Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #3...March, 2012
« on: March 23, 2012, 08:37:08 AM »

Btw almost 4 months into the year and I am 0fer on lockers. Can't buy a break right now.

Only one for us in 4 months, surviving on a box lot auction and freebies.

@Cobia that is scary.

Already getting warm in the 85 degree weather.  The crowds have to go down.  If not I'll have to clean the hood of my car so can fry some eggs while waiting for all the looky-loos in July.

Think we can already fry some eggs down here.  ;D

Not going to bother with watching like Movieman can't handle much of that.

Rockin what are you going to do with 5 minutes of Fame?  ;) 8) JK

Makes me suspicious of StoreMe I accused of being Glendon and he has not been on here for a day to busy making a video.  ???

Just my opinion.

Glad you have moved on. Think I would still be stewing.

Stores / Re: Anyone Actually Own a Store?

Thanks for the input forevertreasures.

The thrift we us is mainly consignment, she posted what was paid out in consignment for Feb. Not sure how she paid her rent. It was over 2K but at 30% does not cover her rent.

Wished she had a policy like yours of after 30 days end of consignment pick up your item. When she first open she took what ever she could get, someone brought in a nice vintage bar, with stools. It is still there taking up space he wants $2500 for the thing may be worth that but not in our area. Ok I will stop ranting.

We have pulled several things that have not sold trying to sell them on CL slow going. I have helped her in the past of going in and helping organize things for free. We stop buy about once a week and half our stuff is covered up why it is not selling. I guess I need to go down there and work on getting our stuff uncovered just so it will sell. She gets more out of the cheep particle board furniture than we can so worth taking it too her.

She did hit a bump in the road of not putting things out on the side walk buy Code. I know that hurt a lot of her sales but good grief. Sorry did not stop.

Sounds like with the other business you have going is helping.

This I will say was a good luck of the draw....Its all a gamble this one just payed off BIG TIME.

Thanks for the update. That is really great. Even on the low end. Good luck finding that buyer.  ;D

Welcome aboard.

Have fun at the auctions this Sat. It can be interesting.

Glad you are not in our neck of the woods anything that looks like possible antiques lockers go crazy. We have a few regulars that are into them and markets to sell them.

Let us know what you think after you attend.

@ Movieman enjoy your vacation.

We have also missed more than attended Oh wait have not attended any yet this month. Planning on hitting one on Wednesday, on the way to visit my son.

The low profit + all the work = - (not worth doing).

We have slowed mainly because of still high inventory on large items.
Have noticed that people are only buying what they need and maybe a cheap splurge .50.  Granted this is in our area.

And like Cobia said no predictable trends. The auction on Wednesday is where we got our first unit, they were shocked at the turn out then. They don't have them very often so will be interesting to see the crowd.

@ fredgsanford that is just sad.

Imagine what would happen if Wal-Mart were to adjust prices based on outward appearances? Do you think some people would be outraged?

The profiling listed in this thread is how different ethnic groups shop.

And in a flea market atmosphere it is not like shopping at Wal-Mart.  You have a sales person at every booth trying to make a sale, and knowing your customers and how they view things helps.

Hispanic all about the haggle, rarely the price.  So knowing that you have your price and can decide weather to haggle or not but knowing you are going to get haggled you are ready to handle it with class.

If you see a women with three kids in tow and she could really use a stroller and you have one, would you stick to your price or sell cheaper because she did not have enough money for it and looked poor ?

Karma  I would
Even if she is pulling my leg my good karma her bad.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Spring Festival / Yard sale
« on: March 18, 2012, 04:57:51 PM »
Less is more.
I set the cute little teddy bear up against something or hang arms over something make it look all cute and it sells.

Sold a large nemo stuff animal at our yard sale for $5. LOL

Oh have Easter  baskets have not sold a one.  ::)

When I sort I organize everything all pots and pans together, electronics, appliances ect. Learning that is ok but when we go to sell don't load up that whole box of pots and pans take a set our a few and they sell take them all and can't sell any.  have not perfected it yet, but this weekend set up some glass ware sold some went to van and refreshed it. (actually forgot it was in the van)  ;D but it worked.

We still have 4 baby rabbits left so still hope for stew. Mother is bread again so not to long we will have more.

"Those suckers bite!!!!" was reading how to trim their nails said don't cut to short rabbit will bite the living HE77 out of you. LOL
