The Treasure Chest / Re: What Are these Worth?
« on: February 19, 2011, 09:47:43 AM »
The picture is not good, hard to see what magazines they are.
Also it is hard to see the quality on them.

The value is based on quality and popularity.
Some old magazines are worth 100's of dollars, other are only worth the face value of the magazine.

Ebay and other selling channels is a good way to find basic values of things, but do not use Ebay as the only way of setting the value.
Contact stores that sell old books and magazines, the normally can tell you the value.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Question about a check
« on: February 18, 2011, 08:58:28 PM »
Nope.

Unless you want to spend 3 years behind bars.

However, i have found tons of giftcards, the other day i found a 25 dollar giftcard to Red Lobster, it had not been used, so i went there and had a nice dinner with my wife. This was in a locker i paid 20 bucks for.

Giftcards are ok
Cash is better.

Checks are NO NO NO

I did the same today. I run 4 units up today, it is so fun to see the dumbasses falling for it (hook line and sinker)
One i bid up to 400 (this was a 200 unit)  and one up to 550 ( this was maybe a 275 unit)

Then we went to location number 2, here i helped out and run a 40 dollar unit up to 200. And a 100 dollar unit up to 210.

I hope their wallet hurts tonight, and that reality comes knocking tomorrow when they dig thru their ****.

I wish you newbies a happy trip to the dump, and a lot of overtime work the next month to get your money back.

other things in there was.

One brand new pair of Levi 501XX jeans
6 boxes of brand new cufflinks + tie (set) in different colors'
4 pair of brand new shoes in original boxes (reebok, Polo, +++)
24 cd's ( 8 new ones still wrapped in plastic
Some baskets, that will sell for 5 bucks a pice

Have not had time to go thru it all yet.
There is still two big rubber maid bins left to go thru.

I won a unit today, paid 55 bucks for it.
It was a GREAT unit, and i am getting closer and closer to finding a gun.

Couple of weeks ago i found a 12 rounds magasine.

Today i found 9mm bullets in box.
I found a bullet proof vest
I found a belt with holster for 9mm gun and holster for pepperspray and holster for handcuffs.

Everything in very good condition.

Here is my add for it on craigslist.

Well i am a mirror, the way you treat me, is the way i treat you.

When he started to curse me and saying all kinds of F words in the book, guess what i will be doing tomorrow if he shows up. I will be telling all the old timers exactly what was said and how he is, and they will be aware of it. So he will get alot of units dumped on him. Trust me it will happend.

I will make sure he is a financial disaster when i am done with him.

The following comes to mind:

"Nothing ventured, nothing gained"
"Bigger is better" (I don't believe that...marketing pros been selling this idea for years)

A little off for this topic, but "racial" or "demographic" profiling comes into play from a size standpoint too. If you have had bad luck with lockers from any particular ethnic group, if you buy a larger locker from them you will simply end up with more trash to haul away.

AMEN to that.
Been there and done that.

I now try to stay away from certain lockers. lol

I talked to a guy today who is a newbie, he won a couple of lockers last week, and everyone i know thought he overpaid by a lot.

One unit he paid 675 for and the other he paid 800 for.
Well after talking with him today he was in deep ****. He had spent all his money and taken out 300 dollars on a CC.
His problem is as following.

He has no one to pick it up for him, he only has a 4 door sedan, he has nowhere to put it, and have been told by the storage places that he will be charged 1 month rent at both places. He asked me if i wanted to buy his units for his original winning bids, something i said no to. In one week those lockers are picked.

On top of this he asked me if i could have my guy's picking it up and drive it to his moms place in Alabama, it is like a 4 hours drive one way. He is broke and can not pay for it.
So i said no, well then he went on to say that i was working against newbies and i was making their life harder. So i told him it was not my job to babysit him, he went into this on his own, now he has to get out of it on his own. This pissed him off i think, then he said he was gonna show up on ever auctions and bid every "old timer up" He was gonna make it hard for everyone in the business.

I tell you, this is the newbies in a nutshell, they get burned and then they blame it on everyone else.

My best units with ROI in mind is 5x5 and 5x10.
10X20 have so far been the worst ones.

This is also very commen among other storage locker buyers here in Memphis,TN.
Infact we had a talk about this topic last week, and we all agreed that 5x10 is the best.

Had my first yard sale / garage sale of 2011 today, i hvae to say it went pretty good.
Put two ads out on craigslist, had about 4 people showing up, and sold for 203 dollars.

Today i just sold leftovers, everything for $1.00

Tomorrow i continues, so maybe i can get alot more sold.
Have about 850-900 more $1.00 items for sale.

$203.00 dollars today will go towards the auction coming up on tuesday. Hopefully this will bring me two new lockers.

I advertise all my items ast tested or not tested.

If the by an item from me that are tested, then thats no problem.
On the other hand if they buy something i have advertised as "not tested" and sold as is, i do not give a refund or anything like that.

I never sell anything without knowing the condition, if i have to then it is "as is" "not tested"

But normally i test everything before i send them out.
