General Storage Auction Talk / Used Postcards, Ticket Stubs, Etc..
« on: December 28, 2013, 01:52:54 AM »
I was looking up where a person lived from a locker I bought, because they had some post cards addressed to them that they saved..

I had eBay up on my other monitor, and I decided to type in "Grand Cayman Postcard" and selected Used, sold listings.

And they apparently sell for a few dollars... Same with used concert tickets and events tickets..

I never thought to even look those up, normally just toss that stuff out.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #5...May, 2013

Bought a locker on Thursday. Paid $300.. had a lot of boxes which was home decor and clothes upon clothes. Had a Directv HD DVR cardboard box in it. The top corner was bulged up just a bit and I caught a remote in the box, nobody else noticed, or knew enough to see it. In fact, most kidded that the DVR was "in the box!" .. Turns out it was in the box along with 2 standard receivers. That's my $300 on Amazon right there. The rest is profit.. Although it'll sell at $2 here and $3 there..

You better call directv to make sure money is not owed on them and they can be transferred to a new owner, if they are not it's just scrap metal. I never bid on any DirecTV stuff I see, must of it is un-usable.

I sold on amazon without knowing first and it costed me more when I had to refund it and eat the shipping cost.

"2012 Florida statue 316.0083"

A notice of violation and a traffic citation may not be issued for failure to stop at a red light if the driver is making a right-hand turn in a careful and prudent manner at an intersection where right-hand turns are permissible. "

I wonder how many people got tickets and paid when they thought they were in the wrong, when they weren't :P

Ignorance works in both directions.

No one lives their life to a letter of the law, no one.. Period.

Let's get real here, hey "Bob What are you in for?", I killed 50 people, and you "I used a USPS box for something it wasn't intended for"

When you put metal on the curb for the sanitation company to pick up and some scrapper rolls by in their pick up and takes it. (That's Illegal)

When you buy something on ebay or amazon, and you don't pay sales tax on the item, regardless of the state. (That's illegal)

When you sell something on Craigslist, Garage Sales, Flea Market, Ebay and don't report the profit as income (That's Illegal)

When you "Dumpster" dive for boxes and supplies (That's Illegal)

Let's not get on some moral ground of what's legal or not. It's just called a "Loophole" in the system.

You here politicians talking about closing loopholes etc.  When you close a loophole, all they do is make it so it's harder to abuse without a penalty and enforce it (if it's worth the $$ enforcing).

Did you know if you get a ticket for going 1- 14 mph over the speed limit, the judge normally frowns upon that? That's why most tickets are written for people going 15 mph or over. (Unless it's a school zone - they become a little stricter their)

Also, to the person that buys the plastic label holders, just walk into fedex, you can get those for free, no need to spend money on it.

Also get yourself an industrial shredder, I got one from a locker, I bought it just for the shredder. Anyway, as we all know their's plenty of papers you can shred in just about every locker to last a long time. If not, just shred all the advertisement mail and newspaper you get.

Like I said, I don't condone anything illegal.  I just recognize it as fact and that people do it. You do whatever makes you feel morally special inside.  But the original posted wanted to know why shipping kills him and and not others and I answered that question.

Shipping...

Here's the deal with that..

1) You need to learn the tricks of USPS...

  • I.E. Shoving small boxes into a flat rate evelope, so it ships at 4.90

2) Order Flat Rate Boxes from USPS - They are free

3) Get an account with FEDEX or UPS with Discounts on it (Join some existing association that has discounts.) How do you know what associations exists, research my friend.

  • I get 74% off Fedex Express
  • I get a flat 30% off all fedex ground, regardless of wieght
  • Associations don't have $$ amount requirements, if you get a rep and ship a lot, they will give you discounts, but you need to maintain a certain volume
  • With assocation discounts, sometimes it cheaper to ship ground instead of home delivery just do the match and add the surchage to ground. Fedex doesn't give good discounts to home delivery.
  • Do automatic billing with fedex with an AMEX card that has 5% off Fedex charges
  • Use the Free USPS Flat Rate boxes and ship that out fedex, Fedex don't care - a box is a box to them.

Shipping makes and breaks people, study it learn it, love it.  So you can compete on a level playing field. I don't endorse some of the above, but if you can't beat em join em. You need to eat too.

eBay / Re: WOW, PowerSeller Discounts Really Add Up!!!
« on: September 21, 2012, 03:48:54 PM »
So on 9/20, I became a Bronze PowerSeller and Top Rated seller, just like the ebay support person said.

9/20 - 9/21 - I sold 8 things... (Things that I been re-listing for months) - 2 of these items were over $200

I wonder if it has anything to do the upgrade or if it's because I put in the 14 day return policy, or the moon just aligned right today.

So I just re-listed a bunch more items, I haven't been able to sell for 6 months that I gave up on. We'll see.

I just met the requirements for PowerSeller and Top Rated Seller.

So I called "Ebay" and they told me they only update status on the "20th" of every month, and I have to wait till the 20th to receive my new status. which is 20 days away.

Then I said, I was really looking for the extra benefits, he said once account you're upgraded, then the discounts won't kick in until the next billing cycle, so basically I have to wait like 50 days, before I can enjoy the benefits,  that I earned last week.

Shot Glasses are a tough Sell on Ebay, sometimes you might get a $1 each for them (if you have a lot/collection).

At garage sales, I sell them the non-desired ones for .25 cents each.. just to get rid of them. Normally people who own/work a thrift store will come take them all at that price.

New to Storage Auctions? / High End Funiture
« on: July 12, 2012, 01:36:10 PM »
What's the best place to sell high end furniture?

Let's say you got a designer cabinet worth 15,000.  You can't really list that on Craigslist for 7500 and expect someone to buy it.  Where else can you move it..

Consignment? Anyone type of furniture dealer that will buy it outright?

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Selling Direct TV equipment
« on: July 11, 2012, 03:14:26 PM »
95% of all Direct TV parts end up as scrap.

You can sell the dish, no restrictions on that (A lot of people will buy just the dish, because one person will pay for the TV package, and then give another person a box from their package)

Say MOM pays $80 a month for Directv. Then the son, buys a dish, and installs it and asks mom to rent another box at $7. So now mom pays $87 and the Son pays $0 for his TV package.  Or if the son is nice he'll pay half the total bill.

When you get a box you can call Direct TV and see if it's a lease, if it's leased, it's just scrap or parts at that point.

Most of the time, people owe money to Direct TV, and that receiver will never be able to be used until they clear the account it was attached to even if the person owned it.

The remotes, you can sell. They are common, you won't get much for them $0 to $5 each, depending on the model.  You'll get more for the batteries, on some occasions,  if they are still good.

You can sell them on ebay, I have in the past..

All you need to do is say, you are buying a "collectable sealed cigar case" The cigars are not for consumption and were not keep under climate control"

To a professional cigar smoker, the cigars are probably not worth the money since the tempeture wasn't controlled properly.  But people on ebay still like to bid a lot for them.

I seen some people even go are far as saying, "You are bidding on the collectable cigar band" that is attached to the cigar.
