are you talking about porn? Typically only enjoyed for minutes at a time..   :)

Well, actually I was thinking of things like all the old newspapers "Dave" got on time on the tv show. I think it was about the JFK killing, but I might be wrong.

One piece that I got was for a line of Marklin model trains printed in the early 70s. Got it in a box of such things and sold it on eBay for $20.00.

Another score was a catalog (about 10 pages) for Questron telescopes. Paid 50 cents at a bookstore and sold it for $50 on eBay.

THAT'S ephemera.

I think this topic qualifies as ephemera.  ;D

Nope, that honor goes to "How old do you think Barry is?" which I'm happy to say I didn't start.  ;D

General Storage Auction Talk / What ephemera have you gotten in a locker ?

Ephemera ?  What's that?

Here's your chance to learn something new. Just Google ...define ephemera.

Military items?  Old, new, paper, metal, wood ? It comes in all forms.

What have you gotten and how were the sales?

Good catch! I'm trying to change it, but apparently I'm not able to..

Nope, once a bid has been placed (congrats on the $75 start !) then you can not change the body of the text.

On the other hand you can change the title of this thread !  ;D

By the way....

You spelled it correctly in the title of your eBay listing but not within the text...not critical since the title is what is searched first I think.  It's just the proofreader in me !

Here it doesn't matter in the title of your thread.  ;D

This item brought back memories !

Some years ago I got a locker formerly owned by a nurse. (she had died). It had a nurse Lladro too but in a different configuration. The only thing I really remember about it was that the exposed hand (one not holding something) was broken off at the wrist !

Put it on eBay and I think it still brought $40. There are people who mend them.  Nice bonus for your fixture buy !

I just got a call for a 40 home neighborhood yard sale pickup.. Obviously too much for me to handle!

Think big !  You could double your floor space at the thrift store....add some more slatwall !

You could use the tips here on getting helpers (and a truck) to move stuff.

True, you probably would need a place to store stuff until you could sell it all, but it would mean NOT going to storage auctions where a good quantity of the stuff one is buying is not truly visible...compare that to the yard sale bonanza !

I think you maybe a cyber stalker :)

There are many names for what I do; one of them is "keeper of Travis' integrity".

I just take knowing what the competition is doing to a new level.

The opposite side of the coin really sets me off. Someone places an ad and you send them a message only to NEVER get a response. I'm like WTF, why place an ad if you're not going to respond when someone replies to it?

It's possible they had already sold the item before you called or emailed them and they just hadn't taken the ad off yet.

Even our fearless leader left his 5 (count 'em FIVE) listings for his motorhome on cList after he announced he had sold it here on the forum. OF COURSE...maybe he hadn't collected the money yet and was waiting to take them off (all 5 of them) until he had been paid.

*****

I get calls for items I have taken off within 15 minutes of a sale being made. And I mean these calls are coming two days later. Guess the person printed it out or maybe never refreshed it.  Like I said...cList makes for strange doings sometimes; not everyone is as efficient at buying as we are at selling.

Never saw much use for this, just list it on regular eBay instead.

There is NO CHARGE for listing something on eBay Classifieds.

Issues have been more with people responding to an ad with interest, and then not responding after I respond to them.. Strange, they want it, I respond that I still have it, and they don't respond again.

Yep, people change their minds and sometimes they want it RIGHT NOW  and if you can't meet them because of other obligations...sale goes south.

****

I got a call on Monday from a guy who said he would be in my town on Wednesday about 11 a.m. I told him to call me from about 30 miles out and we would firm up the meeting.

I went to run errands and when I got home he had called at 9 a.m. saying he was at my storage facility waiting for me.

Since I use my home phone for these transactions and I trust people to do what they say they are going to do, it has backfired on me a few times, but I don't use my cell phone that much and I don't want to be tied into having it on all the time and fooling with it. There is always another buyer somewhere down the line.

*****

Another time a guy called frantic to get an item. But when I called him 10 minutes later the call went to a voice mail and I never heard back from him...TEN MINUTES LATER.  Then I called him again about one hour later...he answered and said he had already gotten one though it had cost him $50 more than I was asking for mine.

cList buyers include a bunch of crazies, but the good one outnumber the bad.

Ebay classifieds seems to be popular in my area. Lots of listings, not sure if it's worth my time to put all my listings up there..

Anybody else use Ebay Classifieds? How does it work for you?

I started using it maybe a year ago and I think I got one response from it, and that was from across the country.
It did result in a fantastic sale though. Other than that, I got a couple of emails but they never followed up on the items. I have not listed anything there for maybe a year now....I think people go to cList first and usually find what they want there.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Have you ever lost a storage unit?
« on: September 18, 2013, 12:53:53 PM »
Yes!!! I couldn't remember which unit I bought but after looking for 30 minutes I found my lock on the unit

Uh, I don't know about Utah, but all the auctions I go to in California I have received a receipt when I paid for the locker. It comes from either the auctioneer or the facility....AND...IT HAS THE LOCKER NUMBER ON IT !    ;D

.Beats sitting in Dennys parking lot for 3 hours waiting for a guy who's just 3 miles away every time you talk to him.

That must have been one valuable sale item to wait 3 hours!

I wait 15 minutes max (at my storage facility) and then head home. If they show up they sometimes tell the manager they're "looking for the guy with the gizmo for sale" at which time the manager calls me and I either return (from 1 mile away) or ask to speak to the 'buyer' and tell him to come to a location 6 blocks away from me.

Yes, I have a GOOD storage facility helper team !
