Ok - that makes a little more sense.  A 10x10 here is $12.  So for the 360 sq' you get I'd be paying 43.20 for the same type of square feet.  NY has a higher cost of living then south also.

I bet we all were thinking 10x10 spots when you said $75.

Put plenty of signs / ballons out for your yard sale and you may be surprised.  My wife's uncle lived at the end of a dirt road a mile from the backroad to get there.  He put up signs by the main hwy, at the end of the dirt road, etc.  He would do pretty well many days.

At least you have the comforts of home and if it's a nice day you can do other stuff outside if you don't get many customers.  Good luck.

I have 2 more things with bids on ebay and meeting on the luggage today.  If he don't buy it already have another lady interested.  Is sometimes funny how CL works.

The Lounge / Re: Money over friendship?
« on: March 05, 2012, 09:11:04 AM »
Myself - it would really depend on the friendship.  Is this a friend that I can call in the middle of the night to come pick me up.  Or that will come over and help me move something heavy.  All without a complain or compensation.  Or is this one of the friends that always needs something from me but is always busy when I need the help.

If it's the first one I'd work out a sale/trade.  His wrecked car (worth scrap metal) + whatever + money for some figure you come up with.  If it's the later type of friend I'd not sell him the car.

I agree with Money - your friend may need to grow up some before he gets another car.

Ya - I wish I had the time and resources to shop the various thrift stores and goodwill/salvation army stores in my area.  I'm lucky that I have a full time job and 2 active kids.  So I don't have the time to visit and research.  I hit goodwill up every now and then but that place is pretty dry anymore.  Working to network with the other auction people in my area now to buy their busted computers and such electronics.

Flea Markets / Re: flea market rantings ravings and perhaps a tip or 2

I must be lucky as I have maybe only 1 or 2 customers try to really lowball me on items.  Most people just buy my stuff as is.  Only a few will "haggle" the price at all.  Of those many times I'll give them a buck or two off depending what it is just for asking.

I do have one lady I'll run out of my stall if she shows up again.  Is a oriental lady that tries to do major lowballing on you.  She is also a thief.  Visitied my stall one weekend 3 times trying to get a $10 jacket for $1.  She then grabs up 6 of my $.25 items and tries to buy them for $.50.  Sold her the 6 for a buck - however, I'm 99% sure she picked up a few other items from the basket and tossed them in her bag when she grabbed her purchase.  My daughter came up to me after and said same thing.  Since was only $.25 items I didn't worry about it but will run her off in the future.

Sounds like it is still hit or miss out there.  I was upset last month as I knew I would miss the first Saturday of this month due to my girls ice skate competetion.  Turned out it was windy, rain / t-storms all Saturday so didn't miss much.  Sunday was very windy and mid 50s so I skipped going and worked on the sheds.

Sold 1 hd on ebay for $50 ($33 profit after mail/fees)

Doing a trade with buddy for my glass table/4 chairs for a mini-bike I lost to him on last month.  He can make money w/ the table - I should be able to with the mini-bike so is good deal for both of us.

Got a few hits on CL last night also for some luggage I had.  $15 for cheap set of walmart luggage if it sells tuesday.  Not making a ton of money but so far I'm in the black still.  Most of my money has been coming from individual items I've found or scavanaged.  Sitting on a large amount of inventory so have to hit the flea this weekend if the weather will be nice.  So far early forcast is wind and t-storms again this weekend.

Time to hit the scrap yard I think and make $70 - $100 for the trash.  It's amazing what some people toss out.

If that is not for a "store booth" then either you got a typo or some serious inflation, price gouging, or something is going on.  I know Barnyard raised the prices on the vendors at the start of the year.  One day table spots are still the same at $12 for a covered 10x10 spot.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: pods
« on: March 04, 2012, 06:59:55 AM »
You can pay to have it delivered.  I think you end up renting it for a month also in order for that to be done.  IMO it isn't worth it.  Most pod auctions go for $1k and higher.

Not bad prices there Cheesehead.  The 1st unit would of gone for close to $100 or more in my area cuz of the kids guitar.  Don't know why people go nuts over them.

Second unit for $145 is a decent buy IMO.  Has a good chance to make a profit on it.

This yahoo article made me think of you MovieMan.  Guy made $10,000 on eBay by doing the same things MovieMan and I'm sure others of us here do.  Looking for cheap items to re-sell on ebay.

Well just checked the paper and have the same number of auctions as we normally do.  However, the # of units at each facility looks to be lower.  Suspect some people may of paid up with tax money.  If get the normal 50-70% paid up this month will be very sparse.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Silverware
« on: March 01, 2012, 11:29:13 AM »
Silverware is a finicky sale.  At the local flea sets of forks will sell very quickly.  Individual forks will go for a quarter each most days.  The small spoons, knives, and such are very much up in the air.

If you have a complete set that will make it easier to sell.  Do a quick search on replacement.com and ebay for the specific set/style to get as much info as you can.

I put my stuff I had found up on ebay but it didn't sell.  Have not tried again yet.  I split my listings out by type, so forks in one, spoons, etc.  May try it as a complete set next time.

I will say polishing it up would make it sell better at the flea and think ebay IMO.  However, there are so many different buyers on ebay who knows if they would really care or not.  One may, but the other three may not.  All up to how much time you have on your hands.  Myself, I'd inventory it all, snap a picture of it on the kitchen table, and list it w/o spending a ton of time on it.  Then if it don't sell can re-visit it.

Stores / Re: Anyone Actually Own a Store?
« on: March 01, 2012, 11:22:27 AM »
I don't have a store since I work full time.  One of the guys that I have become auction-friends with has opened a store.  It is pretty small but he is doing well and is in a great location.  Plus, for him it is right down from his used car lot.  So he can work and keep an eye on both buisnesses.  What questions do you have?  I may have the answer or can find out from him.  I looked into opening a store months ago but discarded my plan.  Did do about a months worth of research however.
