Talked to another auction associate who WAS at this big auction.
HE said there were 80 to 100 there at the peak times and it did go as low as 30 bidders at times (it was a long day).

He talked to one San Francisco Bay area buyer who got three lkrs there and was moaning and groaning about all the 800 mile round trips he would be making to clean them out. This was from a REGULAR buyer who apparently had a lapse of reality in his thinking when bidding (or even going) to this auction.

Then there was the buyer who paid $3K for one locker and proceeded to pay it off with $20 bills. Another rocket scientist in action. The auctioneer said the stack of $20s was about 5 inches thick.

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Went to two auctions by the same auctioneer. First one had 16 bidders and 3 lkrs. Didn't bid on one of them, but several people did including the 6 regulars who were part of the 16 bidders.

One relative newbie got all three 10 x 10s which were down hallways, pedestrian size doors (not 10 x 10 doors).
Prices: $275, $400, $675; so the guy spent $1350 for 3 lkrs. Some potential for breaking even....in my opinion.

Anyway, that kept him away from the 2nd auction (either out of money or space and time) where there were 2 lkrs.
First went for $90 to a newbie; 2nd went for $240 to regulars....3 feet high of tumbled down stuff with a couple of good items showing; he'll make a little on it ..... after the dump run(s).

So, not a great day, but more auctions coming the next couple of days.

*****

Talked to the auctioneer (best/most honest of the 4 major auctioneers) who indicated that in the 150 mile radius he covered, he was seeing FEWER lkrs up for sale and crowds moderating.

It turns out that even though the crowds are going down a bit (in some areas) there are fewer units BECAUSE THE TV SHOWS are making it apparent to lkr owners that THEIR STUFF WILL BE SOLD if they don't pay up.

So...according to this auctioneer (with whom I agree)....it's a double whammy from the tv shows.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: all cash sale but what about deposit?
« on: July 13, 2011, 10:39:19 AM »
How much are the deposits in your areas?  I went to an auction the other day and expected to need a deposit but I thought $100 seemed a bit steep.  I know you get it back but you have to figure that in from the beginning.

IN MY OPINION.....

One needs to have a hundred set aside for a deposit. That deposit typically (IN MY AREA) will cover you whether you buy 1, 2, 3, etc lkrs. That always seemed funny to me, but a lot of them do it that way (IN MY AREA).

Frankly, if a hundred dollars is a stumbling block (not leaving you much to buy with), you probably will be out of luck anyway as getting a good lkr (IN MY OPINION) is going to cost you $100 at least and a really good one is going to go for more than that ($300 to $1000 or more).

At this time with a lot of new people (newbies) buying lkrs, the property managers have to protect themselves from people who just want to come in ...take the good stuff... and leave the crap behind. Can't blame them for that.

The $100 deposit has always hurt the buyer who isn't well-funded to start...that's just the way it is. If this is a problem, start saving $10 to $20 a month for some months and then just put that $100 aside as deposit money.

  Hi Movieman
If You Google Storage Hunters You can watch the previous episodes  on TruTv.com  , plus You Tube has some .
There are a lot of comments about the old & new show in online boards , I like the ones defending the show by the poster LoriMarie.  ::)
  Bob

Thanks for the tip, but I actually think I would be more interested in the comments than I would the show !   ;D

My provider doesn't carry TruTV (Tru ?) so nope, I haven't seen it.

I watched the FS episode on YouTube though. BAD.

Will read your comments and those who respond. Can't imagine much of any thing good being said.  ;D

The Treasure Chest / Re: The Best Buy I've Seen
« on: July 11, 2011, 09:41:38 PM »
In about an hour, he popped into the office to say he had found two worm-drive skill saws that were brand new, and that he was confident he had made his money back right there.

Sounds like a good unit all right. How long ago was that?

I realize this was in Hawaii where you said prices are higher, and the reason I ask is this:

Two years ago at a California flea market I could get $75 for a very good, used worm-drive saw; now I have trouble even selling one and when I do, it's $40 or so. Construction here is next to nothing. Exisiting houses aren't selling, why build a new one?

Anyway, curious as to how long ago that unit was purchased that 2 Skilsaws would pay for it.

I live near Sacramento, and I am hoping to buy my first locker within a year.

First, welcome to the forum fellow Californian !

Now, as to the quote above; you're going to have to have the patience of Jobe to NOT buy a lkr before a year has gone buy !

I believe in gathering info too, but with a couple of months of info from the forum and maybe a couple of months of going to auctions, you should be ready to buy by September, 2011, not July, 2012 ...but that's just my opinion.  ;D

Talked to one of the auctioneer associates this last weekend about this big auction.

He wasn't there but said the total "take" from selling the 100+ lkrs was around $40,000 and that the place was out in the middle of nowhere. If it had been 300 miles closer I would have gone !

Person who did well there was the auctioneer....fee of roughly $10K for that 8 hours work.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: One step closer to the edge...
« on: July 11, 2011, 12:21:16 PM »
Good luck !

Sounds like you have one foot in the air (over the edge). Putting that foot down and bringing the other one forward will be exciting and hopefully rewarding.

At least it's not like stepping off a real cliff's edge !

What's it Worth?? / Re: quarter fed slot machine by Mills
« on: July 10, 2011, 11:02:31 PM »
Never mind...I did it for you.

Type Mills Slot Machine in Google and get multiple results including a historical page or two.

Type Mills Slot Machine in eBay search and you'll see a great range of machines and prices.

Price will depend of course on date, model, rarity, condition. Some going in $1500 range (asking price).

Thinking its from the 1950's... tried 18 times to post it... no luck

 The slot machine works.

The 19th posting time worked too.

Now, what is the story on it. You got it in a locker?

Have you researched it anywhere?

You're giving it to some deserving former lkr owner?

None of the above?

Ronin knows something.....LOL. Alas we will find out, Shouldnt be too tuff. Just make a few phone calls. Hey inquiring minds need to know. And because you guys are doing it all in a full secrecy makes us just want to find out more. Surely somene will talk!!!  A bidder, an auctioneer, a storage facility worker, LOL

The challenge is on. Makes some calls and lets find out.

My guess is that Ronin was one of the many people at more than one TX location who signed a non-disclosure statement (under penalty of death !) and so we will have to depend on bits and pieces from this pt forward.

My MAIN interest is in the running of MULTIPLE shows at one time, and now that we have this "tidbit" about a possible FALL, 2011 debut of SW-Dallas, I'm beginning to think that once the July 20 SW shows are done, that the NEW DAllas shows (and later Florida shows) will begin. I just can't fathom that they might dilute their own schedule by running two shows at the same time, but again, I could be wrong.

3133
#1 yes i do. it is also being filmed in FL. at the same time. did you know that?

Yes, or at least I had heard it was being done in FL.

#2 CANT SAY!!!!!!! WONT SAY!!!!!!

Even the CIA admits to some things.

#3 IS BEING DONE BY A & E

hats off most people don't know what my name is

Most people don't bill themselves as 'movieman'

You are getting confused. The Storage Wars Dallas is a NEW show, it has nothing to do with July 20th. All I can say is when they got to American Harbor Storage in Oak Cliff, bidders signed a release for Storage Wars Dallas and the Camera crew from A&E was there. They were all told it was Storage Was Dallas. A new show. I Called American Harbor and they confirmed that it was filmed there. Not of the California Actors will be on the new show. They are an all new cast.
Hope this clears it up for all of you!

I admit I was confused, but with each additional post you place it becomes a little clearer. So NOW it appears the California franchise was so popular they are going with the NEW series based in Dallas, and if what I read in the OTHER thread about Storage Wars, the new member RONIN says  the new one will start in the Fall. Waiting to hear where he got this info only because I like verified facts.

3135
why do you guys need to know so much about storage wars dallas? you will find out everything you need to know in about 3 months. the show is going to air this fall.

"No good deed goes unpunished."

"Don't worry you have nothing to fear from me."

Anyway, though curiousity might kill the occasional cat we generally survive and it's curiosity that drives some of us.
So, here are my questions of the samurai.

1) Do you KNOW it's called Storage Wars Dallas?
2) How do you KNOW this?
3) Is it associated with the Storage Wars produced by A&E, or is it being done by someone else?

I have done a few Google searches and can find nothing but the regular crew from last season's A&E show, so any info you feel like sharing, please do so (or not).
