Stores / Re: Anyone Actually Own a Store?
« on: March 18, 2012, 04:25:10 PM »

The comment about the 'grand opening' was in reference to all the regulars and other dealers checking out the new guy. I might put some balloons out but I am primarily concerned with converting all that likely traffic into sales.

Sam

I always feel if something sales real fast I priced to low. But too high then it just sits there. One of those Damn if you do and damn if you don't.  Good luck think you are over thinking it, price it and see.  ;)
My husband accuses me of doing the same thing when we go to sell.   :o
So can relate.

Sounds great.

On the game thing could list on ebay as a lot and see what happens. Sold some games and people wanted the manuals. So feel there is a market.

We picked up a box of pin stripping (over 50pcs. of slightly used boxes, some new) maybe cost .10 was in a lot. Tried ebay no sale, sold a few at yard and flea for $1.00- .50 each. Took back to the auction we got them from sold for $10.00.  ::).  So moral is try a couple different avenues for selling.

Good Luck and keep us posted on the final out come.

I know but Florida is pretty nice otherwise.  ;D

We have not found the market that attracts a large Hispanic or black customers. Might be the one closest  to home. Need to find them they will buy what we have to sell.   ;D

Fellow Hispanic vendor tried to haggle for a small trampoline but we would not budge he paid the price then of course I bought some tomato plants from him. Trading money.  ;)

$1,000 a day at a thrift, antique, consignment, etc is crazy good money... The shop owners I have spoken to (and/or) have seen the actual financials are clearing ~$1,500-2,000 a week. Sales are ~$2-2,500 per week AND those are the really successful shops!

Have heard grumbling from the realtor regarding my LoI.

Sam

Be patient on the real-estate some money is better then no money, The one we like had just rented space so they were feeling good about oh we can get what we are asking. If we could pull the month to month thing would be great. But really what they were asking is not bad a little over .50 sq'.

And yeah $1000 a day is crazy money. Like the $1500-2,000 week though.  ;D

Good luck on your booth opening, not sure I have ever seen anyone do a grand opening for a booth before but sounds like a good idea.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Spring Festival / Yard sale

Well we did not even empty the van. Trying the less is more theory.  ;D

Took the rabbits too. Nice attention getter only sold one.

Trying to sell the first litter of rabbits (no hasenpfeffer stew yet). If we sell this first litter get back our total investment in the rabbits, cages, food, everything. So not bad.

Not a lot of vendors customers were asking what happened, place usually full. think there were 8 of us. Might be why we did well. No one haggled prices just paid what we were asking.

Did have one lady pull one over a .50 purse. Husband caught it but let it go, if you have to rip off .50 you are sad. Reminded me of your oriental lady that you run off.  ;)

On the down side spent more than I do at the flea markets.  ::) Bought the chair, a plant, and two t-shirts. the plant being the most expensive. Lady was selling them like crazy.

Have been selling stuffed animals only put out one or two if they are big, three or four if small sell for $1 and they just walk away.  Oh and sold some beanie babies LOL

Other Forms of Selling / Spring Festival / Yard sale

Our Little town had a Festival / yard sale event today at the local community center.

Think our best day ever. Drove about 6 miles to get there sooooo that a big plus to start.
$10 for a space.

Very low crowd but sold what we do at the Flea miles away. Had live music all day.  ;D

Also picked up a wicker rocking chair for $2. Looks shabby can defiantly resale it for a lot more. But I really like it nice and comfy.

So all in all a good day. Saw the only thrift store owner there selling. She said she is having to go to auctions because she has no donations. She runs an SOS out reach.

Not sure how much she is doing for the community but looked a little fishy to me.

Did realize though that if she is my competition if we did open a store there was none.  ;)

Oh and Happy St Patrick's Day !!! We did wear green.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Always check those trash bags out!

Always worth a dump and re-stuff in another bag.   :D

Glad you got something good today.

Should also check the flaps on the inside of boxes.

I agree with Craig - around here most of the facilities look at the auctions as a necessary evil and just want it to be over.  They deal with what they perceive as a "hassle" so they can re-rent the units.  Won't be seeing any leprechauns anytime soon!!  :D

I saw one in the legal notice's. Had to do a double take. Went to check on my list I had made for the day, right on the top of the legals was a listing Auction today blah blah. No list of tenants just an advertising went and found the legal notice to make sure it was legit. But they put it in the legal notices. It was a crowded auction.

Would avoid this one or go and video tape it for the fun of it.  ;)

Flea Markets / Re: Different flea markets are different.

I have 3 flea markets in the city where I live and they all suck! Mostly walkers and pickers. The flea market I sell at is in a city 40 miles away, it has real shoppers. The money made is well worth the added expense of gas.

Thought we were alone in that problem.

and on the profiling most of our shoppers are retired.  ;)

Flea Markets / Re: Different flea markets are different.

Yes they are very different. We have been bouncing around to different ones.

The real cheap Flea ($3per space) sales are all over the place. The vendors with tools seem to do pretty good there.

Another one the same driving distance in other direction of the $3 Flea, was different every time we went. The rent is $15 + Tax.  Saw a tool guy sell out buy 11:00 Am one day.

We went to a market our fellow vendors told us about. Loved it Rent $15 per spot. Very busy market. Sold a ton of glass ware (the crap that want sell at a yard sale). Had priced right though. Only problem over 50 miles away,  :o one way. All said and done we made very little. And with gas prices climbing will have to have a van full of free stuff to make that one work.  ::).

We have one only 17 miles away. Rent $12, you only get one table and can not bring any in. Have heard that it is pretty good. Guess need to try it it is close. Have heard different things that kids clothes and books sell well there, and we certainly have plenty of that stuff. But this market is dead in the summer months.  ::)

Trial and error for the new kids on the block.

Movieman has great advice and knows his market well, ie. customers what sells ect.

Also the $3 shipping and handling fee has saved this new to ebay seller on common noobie mistakes.

Easy Craig like good auction good contacts are trade secrets.  ;)

But like you always looking for that sale. Went to Tractor Supply to add to the farm and bought some chicks (and they weren't for free  :D ).  The cashier said enjoy your babies I said I will and I have baby bunnies for sale. Told her where we will be on Sat.

Disclaimer; This is only my opinion – Nothing Said should be taken as what should be done in this particular situation = ;o)

So, I basically give all the religious stuff away – I don’t see any reason for making a quick buck off of that stuff.

Must of had a turbulent previous life.
