General Storage Auction Talk / Re: bought another locker today...

That last picture of the statue is a dime a dozen. Even so though I have never seen a Retail Store that sells them for less than $80.

The other one looks like it could be a pipe or a tray for burning incense. Not 100% sure since I cant see it in person.

Question for anyone really into sportscardss and the whole scene. When I was a kid sports cards were HUGE mainly baseball but all sports I suppose. We used to spend all our money on cards were more into cards than video games or anything. Used to go to conventions to collect and sell as well as get autographs.

Are kids today still into cards? I'm mid 20's so not that old but it seems to me like I was the last generation really into cards eeither that or I juts dont know what kids are into these days but it seems to me they are more into computers, phones, video games and justin bieber and all that crap.

Why the drop in sports card prices and memorbilia? You always hear people say they produced too many cards in the '90s and I do agree with that but how does that explain autograph values decining, memorbilia decining and evne older card values declining before hte mass cards were produced?

Is it the economy? Less disposable income to spend on stuff? Is it too much stuff was produced? Or just lack of interest? Curious what others have to say?

I use to collect them. But kids now a days, they want that instant gratification. Collecting of anything is rare with kids, unless you consider a mass collection of video games or movies to be a collection.

I think its a large variety of things that made cards decrease in value. Now you have ebay and other similiar places selling all kinds of collections for near to nothing. I think this is one of the major reasons. Before you would have a smaller netowrk to get that one of a kinds baseball card or simiilar collections. Now you can be in touch with just about everyone. This really hurts the collection side of things. As far as the people that try to make a living off of it that is.

well if the first picture you have here is what the unit looked liked during the bidding process, I wouldnt have paid more than $250 for it. Maybe $350 if I was feeling like gambling.

Very nice, I am so jealous, lol. Beats any of the units I have gotten thus far. How much did you pay for the locker and how much to have teh safe cracker open it for you?

Have you decided whether or not you keeping this safe or selling it?

So if I rent a Uhaul it still won't be cost effective than owning a vehicle?

You could rent a uhaul, but I wouldnt rent one till you get a unit, and only then if the unit is big enough. Still have to factor in how are you going to get to the auction to begin with.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Getting attached to items
« on: August 28, 2011, 09:13:07 PM »
Thats the thing. I hardly ever buy expensive items like that. I either just wait for the holidays or deal without. But yeah I see where your commin from jrossjr. I kept I think 15 dvds the game system and pocket recorder. Just things ive wanted for a while. Gave my dad a full set of nice plates and a couple smaller things as payment for helping as was his idea. So for 30 dollars the things kept were nothing compared to the profit I can still make

lol, well then your far ahead, and not need worry about profit losses.

This will be my first of hopefully many post here. I am sort of a noob... I did a few auctions back when i was in college in the 90's. But have recently started getting back into them. It is a much different world now then it was then.
Initially I was using Auction Zip, but found that way too many people are showing up usually between 50-100. Which makes for high bids and long lines in Florida heat. I did end up buying 1 unit for $175 2 weeks ago w/ some misc furniture that I sold relatively quickly on cl for $415. Not a bad deal for first time back in the game.
My better units came this last Wednesday when I found an auction through the public notices. 5 lkrs and only 6 bidders. None of the bids went over $100. I got 2...one for $50 and one for $60. I probably could have won all 5, but a) I did not want to be "that guy" and b.) I knew I would not be able to clean everything out in 24hrs.
In the $60.00 unit, I ended up with a like new Lane cedar chest with tag still on it as well as  bunch of dvds, xbox 360 games and a brand new video game chair.
In the $50.00 unit, I really cleaned up. I got some furniture that I have already sold for $150, A Nintendo Wii still in the box, an Xbox, bunch of dvds, race track, bunch of clothes, some small jewelery items, 2 tvs, misc household goods, etc.
Most unusual find in these units was a box full of bibles (plural) and a bunch of porn dvds... seems like an odd pairing for one box.  :D

Welcome to the forums, and welcome back to the industry.
