Movieman,

That was my first post and first auction.
Here is the link...

I think it feels wrong, as well.

Wayne

Thanks Wayne for providing the link. I knew I'd read about that approach before...and it STILL feels out of whack!

Jose....

Someone else wrote about  the same type of silent auction...where they just collect your bid and call you later if you won.

I did a search on sealed bid and silent bid but couldn't locate the article.

This wouldn't work for me!  Too many opportunties for things NOT going our way.

Welcome to the forum!

There are about a half-dozen Texans on here, three of whom post regularly. I'm sure you'll receive a Texas welcome from them.  ;D

Here's the link to a 3 frame color cartoon strip which pits a dog against Storage Wars.

If you are a dog lover AND a Storage Wars fan this is doubly funny!  ;D

There is also a social comment on pawn shops on this date, May 9, 2011.

You can use the arrow back and forward just above the cartoon strip to look at other days.

These links will OPEN A NEW TAB in your browser.

The boys strike it rich....what a surprise !

This episode shows John Cardoza who is an auctioneer in central California. See what he had to say about the show at this link:

http://storageauctionforums.com/index.php?topic=1141.0

Meanwhile, here's a brief rundown on the goodies. They got 2 out of 3 (as usual).

First lkr had a nice wood/glass scale (like the scales of justice)....it was on its side and they couldn't figure out what is was until they found a box with the actual scale pans. There was a gold sluicing device too.

Lkr #2....what a coincidence....they find gold, silver and another tool for finding gold.

These boys know how to stage a locker !

Anyway, he said today at the auction that the episode in which he sells to Allen and Ton will be on in about a month..that would put it maybe mid June.

Tuesday, May 17, 2011...

The episode described by Cardoza is running tonight (mid May, not mid June)

The Lounge / Re: Unemployed
« on: May 17, 2011, 04:28:15 PM »
Jose....

You're not unemployed...you're a full-time auction buyer !

That will help you out while you look for other work, or it may just become your new career.

May all your lkr purchases be good ones!

Superman found !

This is in a thread here on the forum....there's a link to the media story inside that thread.

Here's the thread on the forum:

DustyPub was the original poster; putting the link here for renewed exposure.

Anyway, I have around 148 different facilities. These are including 4 facilities that are not in my area but are south of my area about 30 - 45 mins.

Thanks for the update on the number of facilities. I use Microsoft Access for my database of facilities and just looked at it after reading your post. It goes back 7 years to when I started and the main list is 251 facilities. These go out in a 50 mile radius.

The reality is that most of the time I don't go further than 30 miles, and that is only a couple of times a year with most of my buys happening within 15 miles.

I could easily get the total facility numbers up to 500 by going out to a 90 mile radius, but since I would NEVER drive that far at $4.00 plus a gallon and currently HIGH lkr prices, there is no point in doing that. In fact when gas was ONLY $2.50 a gallon I didn't make those long trips, so it's more a matter of distance and lack of interest that keeps me closer to home.

Thanks too for the further discussion of the differences between the two cities (San Antonio and Houston). Made for interesting reading. I actually lived in Dallas for a year, but it's been so long I don't even have impressions of it anymore !

3325
This was an interesting read and thank you for it.

Your spreadsheet should give you an accurate count as to HOW MANY facilities you have in the San Antonio area.

I was especially interested in your thoughts on how the two cities (San Antonio/Houston) vary in financial economics, cultures and the way the historical values are viewed.

Anyway, there's no doubt in my mind that while there are similarities in our businesses throughout the country, there are bound to be regional differences which might make a world of difference in the way our businesses are conducted.

Flea Markets / Re: Flea Market Full Today, No Spaces Available
« on: May 14, 2011, 06:05:49 PM »
That's why I reserve.

One long time seller takes a month off a couple of times a year to go to either asia or europe on vacation and for buying stock. He PAYS FOR THE MONTH he is gone even though he won't be there to sell. Such is the price of wanting to keep your spot year round. The flea sells the space to daily users and thus gets double payment for that space !

3327
OK, spoon-feeding future readers....added text to #1, #2 etc so reader can decide if he actually wants to read the article based on its content.

Now GETTING THE READER TO RESPOND...that's a different story. Remember 9% of forum members contribute to content and the rest just read it.

3328
I also notice nobody else h as really looked at these either.

Take a look at the view counts again. Maybe they aren't replying, but some have looked. Several of the threads have at least one comment.

I'll post a note with contents on the next batch I post. When you get right down to it, 99% of the stories are going to come from the internet. If the story was in a newspaper or on a tv show, it will be represented on the net, thus the internet addresses. No one is going to go out and buy the Chicago Daily-News to read the article when they are sitting at the breakfast table in Houston.

And, you could also look at the internet #1, internet #2 as you would the many boxes we get in a locker...each is a surprise until you open it !  ;D

Sounds like Kentucky is still in the midst of locker fever. At least you got some exposure to
more units and bidding....that will serve you well as the months go along.
