I understand you thought and why you offer these sevices.

But you are forgetting one very importent thing.

For us who have been doing this for 3, 5, 10,15 and 20 years, we know about every little storage place that is. We know about the big national chains and the bigger independent ones, but we also know about the small mom and pap places that maybe have 1-4 auctions a year.  The only ones who don't know about these places are the newbies.  So by you giving this infrmation to the newbies, you are not helping the "oldtimers" or "veterans" at all. What you are doing is just making the problem we allready have bigger.

You state on your website that this is to help the ones who has been in the business and now are struggeling because of the tv show. Well we know these places and so far they are our little secret where we can get lockers for "normal" prices. Your services will not help at all, you will drag all the newbies over to the less known auctions.  So i don't buy your "kindness of my heart" phrases or way of thinking.

212
Here is the problem, how i see it.

Everyone who have a listing services do this to prey on the weak, the new and the lazy.
This because the "oldtimers" and people like me know where to find this infomation, and we are willing to spend 10 min a week to find it out.

Spending 100-200 dollars a year, and yeah i have even seen a listing company charge 499.00 a year. Is not something i recommend anyone. if you want to be in the business, you have to do the legwork. Since it is a business driven with possible loss/profits, it is very importent to keep the cost down.

I have been to auctions that have only been made public in a tiny newspaper in a town with 2000 residents, and 75 people showed up for auction. I have also been to auctions in the middle of Memphis, where the greater Memphis area is about 1.2 mill people and only 6 showed up for auction. Yes this year (after all the tv shows)

Another thing is, if you and other manage to attract customers to all the small venues and auctions, then they are gonna be just as crowded as everyone else. So the point is then gone.

213
Wow! I guess I need to do more research then....Thanks!

It is not that hard, google, a cup of coffee and 10 min, then you should be good to go.
Don' throw your money away on something you can have for free.

Ask your self this, if you had 150 dollars, would you spend that on a service that sent you information, or would you spend those 150 dollars on one or several lockers?

Why not take one more sample as i am going and have it up on the screen.

I just pick out a few, there is tons of auctions that i have found, just spending 5 min on it.

I mean this is just to show people (newbies) that you can do this for free.
I also believe that if you are serious about doing this business, you should find out about this on your own.
When i started, i spent months preparing, doing research, planning, and attending without bidding. I spent maybe 6 to 8 months just learning about the business and slowly get my feet wet.  I believe that everyone who wants to do this must go the long way and the hard way. If you don't do it, well then i think you will be lost really fast.

Here is one that maybe has less people attending.

Now thats a nice piece.

Should be easy to sell and bring good money.

To the right person who wants to remodel a older home, this would be perfect.
I would set a value on this one around 250 dollars. ( not to public, but to the right customer)
Regular retail price i would put it for sale between 175 and 225 dollars.

I had a few of those in some of my older rental apt's, and when we renovated them we sold the old ones for 75-100 bucks, depending on the condition.

This is something we all can do, it does not matter where you live, except Alaska and Hawaii. Some states are still not online with this system, but they will be soon. In total there is only 7 states that are not in this system.

I live in Houston and i have not been able to find an auction close to where I live. I did take at look at your website but I did consider it a bit expensive with all due respect. I may consider joining if it where in the 10 to 20 dollar range.

Hi there.

I just did a search here for fun.
I spent 2 minutes to find over 1100 auctions in Houston the last two weeks + two weeks ahead. And the best part is, it was free.

I can do this in every state (except Alaska and Hawaii), so guys come on, don't be lazy and stop wasting your money on something you can do for free, and it only takes you about 10 minutes a week to stay on top of it.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: New unit won today

This is where experience comes into play.

Buying lockers is all about making money on most things in there, i don't care how much or where i make it, as long as i make money on most things.

When i inventory lockers and plan the sale, because you have to have a plan on how to sell. I put a price on everything, even things you might think is "dump material" many times have i been suprised by just put an add on craigslist for something i normally would have taken to the dump. And 2 or 3 days later someone picks it up for between 5 and 20 bucks.  Last year i sold " dump material" on craigslist for close to 500 dollars.

Another thing i have seen and experienced, is that, it isen't what i see that makes me my money, every time it is what i don't see in the units that brings me the profit and return i want.  So by just bidding on what you see is limiting. But it is your referance, something to put a value on your locker and to set a bid cap.

Just remember this:

1. What you see should be your guide to how much you want to bid and what the locker is worth. This is also what will bring your investment back +  a minimum profit of X2 your investment.

2. What you don't see is what can bring you the extra profit and high turnover. This is where you can score bigger and many times  X3 or X5 or even X10 your investment.

3. Knowing how to create an profit from anything, and you can if you want to, and put some effort into making good money on most things. You just have to be creative and willing to work.

There is a few unwritten rules to this business, and if you follow them and at the same time are beeing creative, then you will be making money, good money.

222
I was checking out Tennessee on your website, and i can't really see that your advice on the best counties are right.
Yes they are close to Nashville, but for us who have done hundreds and maybe thousends of auctions all over TN will not agree with you on that.

When you recommend stuff like that, do you do that based on numbers you collect or years of auction buying and experience out in the field??

223
My name is Ivana and I work for a company, that collects storage auction information from all 50 states in the country and hosts an online storage auction database for our nationwide subscriber base. Working for this company has made me privy to A LOT of storage auction information and I'd love to answer any beginner questions and offer intermittent advice. I'll be around the forum and look forward to the exchange. Happy hunting everyone!

Ivana

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I just want to ask you something, i don't mean to be rude or against what you are doing. But you guys put out some damn bold claims on your website "testimonials" from customers who have started to make $120,000.00 in just few months after starting using your information. As a long time auction buyer i find this a littlebit on the edge of what can be possible.

And what i find a little wrong is that you charge people 140.00 a year for this service, i find this to be high, when anyone can find the same information for free by spending 10 minutes a week looking it up.

My other thing i have a little problem with is that you claim to give good advise to newbies, what kind of advise is it that you give? is it about finding auction or is it about doing the auction and everything that comes with it?

I've decided, I'm moving to Memphis tomorrow...it's final  Elvis better be waiting for me when I get there

LOL.

Well today there was several auction runs at the same time, so the crowd spread out nice.'
The auction route i choose it was about 18 people, and where maybe 10 or 11 was bidding.

In this unit, i found gun box with a cleaning kit, Pioneer home theather amplifier, 56 new picture frames from IKEA, 2 ladders, the duffelbag was full of XBOX equipment, jewelrybox with one silver ring and one 10Kt gold ring, Pioneer GM-800 car amplifier, tons of car audio cables, and some fisher price toys in pretty good condition.
