General Storage Auction Talk / When do YOU cut your losses?
« on: March 21, 2017, 06:41:24 PM »
I used to believe that everything would eventually sell, given enough time, if it's priced correctly. I  came across a great deal about 4 months ago. It was four identical oak king size headboards with posts and two twin size oak kids beds. Paid $20 for the lot. Finally sold the kids beds for $30. I have the headboards priced ridiculously cheap. Had several calls, but no bites yet. These things take up a pretty good amount of space in my storage shed so I really want them gone. Even considered giving them away to free up space. Anyone else had hard to sell items? If so, when do you cut your losses?

I've been out of the game for the past year or so and I cut the cable over a year ago, so I haven't been watching reality TV. Are there any new shows out? Are any of the original shows still producing new episodes? What shows are still airing re-runs?

eBay / Re: Ebay Valet - Total Waste of Time
« on: February 21, 2017, 10:00:42 AM »
This experience just wont seem to end. Had to call eBay valet because several items were not returned. After investigating the missing items, eBay informs me that 3 items were damaged when they received them. Two of the items were antique 18" pewter statues valued at about $700 +/-.

The other item was an Asian urn. I was never able to determine the value of the urn, but I do recall that the tenant asked the storage facility manager to call me to see if she could get this urn back. The woman wasn't Asian, the urn was filled with candy and there was over 2 grand in silver found in the unit, yet she only asked for the urn back? Didn't make sense to me either. Who knows, maybe it's worth something.

Back to the eBay Valet fiasco. During the phone call with customer service, they informed me that eBay valet would be determining the value of the items and issuing payment via PayPal this week. This is the first thing they've done right so far. Now, being an optimistic cynic (yes, that's possible) I assume I'm going to get a payment for $58 and spend months going back and forth with them trying to get a fair value for the items. We'll just wait and see.

eBay / Ebay Valet - Total Waste of Time
« on: February 02, 2017, 11:20:56 AM »
I recently tried Ebay Valet service and was deeply disappointed. Despite the ridiculously high fees to list your items for you, I was willing to give it a shot. I sent them 2 huge moving boxes with 14 items valued between $40 and $300. You can ship your items to them for free and they provide free return shipping for items that don't sell, which is nice, so you really have nothing to lose.

At first glance, I thought this was a really good way for people who don't have a lot of free time to list their wares online. Then I read the fine print. No fragile items, only items valued over $40, used items must be in perfect condition, etc.

So, after waiting 6 months, I contacted customer service again and they told me that none of the items had sold. I told them to send the items back and I received them back about a month later. I checked my inventory and 4 of the most valuable items were missing.

Long story made short, it was a gigantic waste of time. Anyone had an experience with Ebay Valet?

Picker's Paradise / Re: Shopping for a Living

I've thought about it but it seems like a lot of time could be wasted by coming up empty-handed.

Same could be said about in-person storage auctions. Wasn't Movieman a shopper/picker?

First new post since January 8, 2016 and it's from a Canadian looking to push his product !

Yep, and s/he was gone in 60 seconds. S/he was obviously looking for free links. I don't mind people posting links as long as they're relevant and not offensive.

I can't argue with that. On Feb 24, I get another one running horizontally on the left side of my neck. Just call me Frank...short for Frankenstein.

Storage Facilities / Re: staging units.
« on: January 15, 2017, 09:05:00 AM »
In my opinion, it shouldn’t be of any problem as the entire storage facility is rightfully theirs anyway. Hence, it is considered their territory and rights to perform any selling provided that those items on sale are not illegal. It is a similar process to that of a storage unit auction, only that the items on sale are theirs.

In some cases, but in the U.S, most of the time the unit remains the property of the tenant up until the auctioneer says sold, otherwise the tenant couldn't pay his debt minutes before the auction and redeem his property.

I don't necessary like the idea of the storage operator staging the unit with all of the good stuff in the front, but most lien laws require them to take some form of inventory for their legal notice, so legally they have the right to look through the unit.

Buyer FAQs / Re: Can I sell my large eBay inventory on this forum?
« on: January 15, 2017, 08:34:01 AM »
Yes, you can sell your eBay inventory (as long as it's not inappropriate or illegal) through the auction feature on the main site, but it would have to be in bulk, not piecemeal. And make sure to remove anything that isn't for sale before you take photos so their is no confusion to the buyer.

General Storage Auction Talk / Online Auction Delivery Service
« on: January 15, 2017, 08:05:07 AM »
Hey all, got a question for you. Lets say you bought a unit online that was several hundred miles away, would you consider using a delivery company that worked with us? What do you think the pros and cons would be?

2) even though your previous two posts about this slipped through the cracks, sheriff ALLORO will strike with an iron fist any day now.

Or we just remove all of the links, email and phone numbers....it's just as much fun.  ;)
