Stories about Storage Auctions / New unit won today
« on: March 15, 2011, 03:58:18 PM »
I got one more unit today, was very lucky and snapped it up for $50.00

It will bring me alot of profit, there was some very good stuff in there that will be easy to sell.

Picture of the unit:

My first ever unit was bad one. It tok me 3 days (5 hours every day) to clean it out and drive it to the dump.
That unit costed me with all the dumps fee's and hauling about 800 dollars, i got back 300 dollars afterall was sold.
It was a typical hoarder unit, with both dead and live rats in it.

My second worst one was my first here in Memphis, it was a unit full of trash, tons of work for break even.
After this unit i promised my self i would never bid on units like that again.

But i have seen worse, about 3 weeks ago, a unit was so bad that the auctioneer stopped the auction and closed the door. It had old used diapers with Poop ( it was enough to fill 3 or 4 black garbage bags) in them. When he opened the door, the smell was horrible. Along with these poop collectors, there was old food, old garbage bags, tons of empty soda can's, etc.

I got a unit way back, and in this unit there was a few trunks from the 30's and 40's.
Also there was alot of old books, these books was published between 1927 and 1953.

Among the books this litlle thing showed up, and it has the "old" olive green millitary color to it.
I have asked several people, everyone seems to think it is some kind of millitary thing, a part of a uniform or something.
But so far no one have not been able to tell me what it is and what it was used for.

Is there anyon in this forum who can help me find out what this is?

On the last 10 units (memphis) i have done.

2 lost money. ( including costs like dump fee and hauling)
1 has was brake even
2 has double my money
2 has tripple my money
3 has 5 times or more on my investment.

Last 10 units i got in Knoxville

1 lost money
1 was brake even
1 was double my investment
rest of them is around 8-10 times my investment.

From buying around 140-150 units i have only had 2 that has been super duper crazy good ( like you see on tv )

Best locker ever was in Knoxville, where i got one for $395.00 and when all was sold i had 8000.00 in total sales. But the best part about it was that everything sold within 3 weeks. Normally things is slower then that.

I am just wondering, why would someone pay for something that is free and easy to find?

I know what you want to do, and in some cases it is a good idea. But not when it comes to storage auctions.

You have to remember that most storage places run their auctions on the same day every month. And they have flyers printed out to tell you the upcoming auctions the next 8 months.

So when you have been to alle the auctions once, you know when their next will be.

I can't see this beeing something alot of people would use, this would be for the lazy ones, the ones who don't want to work to make this happend, and they wll be out of the business sooner then later.

If you think of building a website and make this your side business? i think you will be spending alot of time and some money on it, and i am not sure you would get the turnover you are hoping for.

Giving people the benefit of the doubt is the best course, but you risk a damaged retina if you fight the eyeroll for too long.

Sbell111 you don't seem to want to stop do you? You should really stop and think before you continue to make a fool of your self.
You can think whatever you want about me and what i stand for. But until you know the whole truth then just shut the **** up.

By going out in public and calling me a lier without any good reason, or proof of that, you are stepping into some legal territory where a lawsuit might hang over your head. So lets see how far you dear take this. I know in the end i will have the last laugh and the last saying.

Like i said in a earlier post on this forum, you are a nobody, you probobly have not gotten one damn locker yet, and have not made any attempts to get one. You are just a big talker and nothing else. Like i said, i am a winner, your not.

Most toys that are "new" are no big thing right now, if you want to make money on toy collections, it has to be older then 1974, this is the year where most toy companies went over to plastic, yeah some made tin toys for a few years after 1974, but then outsourced it to Taiwan or Hong Kong, the value on those are next to nothing. In the earliy 80's it was motly made in China. Made in China is bad for anything worth collecting.

I try to stay away from toys in general, but if i do come across toys like beanie babies or other collectibles, then i try to find a byer that i know collect it or know someone who does. With my beanie babies, i had to go thru 3 people to get a buyer.  My point is, people use Ebay as the only place to sell or have a value set. This is so far from the real world as you can come. Ebay is a place to dump everything you don't want, becasue on ebay you have 80% low end buyers.

Let me take another example, fine china. Rulesforrebels said he could not sell it, well i can't sell that either on ebay, unless it is one piece someone needs to replace in their set, because their broke. I take my china to stores that sell china, both new and used. They don't buy it from me, but they are marketing it for me to customers that stops buy. And 8 out of 10 times i sell it. Then the store gets 20% commission of the sale.

It is all about creating a network, create relations with people, and then "key people"  It is all in what i call creative selling.
But of course, if all you hope for is for ebay and craigslist to do the job, then you have limited your self as much as you can.

Places i try to stay away from when it comes to selling is Ebay, craigslist and pawn stores. These 3 places will not generate any profit at all.

So is there stuff i can't sell? of course, but i try to stay away from lockers that has that in them. Like mattresses, i hate them and i can't sell it. Another thing is books, i hate books, becasue i only get like 25 cents for them no matter what, and sometimes they don' buy it all, becasue it is not the right title. The 3rd thing i can not seem to sell is CD's and DVD's, So basicly i am building up my own CD and DVD collection.

Not all beaniebabies are worth top dollars, alot of them are in the pricelist that came out now in 2011 valued at $1.00 or less.
But if you have the right ones, yeah they go fortop dollars. 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations beanies in mint condition get their value.
Most of the ones i got went for $18 and $25 a piece. One of them went for $85.00 Only two of then went for under $5.00

This is an adjusted value done in november of 2010. 70% of the beanies have lost about 10-15% of their value, some have increased their value, but thats like a handful of them.

So to another point, before you guys start to call others for liers, i have one thing to say. Take a good look in the mirror, you might find a lier a lot closer then you think. You don't know me, or know my background, so calling me a lier is something you have no right to do. That goes for the both of you.  I can not help any of you two, to make you sad lifes any better, if you can't sell products for a profit or for it's value, then thats your f...... problem. Why would i help two losers like you??? Tell me why i should open up my world of contacts to you? Exactly, i have been in the collecting business for almost 25 years in Europe, i have since i moved to the USA connected with alot of people in the collection business.

I was basicly born into collection and auctions, my family have been in the auctionhouse business for 60 years in Europe, don't you think that some benefits comes with that???

All i have to say is that envy is a *****, so just because you can't sell things, don't call others names and liers. You stink, I win, it is that easy. ****ing dumbasses.

You know what Movieman, if you had sent me a private message, and said, hey can we hook up and you help me with some beanie babies sale, i would probobly have done that for you. BUT when you bring it on in a sarcastic way like this, and at the same time indirectly call me a lier,  i will not lift a finger to help you out.

I see alot of people are so hung up at what does not sell.
I have to say i think it has to do with the way you think about it and talk about it. I have so far had no problem selling stuff like that.
Most of the guys i talk to in the business are pretty damn open minded to most things, and they sell it.

I think that if you use ebay as a referanse towards everything, you will not sell anything. Ebay only has about 10 of the buyers market in USA, most customers you find outside ebay and craigslist.

Ebay and craigslist must be a extra sales medium and nothing else, if these two places are you main selling place, you will be stuck with alot of stuff.

And from reading some comments, it looks like some people use Ebay as a appraiser and sales confirming thing. The truth is that there is about 60 million products for sale on Ebay at any given time. You do not hav enough customers in there to buy it all.

One funny thing, i was told by people in here that beanie babies had to be given away, well i wonder why i then could sell all 34 of them in 2 days for 720 dollars to a serious collector, this collector told me he had been online checking ebay, but could not find the ones he wanted.

I have sold tons of nice china the last 4 months, for top dollar, i have sold nick nacks , i have sold 60% of everything i have gotten in my units. Things i have not sold are things i want to sit on for awhile so the value goes up or i am waiting for the right customer to showup.

If you want to sell your poroducts, be positive about them, be positive about your selling, then you will sell. If the first thing you do is to check ebay and see alot of unsold items, and you link that to you and your products, guess what, your not gonna sell it.

This locker sounds just like EVERY one of the lockers that all of the guys on Storage Wars and Auction Hunters buy!!  LMAO

Did you film the trip to your appraiser for your B Roll for when you apply for the show?  haha

Just being cynical...sorry...great to hear you got a strong locker.....I think I'm just stating the obvious when I say we all know it looks so much easier and more profitable on the shows.

You know, i wish someone had filmed it, according to my wife, i have been totally different the last few days, and i have been running around trying to get things done. LOL

This unit makes the 400 other tragic units just poff go away, they are now forgotten. LOL
Memphis is a hard place to get a good locker, so when you first get one, you hold on to it. Memphis is a town with 2 sides, those who are poor or those who are loaded and filthy rich. Very little inbetween.  And it is easy to see who rents the units here in this town. The rich people do not rent or mess up their payments if they have one. So in memphis you have tons of low income lockers.

If you travel 2 hours east, to Nashville, it changes, there you have a bigger part of population who are in the middleclass, so the lockers are better, but then again more expensive to bid on.

Sounds like a good one. Think you'll ever have another one like it?

Ohh for sure, maybe not the same things, but a locker even better then this will come along.
