I averaged $2,000-$2,500 every Saturday at my garage sales so I must have been doing something right. Perhaps you should give it a try, you might be pleasantly surprised with what other people will buy and how much money you make.

I can see it now...."Garage Sale Wars !"  Watch this week as Texans compete against Floridians to see who can sell the most crap for the most money. Bonus !  Who will sell the ashes of somebody else's ex-husband, and how much will grandma's teeth in a glass bring?

So when an auction is sold, anything above what is owed to the storage facility goes to the tenant in default? I'm new to all this is why I ask.

Yes, unless something crooked happens and someone else keeps it.

Moviemean, I agree with what you say, but I also disagree.

Agree that trinkets and **** can sell, but I'd honestly love to know how you can resell half used laundry soap or used toothbrushes! LOL

The area, at least in my area does have it's ****ty areas where you'd be better off buying a lottery ticket then the locker, but those are usually the storage facilities that border Detroit.  I'll still go to them when I can though, they are good for laughs and the occasional cheap pickup.

Whoa...I think you have me confused with someone else who posted here...this is my first post in this thread!

I haven't read TCLane's post, but maybe you were referring to his thoughts?  I sell partial bottles of perfume, but it has to be a high-end brand.  I keep partial boxes of laundry soap and dishwasher soap for myself...saves some bucks!

eBay / Re: Ebay Classifieds
« on: September 21, 2011, 08:10:46 AM »
I have about six items on there now and haven't had any response. On the other hand one of the same items on Clist just sold.

Not convinced it's a "player" at this point, but I did have that one  BIG sale some months ago and THAT was great.

eBay / Re: How to start up?
« on: September 21, 2011, 08:08:33 AM »
Two thoughts:

1) Wouldn't eBay (or eBay forums) be the place to find out about this?

2) Over the last 8 years, I couldn't find a reason to open an eBay store. Didn't seem cost effective to me.

Things going slowly on Craigslist right now...seems to run in cycles for me at least.

I just sold this item off Clist for $75...came from the safe locker in this thread.

Saturday the 24th the storage facility has its "yard sale"....going to do that instead of my regular Saturday flea in hopes to get rid of some of the big stuff.

I thought it would be fun to change the little phrases under your screen names of your posts. The ones that say newbie, jr. member, hero member etc..

Any ideas?

Here's a suggestion for those members who post above 500 times.....

Posts here in the forum because locker prices are too high and needs something to do !   ;)

Stripedcomic...

As Drew said, looks like you might be ready. I posed the questions I did because I have seem some remarkable things on this forum.

Check out the two posts by THIS New Yorker.

Also, using the member list look up a poster using the name "momonamission"; mission not accomplished.

Then there was TreasureHawk and another poster whose name I have forgotten who both got a bargain deal on office furniture, got it sold (or given away) one way or the other and were never heard from again.

I could list more, but those are the ones who come to mind right away.

Of course there's nothing wrong with bailing out of an endeavor if it doesn't suit one in one way or the other, but I see a lot of enthusiasm in these forums which later turns to dust.

I think the expression "failure is not an option" shouldn't be used by new auction buyers; it is ALWAYS an option.

Do you also have:

Vehicle in which to load the stuff.

Map to the dump.

Cash for gasoline for load and dump runs.

Place to put the stuff before it gets sold.

Time to do all the work....sorting, dumping, selling.

and....

solid work ethic.

Without using there flashlight?? And dont take 2 good looks at the unit?? I have noticed people bidding on units without tUSING there  lights and with out 2 good looks. Might as well use a blindfold. I call this blind bidding.. This is serious bussiness when you are spending money you worked for so why foolishy throw your money away. Get on your knees, rubber neck that unit look at every detail. So it cost you a few bucks to replace those batteries so what use that light. Say this to your self 10x. I WILL USE THAT FLASHLIGHT on every unit. Dont care what anyone says pictures of a unit that you see cannot give justice to what you can see live. Brighten that unit up so it can been seen from space.lol. But serious use that flashlight you might just see something worth buying.

And see the following two threads:

Following thread is about flashlights people use:

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Houston Noobie

How can I get a list of all the auctions in my area?

Well, you could use the search button above...it's the third one from the left and is labled "search".  That would be a good start.

Just type in "Houston Storage Auctions" (without the quotes) and tap the "enter" key. Stand back. Read.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Bed Bugs ???
« on: September 18, 2011, 10:47:17 PM »
They can actually survive up to a year with no food. Then they just crawl into the next storage unit.

OR, there is this.....

Life Cycle

Female bed bugs lay from one to twelve eggs per day, and the eggs are deposited on rough surfaces or in crack and crevices. The eggs are coated with a sticky substance so they adhere to the substrate. Eggs hatch in 6 to 17 days, and nymphs can immediately begin to feed. They require a blood meal in order to molt. Bed bugs reach maturity after five molts. Developmental time (egg to adult) is affected by temperature and takes about 21 days at 86° F to 120 days at 65° F. The nymphal period is greatly prolonged when food is scarce. Nymphs and adults can live for several months without food. The adult's lifespan may encompass 12-18 months. Three or more generations can occur each year.
