The Treasure Chest / Re: Latest Cool Stuff I've Found in Units!
« on: February 01, 2011, 10:44:48 AM »
Yes, Movieman is correct.  This is stuff from probably six different units.  I just showed some of the cream of the crop here.  Maybe next time, I'll show the trailer loaded and ready to go to the dump!  Or, maybe the dirty mattresses, the dresser with no drawers, or the drawers with no dresser!  Or one of the many broken tools, or potentially valuable items that are missing a bunch of parts!  I do get a lot of good stuff, but I have to dig through a lot of crap just like anybody else!

Pretty consistently actually.  I bought seven the week before last, and I ended up with 5 last week, so there's 12 right there.  I have another auctions Wednesday and Saturday this week for sure, and maybe a few others.  Even with all the extra traffic, it doesn't seem to be a problem to get units.  I go to a lot of auctions, and when the prices are right, I'll pick up 4 or 5 in a day.  I have the infrastructure in place to move the stuff and I've got the means to get it units cleaned out quickly and sorted, and a place to store it.  I'd still like to do more though!

I get what you're saying, and I do get my stuff sold on eBay, it just cost me a percentage (typically 35% of what I have listed).  But, you seem to be averaging four units a month, and I'm trying to do 12-16, so I don't have the time to take care of all the small stuff myself.  I would rather pay somebody to put my stuff on eBay and do the things I enjoy doing like going through the boxes and listing and selling the "big stuff" on Craigslist!

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Another busy month ahead

Crowds are always a factor.  Sometimes the crowd drives the prices up, and sometimes there are deals to be had if you are quick!

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Hunters is FAKE!!!

Sure it's fake, and I like Storage Wars better.  But, it's entertaining and I'll still watch!

I used to love eBay, but very rarely list anything on there myself anymore.  I let somebody else do it and take their cut so I don't have to deal with the headaches!  Worth every penny to me!

Craigslist / Re: Do you sell small dollar items on craigslist?
« on: January 31, 2011, 12:36:36 AM »
As a rule I don't list anything on CL that's less than $50.  It's not worth the time.  Everything else can go on eBay, a garage sale, or to the thrift store.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Most Profitable Sale EVER!
« on: January 30, 2011, 09:15:01 PM »
I actually have a guy that came to my sale that is doing the same exact thing in 2 weeks.  I talked to him at my sale, and he has sold some stuff for me on ebay, and he decided to give it a try.  The cool thing about it is he doesn't have enough stuff to fill it up, so I'm going to be able to take a bunch of my stuff over there too!  Cha-ching!

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Sunday Auction that sucked

In Everett (North of Seattle) there is a facility that EVERYBODY that is there for the auction has to go in the office and put down a $100.00 cash deposit.  They give you a little bidders book (it's a silent auction) and if you win, they will put your $100 toward the cleaning deposit, which you will get back once you empty your unit.  If you don't buy anything, then they call everybody back in the office after the auction and give you your money back.  It does help keep the crowds a little smaller, and you don't get all the kids running around.  If you don't put down the $100 up front, you don't get to look!

About 100 feet from us a property mgr got a hold of her and grabbed her top. She backed out of it and her huge form came running toward us in semi nude state. It was a scary sight. They gradually got her out of there.

Cool!  What could be better than an auction and a free show too!  I hope you brought some popcorn! :D

The Treasure Chest / Re: A dissapointing treasure

Yeah, what a bummer!  I got a locker once with 3k in American Express Travelers checks (6 x $500) and I called AM EX, and they were legitimate numbers, and they were not signed!  Everything was looking pretty good until the lady at the bank noticed that it was missing a couple of the security features.  I was at the bank for an hour and a half while they checked them out and the banker guy was on the phone with American Express.  They turned out to be counterfeit, and AM EX wanted me to file a police report.  I ended up running them through a shredder and then burned them on the burn pile!  Easy come, easy go!

Could they be Hummels?  You need to post up a picture so we have something to go by.  Usually Hummels will have other markings, like "Goebel" or some numbers cast into it, but those are some good German figurines.  Post a pic!
