One fellow I know has given up selling at the flea even...nothing but buying single items and putting them on eBay.
Since he doesn't buy a single auction unit he doesn't have to spend time or effort on getting rid of all the household, etc.

Think we are heading that way too.   ::)

Tough spot. Have a life long friend (she is better off $$ than me) we have only once swapped money. Why we are still friends.  ;D

Would sell the car for what you are comfortable with.

Does he have anything of value to trade for the difference in cash?

Just a thought to keep it honest. Sounds like he needs to grow up a little, and with that means paying up when you F up. We have all done it and paid the consequences.

Made my son give me his truck for money he owed me. I sold it got my money back and he did not lose his licence get tickets and continue down the path he was on. Been doing great ever sense.

My .02
Good luck with it.

Flea Markets / Re: flea market rantings ravings and perhaps a tip or 2

Another line I get tired of hearing:

"I saw that advertised new at less than your asking."

My respose: "Did you buy it?"  Invariably their answer is no.

Sounds Like my husband.   LOL

Thanks Movieman and Cobia needed that after our weekend.

And then you have people like the lady looking for a cake server and knife for a wedding asked if we had one and we did not, told her I had looked around and did not see any, but I was not looking for that.
She came back by and said look what I got for $3 a wedding server and knife set (we would have sold it for $2) Then she said I gave her a $5 Tip  :o

Liandra Sorry to here you had it as bad as us. Glad you were not charged for your space.  ;)
must have been the treat of bad weather ??? Who knows.

The market we were in had plenty of vendors, people setting up on ground tabled units sold out. but not enough shoppers. Found a CL rant of someone saying the place stunk.

Glad your booth is being so profitable. Called one and they are still at $2 a sq' + 10% Smallest space is a 10X10 not ready to bight off that much of a bill yet.  :o

We are going to try and hit one everyone talks about tomorrow. Another day.  ;D

You go Rockin. Glad you are turning and burning.

We did have a response on a Cl listing. Will see.

All the vendors had a rough day today. Not sure why. Think we will just have a yard sale in our yard next weekend. We usually make a killing.

Wished we could have gone to our spot in front of the thrift, but still no go there.  :(

Glad you have not had to hit the mad money from the tax man.  ;D

Hope something turns our direction for the few auctions we have also start on Wednesday.

The Place we are going on Monday all the vendors who go say it is really good.  Fingers crossed.

Stores / Re: Anyone Actually Own a Store?
« on: March 02, 2012, 04:53:37 AM »
Here's some unsolicited advice......DON'T DO IT!!!!

Also, don't forget, you are also going to be competing with Goodwill, Salvation Army, Value Village, etc, who get their inventory for free from donations, and a large number of auction buyers who saw the shows and decided it would be a great idea to open a store too.   After all, look at Brandi and Jarrod......yeah, look at them.......when the shows started, they were struggling bad......would they still be around if it wasn't for the show money and all the publicity?  I wonder.........

Yes a lot of work.... Forgot on the Goodwill and Salvation army stores get free labor from the community service people.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Silverware
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:33:46 PM »
Silverware in general

sold baby spoons faster than anything else. Little old ladies bought them to eat their ice cream. Said it makes it last longer. LOL

Sold odds and ends pieces in a box full. Finally broke down and matched them up taped together and priced as matching. Sold a few then a guy came and bought them all, he makes stuff out of them.

have a box of kitchen knives, cheep cheep crap. Everybody stops and looks. did sell one for a .25 guy going to cut up his sod.

Not quite sure how we'll make out on it, as the boxes were mostly women's clothes (high-end, but XXL) and clothes just don't move at our local flea.

All sounds fair. The last ones sounds like it will be good.

Quoted you above on the clothes check out ebay for them. The lager ones are easier to sell. Fellow auction buyer sold men's XXX dress pants for $25 each on ebay. I found a lady on CL under things wanted, buying the larger sizes. (I did not have enough for her though)

Love the slippers. We have snoopy flashing drinking glasses, want loose the adult beverage in the dark.  ;)

Stores / Re: Anyone Actually Own a Store?

Well the thrift that sells for us. Is doing pretty well she is paying the bills and making money. (Our stuff is moving slowly though).

She does manly Consignment she gets donations too. She wanted to attend the Auctions with us but after watching her work 7 days a week with no employee's, she does not have the money or man power to pull it off. 99% of her inventory is consignment. She was in competition with another thrift, it has just closed down.

We have kicked the idea around also. Would like to do it and think we would do well but as Alias said need more money in the bank.

The biggest problem is getting the inventory and running the store. When you add an employee you add headaches. Payroll, taxes, WC insurance, ect.

It is a full time job just attending the auctions, loading, sorting~~~~~on and on.  ;)
