT new! They have obvious wear and condition damage due to use, age, & improper storage. Probably wore them in 1986 for a month or two, then stuck them in a damp garage.

My opinion anyway, needless to say I wouldn't pay more than $210 for them but thats me!  :P

hmmm, never seen a storage facility stop the bidding because they thought it was going to high. It sure would be a sh$ty deal if they stopped the auction because they thought the crowd knew there was something really valuable in there and decided they are going to keep it for themselves.

Makes me wonder if some auctioneer companies would be worried that the bid is going higher then anyone actually has money to pay and it's just a pissing contest between a handful of bidders to see who gets "dropped" with it, or maybe they would be concerned that if the bidding is going so high the contents might be worth it for the tenant to sue them over, so the facility & auction company might want to double check and make sure they have done everything legally required, dotted all I's and crossed all T's, before selling off what appears to be a very valuable unit.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: What about Sundays?
« on: May 16, 2013, 01:28:56 PM »
Don't think I have ever seen a Sunday auction but if so I would say it was a typo made by the facility or newspaper.

217
Starting to get real stupid now. I think the facilities have finally realized that Saturday auctions draw the crowds & the money out. Last week, only 1 work week auction but 3 Saturday auctions. This week, only 2 work week auctions but 5! Saturday auctions! WTF!

The good news is they are all within 1 hour of each other so they should spread the crowd thin since the most anyone will be able to hit is 2 of the 5 max. 3 start at sime time, then the other 2 an hour later.

So should I go to the less advertised auction so I might be able to score some marginal to low quality units cheap, or should I go to the better advertised auction where most of the people will show up, but tends to have better quality units?

I know the feeling! That's why I cringe every time I see a gun case, cause many facilities & actioneers in my area will not knowingly auction a unit with guns in it. Of course it's always a NEWBIE who has to get excited and yell out "Oooh, there's a gun case in there!"  :-[ Same thing with cars & motorcycles. Those are more rare & typically cars aren't "hidden" in the units, easy to spot when door goes up.

On the flip side, it's sometimes nice to stand next to newbies at the door cause they are to stupid to keep what they see to themselves and I'm like, "oooh, I didn't see that! Keep talking!"  :)

I guess she has decided to splurge a little after living a healthy lifestyle to get her into the late 80's.  :D

I've seen these types before, I got 20 bucks that says she will be getting your wife to take her to her drug dealer, "boyfriends" house, or illegal poker games within the month! :o

I want to become a real "whale" before I become a virtual "whale" on this forum.  :)

Never believe the sob stories.

Today, this lady asked me if I would lower my price because she was giving me everything she had and had three kids she needed to feed.

I didn't want her kids to go without so I agreed. Plus, she was spending $1400 on furniture and I didn't want to lose the sale.

I had to wait for her husband. When he got there we were talking and he tells me his wife is heading to the hair dressers to spend a hundred bucks on highlights.

Yep, the truly desperate tend to either have too much pride or too much shame to admit they are in true dire straights. When people try that sob story, try to get it for nothin stuff, I just tell them about the charity furniture store that gives out free donated furniture. Funny how the people who are so down & out get offended when I mention the charity shop.

The Lounge / Re: Pretty Rough Storm Came Through Our Area
« on: May 10, 2013, 09:10:07 AM »
We had a pretty rough storm come through our area yesterday. It knocked out our power for 13 hours. Heavy rain, about 60 mph winds and hail. Hail and rain was coming down sideways. I though for sure my car's paint job was finished (pardon the pun) but luckily no damage.

I think I saw your hand on TV holding up the golf ball size hail.  ;D
