Other Forms of Selling / Re: Has anyone had experience with Worthpoint?
« on: February 15, 2014, 11:25:33 AM »
Thanks for that link Fred !  Your example and the greater than 3 month window on Worthpoint makes sense for those kind of items.

Should I ever get deeper in items of that type of item I think you're right that WP might in fact be "worth" it.

your quite welcome by the way this is the type of knowledge im picking up on that thrifting with the boys page i recomended

It might be worth it to you depending on your volume and what you are selling movieman . If your selling a lot and doing collectibles clothing and decorative items it might very well be worth the investment

If your selling common items tools machinery etc it might not

this person mentioned this item on a forum and said without worthpoint  they wouldnt have had a clue to price it this high

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Life-Savers-Sweet-Story-Vintage-Gift-Package-8-Sealed-Rolls-1940s-Unused-Candy-/191071268195?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c7cbc2d63&nma=true&si=xhwtD9BK%252FzV4nIOtsXiojA0LZF4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

im not sure what they would have gotten for it without worthpoint but im thinking the extra$ paid for 2 or 3 months of the worthpoint service(they took 92.50 for it about 10 minutes after they listed it)

evidently on uncommon items the trick is not what its sold for recently but rather whats the highest its sold for and for that you may need to dig farther back than the 3 months ebay gives you access too

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Getting the most out of your dump runs
« on: February 08, 2014, 05:39:51 PM »
i used to do a lot of craigslist free adds

the dump runs i made id try and balance large stuff couches and mattresses and stuff with small heavy things like books and records to make their half ton minimum , but then ive was doing this out of a short boxed van a bigger vehicle and i wouldnt need to worry about such things

55
things i found repeatedly were porn and george foreman grills

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Where have "all" the posters gone ?
« on: February 07, 2014, 05:06:54 PM »
If interest in storage auctions is slowing, why would we be looking for other ways to make money? Wouldn't it be time to get back into it since there will be fewer people in attendance?

it really depends Travis
ill wind up back at the auctions and will be a buyer again, but it will be because i miss going through peoples stuff more than i want the money and the work involved
with the various forms of picking im doing i run across less trash , have more free time and am not forced to sell things i dont want to be bothered with
I havent been clipped in the head with a bedframe that some asshat left on top of the mattresses against the wall.I havent wound up with couches with rat pee on them or opening boxes to find loads of mousecrap. I havent made a dump run in 2 years. And im generall more cheerful and making close to the same money I was with the auctions while putting in a bit more time but a lot less effort
next step from the picking for me is looking for things i can list once and sell over and over again instead of having to list everything individually on ebay and craigslist

i bought the locker back in 2008 or so and paid around 100 , it wasnt a great locker but it was decent and if i recall correctly i got 500 -600 out of it
it was 3 people storing their stuff together and one of them worked at the united nations
she had a box of M&Ms
a tiffany trinket box marked united nations (only went for around $45 on ebay i was a bit dissapointed)
and what reminded me of it was this which i found today cleaning up

I think all of the facilities in long island got together and decided all the best rooms about 2 years ago ...

Public Storage - I've seen them go in order and I've had the manager say we are going straight to the best room so everyone has enough money to bid (facility run auction)

Extra Space - goes in order - (auctioneer)

Mom and Pops - Usually goes to the best one first, although they usually plant items, stage/create rooms ..etc. so their best is actually usually the first (facility run)

I havent been out in a while but most of the stuff ive seen here is they start at the bottom floor and move up or at the top floor and move down , ive mostly been to stuff in nassau and queens
