The Treasure Chest / Re: This really sucks!

My Gma's Kirby fom like 1940 still runs like a champ.  Awesome!
That's a good model.

Think in another thread I mentioned an auction that there was a Kirby up font and everyone was all excited.
Went for like $300ish if I remember right.  Guy (a newbie) was strutting around, talking sh*t about how we all lost out.
I had to burst his bubble and tell him I have two of that model and they sell for about $50-$75 on ebay.
I literally can't give them away.  My friends mom owns a vacuum sales and repair shop and offered to give the to her.....she said no.

FYI- I get bags off ebay.  Think last time was 10 bags for like $15 with shipping.

I've had some dates that thought I was an Ephemera.....    :-[

Let me see.....I think he might have *just* made it as 'on topic'.  It did start with a guy getting a ticket while at an auction.  ???

So lets try to save this.

Anyone ever get a Parking Ticket while in an auction?   Or get towed?

Does your auctions have parking or do you street park?

Who else puts vanillia extract in the egg dip for French toast?

Most everybody I've ever dealt with off CL has been pretty decent. Most are on time or within a few minutes of being so.

Same here.   It's just those few bad ones you remember.

Same here.  15 minutes and I'm gone.

I was raised with he military mentality of "if you show up right on time, your late"

I'm always early.   If you call 15min after scheduled time and say your 15 away that means I'm sitting there for 45 minutes.   Negotiations are out.  Your paying asking price.

Craigslist / Re: Using Craigslist services section for labor

I was suprised.   I thought they would milk it but they were trying to get done as fast as possible.

Also, they didnt include drive time in that 3hrs.  You got 3hrs of WORK.

or miliage under 10 miles.   After 10 miles it was only like $0.50/mile

And they took anything not wanted so saved a trip to dump.

I would but CL might have a problem with it.  Your not suppose to list the same item in different categories.  You might be flagged.

If you do I would list with different subject lines and switch up info and pictures.  Probably wouldnt add phone number in text, or any easily searchable identifiers, that would pull up both ads together during search.

I don't think I have enough time. Ya'll got huge head start. Maybe if I start useless threads?

Anyone else use CL to lure victims to remote areas?

Finally! CL has man-4-tranny section in casual encounters.

Something like that.......

I didn't know about the Gigs thing.

A friend of mine is a freelance writer.  He does a lot of technical writing. Picks up assignments at newspaper that staffers don't want.

But between gigs he picks up a lot of work off CL.  It never pays well but its a night or two of his time to organize their thoughts or polish up speech, paper or script.

I mostly just grabbed the physical labor.  Some pay well, some you get into job and realize you got screwed.
I've tried a few times for people looking for autobody but every time what they want to pay wouldn't even cover cost of supplies.

I had a few shady experience's and one scary one.   I've had plenty of upset, mean, over-the-top rude or shouting people but one guy actually was (low level) physical.

He got out of his car yelling about how long it took him to get there.  Then that item wasnt as described (which it was).  Then he wanted to pay $20 for it instead of the $50 and I wouldnt go below $40.

He was in my face.  Then started pushing me saying "if you know what's good for you you'll come down to $20".   I reached towards my back to get pepper spray and he must have thought I was going for a gun or something cause all of a sudden he said "f**k it!  I don't have time for this!"  And hopped in his car and left.

That's when I started meeting in VERY public spaces.  Preferably where people are mingling or siting, not just walking by.

I think that's when it works bet, when someone has a skill or an ample supply of something.

Not thru CL but I trade autobody work and details all the time. Autobody &  Detailing is one of those things that your not not really paying me for my time.  Your paying for my knowledge and my tool set and chemicals.

But more towards what Rules said, I bartered show tickets all the time for way less values items.  I worked at the venue.  Part of my compensation was free tickets to every event for friends/family or business. Meant for networking.  You know, give he owner of a resturant tickets then when we need a catering job with only 24 hours notice he is more willing.
I couldn't, by contract, sell them but trading them was one of those grey areas.  Owner would say we couldn't <wink, wink>.
By doors open if no one was using them I'd trade (some shows up to $500 value) for just about anything.
I gave four tickets to Daft Punk to a guy for bringing me some Burger King......
