General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Where have "all" the posters gone ?
« on: February 07, 2014, 05:29:00 PM »
I've been responding here and there where I feel like I can add a value statement. Truth be told, I've been busy building a website for a high end client. Finally done with the meat of that. The auctions here have been duds. Seems like people are more careful about what they put into their storage since the shows. Another way the shows have killed this business.

For some reason, I've been on a streak of finding food in my lockers.. Sugar, flour, coffee, rice..

What's it Worth?? / Re: Military Surplus

I find that most unusual military items sell well, and for a good price at the flea market locally.

eBay / Re: How long should an eBay auction run?
« on: February 04, 2014, 01:45:55 PM »
I got a surplus of old magazines which I cut the ads out of and listed some of them (50 or so) on Ebay as a buy it now option. Always listed 30 days. I do auctions as well for most of my other items, which are mainly collectibles. if I start the auction on a Monday or Tuesday, I list for 5 days so that it ends on Sat./Sun. If I list on Sat./Sun. I run for 7 days..

I always list auction with buy it now option when they give away those 7 bazillion listings free for 3 days.

The Lounge / Re: What did you think of the game?
« on: February 03, 2014, 01:06:02 PM »
The game was a comedy of errors from the first snap. I tried to watch the whole thing, but towards the end it just became silly.

Those big hits are getting harder and harder to find as people are more cautious about what they're putting into storage and potentially losing.. The majority of the success in this business is through elbow grease both before and after the purchase.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Anyone seeing ST ads on this site?
« on: February 03, 2014, 01:01:02 PM »
I have not seen ST ads.

I don't flaunt it, but I don't go out of my way to hide it either.

I have an easy 5-6 papers that I can check. I only keep tabs on 3 each month.

eBay / Re: Another Reason To Use Firefox for eBay
« on: January 30, 2014, 02:36:52 PM »
I haven't used IE in 5 years. IE is such a drag on the computer. I switched to Firefox and now I'm using Chrome without any issues.

My best guess is that it is a "test" listing..

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Good things come to those who wait
« on: January 27, 2014, 02:13:17 PM »
I've noticed that the whales are staying away from the auctionzip advertised sales. I don't mind auctionzip sales because the newbies spend their money so fast just to get a locker under their belt. Just bide my time and wait for a good one to come up later in the auction and pop for a really good price, just as you did.

Around here, I would venture to guess that most carry $500-$1,000. I hear of some people bringing $4k, up to $12-$15k. Many of the heavy hitters only do auctions where they accept credit cards, which is not many.. but Public Storage is the biggie around here that takes cards.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Pickers' Sources...order of precedence
« on: January 27, 2014, 11:34:58 AM »
I like scouting out moving sales. These people are on their way out and either can't fit their stuff in the truck or just plain don't want to take it. Good opportunity to buy cheap AND give my card to clean out after the sale. I always buy some stuff to put my best foot forward. Typically, if I don't buy anything, they don't call me back to pick up.

Nice score on that game table! You've got plenty of room to restore if you can do it yourself!
