General Storage Auction Talk / Fortune Cookies for Auction Buyers
« on: February 09, 2011, 05:10:04 AM »
I'll start it and I expect 900 contributions from 900 new members by the end of the month.

"You will find used diapers today. Wear gloves."

"Your fortune awaits you."

"Don't bid against Dave."

"Help! Trapped inside a 5x5 at Polk and Lex in Chicago."

"Free listings at this (deleted) web address"

Get the idea ?

Wow, 10 votes in the first 12 hours of the posting...it's some kind of record....NOT.
With over 900 members in these threads you would think even the new buyers (or wanna-be buyers) would at LEAST have an opinion about a show that got them started down this road.

Maybe RFR needs to offer some more free listings to the next 10 voters who ALSO are able to make a comment in this thread about the show. How about it RFR?

I haven't seen one.  They've all been cars needing restoring, or they've been total junkers.

3934
I've seen it happen, but I hear more often than not it doesn't have a happy ending.
One big buyer has had 3 partners in about 6 years....I guess 2 years on average isn't bad though. One of HIS former partners complained that the fellow I'm talking about didn't do ANY of the lifting !

I'd like to have Dave's money, Barry's car, and Jarrods wife!  LOL.  I like Darrel the best though.

Sounds good to me. Dave doesn't seem too popular !

4 twenty-dollar bills may not be unique, but they would buy some groceries or gas or  ?

I got a bunch of DVD's, just listing those as a lot.

I had a bunch of nice womens clothes recently. Did one round piece by piece most of the good stuff sold, selling whats left as a lot.

That's often my strategy, piece by piece on ebay what doesn't go after a week long auction all gets tossed into a "lot" auction.

Yep, I saw your single item sales (under completed items) and now the by the lot. You go guy!

We could all use and extra "oops" locker like that !  ;D

Keep the votes coming !

3941
Hooray...people are actually voting. Be nice if the 900 in the silent majority would vote...even if they haven't been to an auction they could say how far they would drive !

The answer is:

1) by the piece
2) by the lot

based on:

It depends

Rules are rules, but then again there's "common sense" and leaning into a locker can hardly be seen as going into it...IMHO.  Next there will be "rules" against bringing a small step stool to get a little altitude to look in the back. Wait a minute there Mr. Auction Buyer....who said you could shine a flashlight into that space? Turn that damn thing off !

I know this show is edited for the drama, and the four characters are probably encouraged to maintain a "type". Since I have recognized these "types" in my own area auctions, it certainly is easy to relate to.

Personally, I think Dave is a pest...I mean really...the CONSISTENT bidding up of the other buyers is to the extrme.
I like Barry...he isn't mean spirited at all and has a moderate approach to his buying.
Darrel seems reasonable enough...some of his finds REALLY seem staged by the show producers.
Jarred seems like a regular guy trying to make a living. His wife is not the total shrew she could be, and I have seen couples like this over the years.

3945
We all know you can't go in a locker when the door goes up, but one auctioneer practically goes ballistic when your toes lap over the doorway opening !  Have you seen this and if so has there been any crowd reaction to the auctioneer's over-reaction?

I have also seen auctioneers (or the property manager) get bent out of shape when you lean over (at the waist) and the top part of your body bends into the locker. Is it just me, or does this kind of reaction seem out of line? Personally, I think these types are reaching out with their "power" to show how much control they have!
